U.S. Military Combination Entrenching Tool, Korean War Type

- In this video we look at a Combinationentrenching tool. This E-tool was designed at the end of World War II September 1945 however production was stopped because the war was over when the US entered the Korean War production began again and this was the type of E-tool carried among the US soldiers during the Korean War it was also used up into early Vietnam.
I just wanted to take a minute and thank you for all the videos you have made. Being a newer collector I have not found a better source. You are so though with all the information you give and deserve far more subs than what you have, Thanks again!!

My grandfather, who was in the Pacific theater during WWII, had one of these. He was also a Master Sergeant in the Alabama National Guard after the war and an Alabama Highway Patrolman - I guess he kept his from the Guard since he was in from the time he left the Army until when all the riots in the 60s started. He was deployed all over the state as a Patrolman during this time. Due to this, he was not able to fulfill his Guard requirements and elected to be discharged (if only he had stayed and retired he might have had something better than SS in the end). The handle has been replaced and the case is long gone, but I've kept it with me all these years and all these moves - literally to the other side of the world. Thanks so much for the information.

My uncle Billy was in the Korean war. He said his preferred weapon for hand to hand was his E tool. He said the fighting was medieval. GI s would use files to sharpen their E tools.

Good video I have one of each of these and had never noticed the spade heads were a different shape, I learn something every time I watch one of your videos, by the way do you know why there are two holes drilled in the later spade head. ??
I was wondering the same thing. Maybe they are tie down points if the carrier gives out.

No it’s not weak at all it’s pretty thick metal
I had one of these in 1968 when I was stationed in Homestead Fla. Had to buy a trailer to live in and had to dig holes to make hurricane tie downs for the trailer. I used that e tool pick to dig 8 1ft deep holes in coral. Worked great and have no idea what happened to that tool over the years, Sure wish I still had it.
Where can I get a replacement handle for one? All I can find’s M43 ones and they’re to small
You might have to make it. I don’t know where to get one , how ever I have a U.S. hatch handle if any body is looking for one. Thanks for your support
