Question Tuesday with Miles and the Colonel: Manolo!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 лип 2024
- In which Charlie Plummer (who plays Miles in the Looking for Alaska Hulu adaptation), Denny Love (who plays the Colonel), and John Green (who, a lifetime ago, wrote the book) discuss life, the universe, and everything.
Nobody reads this far into the description but I do want to say a huge thanks to everyone involved in the LFA show for working so hard and caring so much. Also, the most amazing trivia fact: The director of the sixth episode, Megan Griffiths, watched Brotherhood 2.0 back in 2007!

Has an Australian streaming service picked it up? Hulu isn't in Australia but some Hulu originals have been picked up by the Australian streaming service Stan in the past.
I love Denny, I can't wait to see him bring Chip to life!
I loved the book so much. Still my favorite. The best part for me is when he finally has the realization that it's not all about him. It was heart breaking. And I personally think that the meaning to life is to live. Get through the bad stuff to get to the good. And when it's really good is when you are really living. I've had some horrible things happen to me as a kid and Alaska herself really resonated with me when I first read it. I was 15 and dealing with a lot of pain. But the way miles cared to truly understand was mind blowing to my teenage brain. That people could care that much was beautiful.
under 4mins and included others... his got game.
😀
I love how John's eyes get all big when Charlie says the meaning to life is "to learn" and you can almost see him internally go "that's it. That's my next vlogbrothers video theme."
One said to learn, the other said to love. It's like a mind and a heart got together, turned into full people, and collaborated on a video.
@@IceMetalPunk and keanu said the people who loved us will miss us when we die
He definitely has the essence of the character 💗
I saw that as “that is so going to be one of my next character’s defining lines” but yeah I fucking loved that look

He has more what the kids call drip
Johns Eyes: *OH GOD WHAT DOES THAT MEAN*
Yee yee McQueen Technically not a kid but I’m 21 and I’ve *never* heard that term before. What happened to “swag”?
marie wikiwaka I’m all for drip. Sounds dirtier, but way cooler than swag.
He later explained what it meant by using many other words that I didn't know the meaning of. -John
I don't even want to know what the kids mean anymore. Am I old now?
To clarify I (a teen) had no idea what that meant and had the same reaction as John. You know it’s bad when a teen dosent even know teen slang.

Charlie being in the back of all of Denny's shots just, like, photosynthesizing is such a Mood
Geffen Tzaban photosynthesizing that’s perfect I love that

Photosynthesizing. Woah
"He is like Jesus to you.."
"No Jesus is like Jesus to me. He is more like... ( awkward hand movement).. John the Baptist "
I died laughing 🤣🤣🤣
Same 😂😂
I think we all did...
That hand movement is another way of saying "approximately"
This is one of my favorite moments in a John vid.

Omg he is the perfect colonel. His personality is fantastic for the role
My thoughts exactly! He practically *is* the Colonel.
He's just how I imagined the colonel to talk and act!!
Charlie in the background is a moooood
Lol true
Too true!
Hollie Price wtf does that mean
@@Bubdiddly it means it's relatable
Guy who plays the colonel is like my new favorite person. I wonder what john’s feeling was when he saw him. Was it like “that could be him”, or was it like “holy crap it’s him”
Definitely, "Holy crap it's him." -John
I want to see the monologue tape!
I SECOND THIS I LOVE HIM
@@vlogbrothers monologue tape on patreon ?
Haven’t read the book in 6 or 7 years, but I remember The Colonel’s voice and Denny’s is perfection.
John's interactions with young actors remind me so much of dinners with my dad and it warms my heart
Yes John. You are very hip.
I’d say he’s more knee

"The meaning of life is to learn"
Spoken like a true nerdfighter 🖖
i can’t believe this series is happening. i am so excited. this book is so important to so many of us. congrats, john, and thank you. sincerely.
I remember when he did a video like this with Cara for Paper Towns😭 time goes by so fast 🤧
yes
The most Miles-like thing Charlie could possibly do is sit back during the conversation and not really participating in it.
Well done, Charlie
I can’t believe how excited I am for this show.
John's face journey from :21 - :28 is spectacular
Ahh thanks for pointing that out because I was definitely looking at Denny through that bit. John's got such a great face!
I'd say 0:19 but it really is amazing. I watched that bit like 5 times in a row. I'd like a gif XD
@@rubiademoraes look up!
Will someone please make a gif of that and put it on Giphy? It’s perfect.
I know everybody hypes Tfios but my favorit book of yours hands down is Looking for Alaska. I still have it on my night stand to read whenever I am in a really miserable situation
Ohrwein I read it when I was 19 and starting my sophomore year at college. I’m almost 31 now and it still means so so much to me. I even have tabs on pages with passages I found myself wanting to reread constantly
I have 2 copies, a nightstand copy and a handbag copy (because it goes everywhere with me) and they're both almost falling apart. By far my favourite book.
Me too! Everytime I feel depressed, lost or just discouraged from reading anything, I read Looking for Alaska. Helps every time.
Looking for Alaska always has been my favourite as well, I have two paperback and a hardcopy version. Because why not. Love it! Very excited for the show. 😸
Denny got that drip, too. Swagged out in emotional maturity.
The best drip. -John
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THE QUESTION TUESDAY WITH THE CAST. I'M BLESSED!
I think the meaning of life is LOVE. Yes, Colonel.
So wholesome! I also love, "he's more like John the Baptist". 😄
Charlie Plummer gives off Jamie Campbell Bower and Timothée Chalamet vibes
Yunakura oh my god YES
The only difference is that Timmy is socially awkward whereas Charlie isn't.
And the blonde brother from one tree hill
Omg yes, you are the first person aside of me who saw the Jamie Campbell Resemblance, everyone else is like River Phoenix, Young Leo & Chad Michael Murray.
@@thezord6686 he isn't? From what I have seen he is a bit or used to be when younger.
I agree with Manolo, the barn scene is probably the most significant scene in the book
i definitely just googled "john green age", he was not far off!
The room of them look exactly like the ones from the boarding school I went to! The crew did a great job there! Often in boarding school shows the room is way to big, but here it really reflects the truth
Having "drip" must be a Gen Z thing (which is not a bad thing), because I'm a Millennial and I've never heard that slang before.
I'm gen Z (perhaps the older end but still) and have also never heard of it
I’m gen Z, people say that
You grow old, Lucas. You grow old. You shall wear the bottoms of your trousers rolled. :) -John
I’m Gen Z and I have never heard of it
Drip is basically the gen Z version of swag
It’s awesome that the book was also a part of the life of the actors
I love them so much
Hearing about how much the book has meant to Charlie for years makes me so, so happy that he's playing Miles. He doesn't look the way Miles looked in my head but he feels like Miles in so many ways and knowing that he cares about the story as much as many of the readers do means so much more to me than anything else. Obviously screen adaptations can never be the same as the source material but I trust that Charlie (and the rest of the cast/crew) is committed to preserving the spirit and the essence of Miles, and that is deeply comforting.
Edit: aww aww aww I just read the description and hearing that one of the directors watched the original Brotherhood 2.0 only boosts my trust in this project even more.
Ugh. I've got to go back and reread this book before the show comes out.
Do one with Alaska next!!!
Nah, still looking for her
@@OrWhatWeHave lol ded good point
she will remind a mystery
Ugh, the amount of cuteness and talent in this video is overwhelming!
Denny and Charlie are so sweet!!! Wish the best for y'all!!!
Ugh! Right?? It was the CUTEST thing ever! *-*
The foreign language class names are EVERYTHING (from second and sixth-period Spanish class's Elena)!
I was "Paco"... and then I saw there was an old bit of graffiti under our school's stairs that said "Paco Needs a Taco", and I immediately begged the teacher to change it. From then on, I was Diego, and you know what? I like Diego.
I chose “Emilia” before realizing we had an actual Emily in our class. I’m 25 now and still cringe at the memory of the look she gave me. 😬
Most folks in my class just had a French version of their name, but my name is not very easy to French-ify, so I became Lucille I think?! I am still bothered.
"we can never be irreparably broken." is a line I hold very close to my heart. Thank you John Green. ❤️
God this was a laugh, the Keanu Jesus bit I completely creased at that 😂 (John you had better understand what creased is or so help me). But that synchronised "Hank I'll see you on Friday." was just wholesome and lovely.
I don't know what creased is, but I can kind of imagine it through context. -John
vlogbrothers Creased is just a word for laughing hard, kinda like ROFL for some better context. Also I was not expecting a reply so, hi.
Also, just a kinda personal note, my 'meaning of life' answer is 42. Yeah it's hitchhiker's but also a coding joke for a variable that can be set to anything, thus 42 is 'whatever you want it to be'. Not exactly relevant but a nice thought if you didn't know it.
..I was not expecting this to be highlighted..
I'm also not quite sure how to respond so..
Thank you.
@@zacm.2342 Highlighted is just when you've clicked through to a specific comment. It says highlighted because you're looking at it.
1:51 charlie cracking up in the background when denny announces "manolo" has me dead
about that, is it an inside joke or have i missed something?
I was dying too
I can already tell that Denny Love will be perfect as The Colonel.
I saw Charlie on this great movie called The Clovehitch Killer and he blew me away. Such a talented performer.
He's so good in that movie! (And so good in this!) -John
I can tell this is going to be a wonderful cast already!
What a delightful surprise! Makes me want to get Hulu! Nice HGTTG reference in the description, btw:)
I'm so excited to watch this show. I've been waiting for this for SO LONG
The expression of surprise and admiration and awe on John's face when Charlie said his meaning of life was 'to learn' is incredible, as is that statement
Charlie also got John’s depth & humor.
PERFECT MILES💚
john's face at 3:20 ... he thought "holy shit it's me... personified... as someone else?!"
"what's the meaning of life?"
-"to learn"
I swear I've never heard anything more meaningful than this
This show has been so special to me. I read the book years ago in high school and honestly the series really captured everything beyond what someone could hope for. Maybe that was just my personal experience but it wasn't "oh, this makes sense, they could be that character" it was fully "that's alaska, that's miles, that's the colonel." Everything about it felt so authentic it was almost eerie seeing it come to life in such a way.
Charlie voice IS Chad Michael Murray and I'm SHOOKED
Ah such a tingly feeling to see the actors that are going to embody these characters, I still remember where I was when I finished LFA. Charlie is so Miles and gosh, Denny as the Colonel is gonna be a treat. So looking forward to seeing it come to life.
I never read the book or even heard of it. One night I bought a bottle of rosè wine which isn't something I do often. Later I was looking through Hulu and decided to click on a suggestion that I'd seen come up a few times and for some reason looked intriguing - Looking for Alaska. I couldn't stop watching it. I binged the whole thing that night and drank the entire bottle of wine.
I haven't see them in any other works before but I'm excited to watch LFA! They seem so kind. :')
I love that we have these kinds of videos from all of John’s adaptation.
“He’s more like...John the Baptist.” 😂😂😂😂😂
"When did you first read it?"
"I first read the book when I was fifteen."
So, like two years from now?
jk
Ugh, I love this so much. Looking for Alaska was the first John Green book that I read (in... 2014?), and I fell in love with the story, the characters, John's writing, and then vlogbrothers videos after I went on a Google spree looking for more John Green stuff. It's so great that this is finally happening, and John's face when these kids talk about the book, and when John sees real life adaptations of his novel, it's so sweet and makes me tear up. (YAY!!)
I read LFA at a pivotal time for me (long after it came out, circa 2011) and I literally cannot believe that I'll be able to finally see this brilliant book adapted by a cast who seem to care so much about it. Congrats John! (Here's hoping for Katherine's and Turtles adaptations soon. JG deserves all the love)
"Guess low"
"38"
_"You didn't guess _*_that_*_ low!"_
(John is about 6 months older than me)
This is so exciting! Having this book finally given justice is wonderful
"Do you have any favourite last words?"
... WHAT DO YOU KNOW, JOHN?
John, your facial expressions when both Denny said you had drip, (whatever that means) and Charlie said it was unreal that he got to play Miles was just amazing. I appreciate you.
They’re like perfect for their characters and the actors are so lovable and awesome love it! You guys are gonna smash it!
These kids are perfect for their roles, they really remind me of the characters with their responses and everything. I can't wait for this show!
That Bon Iver answer there just shot him up to my favorite lead so far, god I love that song
I loved this! Cn't wait for the mini series.
AHH these two are SO Miles and the Colonel it’s amazing. Wonderful casting and I’m so excited for the show!! I just re-read the book and was reminded why I fell in love with it in the first place
when the series comes out i'm actually gonna cry, that book got me through good times and bad times. definitely my favorite book
John who are some other rappers you like?

My kids would kill me if I didn't say Lil Nas X. I do really like his song! I also like Jay Cole and 21 Savage and Snow tha Product. I listen to a lot of rap, though! I like Awkwafina, Logic, Ces Cru...and a lot of the classics! I made a video about Drake once, for instance! -John
@@vlogbrothers John do you like Frank Ocean? I feel like you would like Frank Ocean he is very sad.
Gonna sign up for a free month trial on Hulu in October to watch! Can't wait!
I read it when I was 19 and starting my sophomore year at college. I’m almost 31 now and it still means so so much to me. Truly a novel for the ages. I’m so hoping the show will have as much impact on our pop culture discussion as tfios did because I genuinely believe it is an important story to share.
I'm so excited for the show! More behind the scenes please!! 😊
How am I going to watch this series?! Even the interviews make me tear up! The casting is excellent!
I was terrified to see this be turned into a movie because I couldn’t see a movie being long enough to have everything that’s so important about this book. A mini series is a perfect way to do it. Very excited, this is going to be beautiful.
This is one of my favorite videos! Sometimes the people who take on casting your amazing characters are so good it almost seems like you imagined these kids into existence they fit their part so well. Both actors are seem so thoughtful and kind. Their answers of love and learning being the meaning of life are the type of responses that I hope my kids will give when they get to be Charlie and Denny’s age.
This show is coming out at around my birthday.. soooooo excited about it!!! It's gonna be super hit !!!
I want to meet who's playing Alaska too!! .. bringing out old childhood memories !! Good luck John Green and cast
That was quite possibly my favorite video ever. I remember reading LFA 6 years ago as a freshman and I would stay up until 3 or 4 in the morning for probably 2 weeks so I could read some more. I have no idea how anyone can read a whole book in a day I think I’m the worlds slowest reader!! John, I love you and everything you’ve done for the world. THANK YOU❤️
OMG Charlie's reaction in the background to Dennys name Manolo was the best part 😂❤️
These guys seem awesome, can't wait to see them in the show!
Thanks for the most amazing trivia fact, John. I'm impressed 😊
They’re all so much like the characters naturally, it shows the casting was genius. ♥️
i'm so hyped for the series!!
I binge watched the entire show in one night.
Looking for Alaska has been my favorite book for years and my copy is beyond worn out.
The show did such an amazing job, and showed everything exactly as I imagined it.
Honestly happy the book didn’t get made into a movie, I think a show fit a lot more.
I’m extremely happy my favorite characters finally came to life, and each actor played them PERFECTLY.
John, thank you for this video. I am excited for this series and I love that you shared the actors with us in this capacity. They embody the characters so well.
So excited about this, and the cast seems so nice and actually involved in this it's good to see that they care this much! That's it, I'm gonna read the book again before the series comes out
