I would trim the bottom star smaller and double up on the sides and then create the top to be a lid. You could still make a deep lid and punching a hole for ribbon so you can hang it from the tree. I could see making a 2 sided star with a photo or sentiment on the other side.

I agree with Brenda... wasn't thought out when she mentioned putting a little gift inside.... makes more sense to use a bigger star and make a top/lid and side so you could open the box...

Love it. Doesn't have to open for me. Great for decorations. Could put beans in it before closing it to make it a paper weight. Such a darling idea. TFS

Makes a cute decoration, but I don't like giving a gift in a box that has to be destroyed to be opened!!
