I remember when the Europa XS first came out about 30+ years ago. I always loved the Europa but when the glider version was produced I wanted one. I remember seeing advertisements for both kits here in the US in Kitplanes Magazine.
Thank you so much for a fascinating video. Unfortunately at 77 a bit late to start. Perhaps heavenly wings for me if I am worthy!! Enjoyed the whole video presentation, thank you.
I had no idea the Europa was still around! I remember a mono-wheel aircraft with a wing designed by the engineer who designed an Airbus wing, one of the most advanced in the industry. Yes, Ivan Shaw designer.
Don Dykins was the engineer for the aerodynamics' head of the design team for the Airbus wing. He came to Europa after retirement. Structural engineering by Barry Mellors from Slingsby Aviation, Europa even used a Slingsby pilot for evaluating the aerobatic potential ( Pete Clark ). It is a special aircraft.
Thanks for the details! Don Dykins has left several documents about the design of Europa's airframe and wing. They are available on the club's web site www.theeuropaclub.org/the-europa/design-and-development-don-dykins-
Wonderful aircraft for people under 185 cm tall.. I’m 194 cm tall and had to stay in the clubhouse when my friend took off from the airport… No way I could fit in there.. if the fuel tank was situated 10 cm further back / or the fiberglass wall behind the seats were thinner, I could fit. But my knees touched the instrument panel and my head touched the roof..
@@coleprescott2154so my question will be how do you cope with airplane restroom , some of them you can maybe enter into but to get out from it when you are average size looks perilous ….
Terrific. I own a 912ULS trigear, about 700 hours by me. Beautiful, fast, cheap to own, insure and maintain. The low Prices are a mystery, the factory is less than perfect but l don’t see it going anywhere soon as it underpins the credibility Swift gains when mixing it with the UK MOD and other funding bodies. The Club is very resourceful. Some odd characters, ex-bank managers, etc, pretending to be engineers, but that gives the group diversity. The crying shame is that the Europa could be developed into a Evo version, fine tuning some of the already highly efficient areas, introducing new materials (using Swifts coupon testing machine to fully characterise the properties). Summary: Glasair (ish) performance for Kitfox costs.
Must be some confusion, probably he bought this one used, or he's quoting the kit + engine cost.... Just the engine alone is around $25k.. aircraft spruce list the kit less engine for $30k... What's a swifts coupon testing machine...?
Really good job on this video! I am a Europa XS mono wheel owner and I love it for all it's unique features and capabilities, but with any homebuilt aircraft the question is always how good is this one? Each are unique reflecting decisions of the builder and his workmanship. As for the risk of the swift group losing interest well it's a business and all aircraft companies are at risk, look even Van's is in trouble and they are the most successful of all kit plane companies. It shouldn't affect the owner so much though parts can be built or sourced from many locations.
Nice video. Great shots. Effort went in and it made it a worthwhile watch to the end. I'll certainly booking at this aricraft as my first 'owned' aircraft. Thanks for sharing.
If this marvellously designed aircraft is well looked after, as I have done for decades, you will seldom need any replacement parts and if you do, some items like cables, plugs and hinges can be obtained from other sources. Only accidental damaged to the structure might dictate complete replacement of a large component, but fibreglass is very repairable and inexpensive if you have the skill and knowledge to do it yourself.
It's got an engine taken from a LADA GT? What IS the engine? Usually that's the first thing to mention regarding aircraft, or the second. I don't see or hear what the engine is and that music makes it impossible to get further into the video. Nice looking Europa, at first glance. A variety of engines are recommended and used for this plane - Subaru with a GRU, Rotax, dunno what else. Prop? Is that an MT? Sorry if all of this is in the video but I just didn't have enough patience. Good luck selling it.
a 2 seater un-certified (in good and bad of course) aircraft that carries 2 people only. I don´t see why a certified aircraft with the ability to carry 4 people at the same price wouldn´t be more attractive.
Of course it would be more attractive, the same way a Mercedes AMG for the price of a Ford focus would be very attractive :) and impossible.... A certified aircraft that carries 4 people can't be the same price... certification will increase the price by a factor of 5x... the larger engine and larger airframe same thing... eg Cessna 172 $400k... And an aircraft with 4 seats that can actually carry 4 people, full fuel and some baggage, due to its again larger engine, will be 5x again more expensive... eg Cessna 182, $700k....
#flight4kids
🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂 expensive !!!!, we have The "Gazaile" here in France that you can build yourself for 15,000€, it flys at 250kms/h with diesel motor and consume 7l/h !

You confused your personal taste with general asthetics: "It's ugly" vs "I don't like how it looks" Also: "Too small" vs "I am to big for it" You would be percieved much less of a Dick if you didn't do that. Of course that might just have been what you went for, in the end it's your choice. Just saying I case you didn't want to be a Dick here on purpose and for anyone who reads this and likes to learn about communication.
it's ugly in comparision to most kitplanes. no doubt about that. I would still buy one because I am older and don't care about looks as much as I did when I was younger.

They're all still available.
Very nicely made, put together video! I think we need more of these😊
Awesome! Thanks for sharing the impressions about this fascinating plane;)

I’m 201 cm and often wonder how much extra I’ll have to spend for a larger plane I can actually drive
Find an experimental category Cozy for sale, the seatback can be moved back.

It's indeed a confusion made on my side. I was talking about used prices only. I don't think Europa kits are for sale anymore.
Hi Olekssi, very nice video. Funny to see myself comming by, I feel honored 😊
Thanks for sharing all your videos about Europa, I'm the one who watched all of them 😆
What a great video. Greeting Hvratski pilot in beautiful Hrvatska, from an English Europa pilot. 😎
Sjajan video i zanimljiv avion. Pozdrav iz Beograda😄

great editing and very informative
I remember Mark Evans building this on A Plane Is Born. Wanted one ever since.
Wow, I didn't know about this show. Thanks for sharing!
I love this video! Well done! Yes, I am interested! Let's talk soon!

Wow, great job!👍
First time I've ever seen a Europa with a ballistic parachute !
Nice presentation🎉
does anyone know anything about the BRS installed? factory setup? does europa now sell kits with the BRS option? thanks
Thanks for sharing
Used price. The FK14 polaris is pretty nice too. Might cost a bit more but not a lot

Did they go out of business?? Website is dead ....
Do you mean Europa Aircraft web site? They had issues recently with their domain or something but now all back online.
I saw that plane at Sinj :))
I didn't expect such an erotic video about a plane

The Gazaile is not the same quality as the Europa. Sorry but it's true!
