The world is beautiful after you watch this on a Saturday morning.
You cannot take your eyes off of William Bracewell - lyrical, powerful and really goes into the movements fully - stunning !!
I'm reading the new Homans bio, "Mr. B" and came to the part where Dances at a Gathering was discussed (Jerry's triumph during Balanchine's crisis over Suzanne Farrell's marriage) so I had to seek out videos. This is my favorite version of this pas de deux. Bracewell is breathtaking. "Easy, baby, easy!" and this is what Jerry meant. The innovative lifts in this and other dances in this ballet are stunning. No wonder the premiere was met with thunderous applause.
What a delight to watch William Bracewell dancing. No circus. Just moving fluidly with the music. Bravo!
Love William Bracewell's dancing, so elegant.
Hayward, Bracewell and chopin. What a divine combination. Superbly danced, wonderful technicality and all done with such sensitivity and intuition.
What a great piece for a male dancer. I can’t take my eyes off him. It’s like it was made on Bracewell. Absolutely stunning.
There are very few dancers like Bracewell, who make you feel as though they’re improvising the steps on the spot, in response to the music. Suzanne Farrell was another. What a special artist he is, I feel grateful to be able to see his work.
So fluid, so musical. Jerome Robbins knew how to use the classical language to make delightful contemporary dances. And these two captured his soul perfectly. Delightful.
I've watch many Dance Company's and Dancer's from around the World and there is just something about the Royal Ballet and their Dancer's that is just Mesmerizing. The Royal Ballet Dance Technique and the Musicality of the Dancer's are #1 in my book.
There isn't a woman on earth that doesn't dream of a dance like this.
Exquisit! This ballet is a gem, and these two dancers do it more than justice. They have great chemistry here.....He sure is a lovely dancer (strong, musical, graceful and very good looking). Let's hope we get to see more of them soon!
So true. What a dream to be able to dance Robbins to the music of Chopin, sigh... And as you say, Hayward and Bracewell (a Principal in the making?) dance it exquisitely.
Wunderbares Tanzpaar. Zu Chopins Klaviermusik wunderbar einfühlsam interpretiert, der Tanz, wie die Klaviermusik. Danke💐💐💐
God, they're beautiful together. No wonder they also make the perfect Romeo and Juliet.
Wow William!!!!!? What an amazing and beautiful dancer. Absolutely stunning. What a pleasure to watch.
They both danced beautifully but I must admit my eyes focused more on the male dancer. Mainly because William Bracewell was more expressive. He truly was feeling the music and it remained me of what Balanchine famously said about his ballets: "I want the audience to see the music and hear the dancing." That's exactly what Bracewell did. Marvelous.
William Bracewell is amazing. His ability to express grace and gallantry with his perfect movements is outstanding. What a joy to watch him.
Absolutely gorgeous, divine dancing from Francesca and William in superbly musical choreography from Robbins. How wonderful to see the Royal Ballet still dancing this wonderful Ballet as well as the original London cast 50 years ago. Congratulations!
So touching and so beautiful. I did not fully appreciate Robbins' choreography until I saw this. Thank you and Bravo to the amazing Francesca Hayward!
very interesting and innovative way of arriving en pointe in the lunge en pointe poses into arabesque pirouettes en pointe - definitely shows off the beauty of pointe work in a novel way.
Beautiful performance. Elegance personified-compliment each other so well. He has such musicality and fluidity of movement, and she exquisite. A favourite from the Royal.
Not since Fonteyn and Nureyev has a pair been so well matched!
Choreography, just wonderful; dancing sublime; Bracewell's partnering, excellent; Chopin's music, beautiful; piano so sensitively played; all of these together, perfection. Thank you for uploading this lovely PDD!
Edit: For quick reference the music is Chopin's Waltz in B minor, Op. 69, No. 2.
William is so dainty and lyrical. What a lovely duo they make.
Magnifique, quelle légèreté et grâce, très beau duo
I really love the way they dance, but alsof my compliments for the one playing the " piano ". This person too deserves big applaus.
The piano is being played live by the RB Head of Music Rob Clark. In another video of the evening he is brought onstage at the end to take his well-deserved bow.
Wow, gorgeous.
What a lovely excerpt! Dances at a Gathering is one of Robbins' best works. I've seen it numerous times but it is a classic.
It's all been said. Just marvelous !!
Who is this man! His dance is so lyrical and breaktaking at the same time. Francesca is flawlass as always x
William Bracewell is a stand-out in this ballet for me. I have no idea why he isn't a principal. He's so musical, graceful, and epitomises the detail of the English style.
@@jessaglenny Well, they were Romeo and Juliet in the Royal Ballet's film last year, so I guess he's rated pretty highly.
@@jessaglenny Exactly! I wonder why William Bracewell has not appointed as principal yet...I am sure he will be tho, it is only matter of time :)
That film was cast by the filmmakers, not by The Royal Ballet. My guess is that the RB would have cast Matthew Ball as Romeo.
Bracewell!!!!!!
Quelle merveille 🌹🥰
This was the first video of my seeing William Bracewell. I've watched it many times now
and still I'm so impressed with his musicality.
He really embraces the intent of choreography and my eyes just goes to him rather than
beautiful Francesca Hayward.
I love Jerome Robbins.
Really lovely!
Absolutely effortless!
They're such a lovely pair on stage! Stunning.
It was such a disappointment learning that Corrales, who's nowhere near ready to be a principal, was promoted instead of Bracewell. Really a missed opportunity.
I think Corrales was more than ready to be principal; he’s an absolute phenom, and can do things no other dancer in the company can do. I think the whole deal in him coming over from English National Ballet (where he was a principal) was that he’d be promoted as soon as possible; he only took the first soloist position at RB because it’s all they were able to give him initially when he rather hastily left ENB over the controversy w/favoritism and other issues re: Rojo. He was already a star who was in demand all over the world when he came to RB. But they MUST also promote the lovely and wonderful Bracewell ASAP; he’s a gorgeous artist who fulfills a vital role in the company. It’s hard to believe he only reached the soloist rank at Birmingham Ballet.
@@katrinawolfe262 His partnering is questionable and he visibly struggles, but more importantly he still doesn't know how to interpret or handle the characters, and I don't care for dancers who are on stage just to show off.
He surely doesn't have Bracewell's lyricism and maturity, NOR the same repertoire.
@@VanessaBritneyTaylor I respectfully disagree when it comes to Corrales, and suggest you give him more of a chance, but totally agree re: Bracewell. They’re totally different types of dancers, and I don’t really think any other man in the company right now matches Bracewell’s lyricism and musicality. I adore him.
So wonderful to see this on stage at the ROH yesterday afternoon.
So charming and fresh! Thank you!
i am obsessed with the costumes from this ballet. sooo pretty!
This is the best ballet piece I have seen. Mesmerizing. Lovely.
Ma danseuse préférée! Un pur moment de bonheur, un vrai délice pour les yeux; merci ts les deux!
Pure dance ❤
So beautiful! 💛
Saw this when the New York City Ballet visted London and appeared at the ROH was hooked on it from then the Music by Chopin and the Choreography blends so well
Beautiful Job you guys👏👏👏👏
I love this! ♡
Franky!! She's amazing!! 🤩
Excellente harmonie, raffinements et légèreté, 🌹🌹🌹
How sublime!!
The fact that Bracewell isn't a principal is a disgrace. This situation better be resolved this year!!!
Parecem plumas levadas ao sabor do vento. Obrigada pela publicação.
So beautiful
¡Una exquisitez! total!
Wonderful!!
Great rendition!
This was an announcement posted on June 12 by The Royal Opera House of the streaming of "BALANCHINE AND ROBBINS" by The Royal Ballet, which was broadcast live the night before. I bought my ticked to that program and watched it at home. The two dancers you see on this video (Francesca Hayward and William Bracewell) are from a life performance that was released on DVD/blu-ray a few months ago; they are not on this streaming. This new show that took place on June 11 starting at 7:39 PM after the reopening of The Royal Opera House had three ballets: APOLLO (Balanchine), TCHAIKOVSKY PAS DE DEUX (George Balanchine) and DANCES AT A GATHERING (Jerome Robbins).
=========================
APOLLO had the following cast:
Matthew Ball (Apollo)
Melissa Hamilton (Terpsicore)
Claire Calvert (Calliope)
Fumi Kaneko (Polhymnia)
Mariko Sasaki and Amelia Townsend (handmaidens)
Annette Buvoli (Leto)
==================
TCHAIKOVSKY PAS DE DEUX was danced by:
Marianela Núñez and Vadim Muntagirov
================================
DANCES AT A GATHERING had the following cast:
Yasmine Naghdi (Pink)
Mayara Magri (Mauve)
Anna Rose O'Sullivan (Apricot)
Fumi Kaneko (Green)
Romany Pajdak (Blur)
Marcelino Sambé (Brown)
Reece Clark (Purple)
Téo Dubreuil (Green)
James Hay (Brick)
Taisuke Nakao (Blur)
=================
So instead of the two dancers on the video above, this streamed performance shows Mayara Magri and Téo Dubreuil. By the way, this is a magnificent performance (all 3 ballets).
Fascinating, thanks for the information. How were Mayara and Teo in comparison to Francesca and William? I would really love to see them in this dance.
Both couples are great but Francesca Hayward and William Bracewell are special, in my opinion.
Simplemente hermoso. ❤
Muito lindo!🙏❤️💐👏👏👏🇧🇷🖖
Bellisimo Pas de deux
Gracias
Traumhaft! Verführt zum Mittanzen . . .
Exquisite.
GEORGEOUS!!!!!
Обожаю балет.Как талантливой они танцуют!
Sheer beauty.
💜💜💜 I love Frankie!
The male dancer is not supposed to overshadow the female dancer, but Bracewell is an amazing dancer
נהדר
Sublime, ligero , hermosos.
@@Javier-fv4tf Èl le da tanta seguridad que ella solo vuela amo este pas de deux. Saludow cesar javier
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Expression arms and head gestures.
Can anyone tell me what chopin music was played for this pas de deux. OH... Forget my inquiry. I found the answer in these comments: Chopin's Waltz #2 in b minor, Opus 69 😁 THANK YOU !!!
A lovely piece of choreography; but the guy, unusually, really steals the piece.
lifechanging
are the livestreams available in the states? i would love to see these wonderful ballets and performers but alas, i am in california.
Yet it is! I have been purchasing Roya Ballet's streaming since last year and I am from Indonesia. Go and have fun with it :)
Good job, pianist! Trample that waltz! Tread it down!... Oh my Gosh! That was one hell heavy tread instead of music. Chopping instead of Chopin.
Polisch... daję Wam swoje nazwisko. CAŁEJ TRÓJCE... CHOREOGRAFOWI i TAŃCZĄCYM DZIECIAKOM... pokonaliście niebotyczny TRUD... I... Wyszedł Wam "Pan Tadeusz"... Wiem, to hermetyczna recenzja, ale jak moje słowa Wam ktoś przełoży i wytłumaczy... zrozumiecie jej WARTOŚĆ... serdeczność... Sygnuję Andrzej Celmer Zajączkowski from Warsaw
Apagaram meu comentário. Por que??
this pas has peter pan and wendy vibes
Son collant est si moulant qu'il sculpte jusqu'aux détails de sa coquille... Un délice...
I don't like the background it reminds me of an old school textbook. I love the piano and the dancers though
Mask-problems. Her smile is generic, and his letter-box mouth belies the affectation of being one with the music. both really need a lot of coaching [say Stephanie saland,] to get the style truly intimate.
In this and tschi pas...you can really tell they havnt danced in a while
