So Andrew Basha was rated as the #20 prospect and Mews was a middle 2nd round prospect and we got them in the 2nd and 3rd round. Excellent value from top to bottom of the draft. It's as if we have professionals making these pics:) I love Conny and he has a clear view of the future.
The Athletic has an article about how Mews may be the smartest player in the draft. Love seeing that pick up. He's played forward before and moved to D.
The 170th overall could be interesting, was WHL rookie of the week twice. Playing behind some great prospects on the Prince George Cougars. Washington took their top prospect this year and already has two of them in their development, plus the team went to the third round of their playoffs. He could get more ice time if any of the others aged out.
I always believed that you build a championship team from the net out. Looks like Conroy is following that and I like it. Best draft day for the Flames in a long time. Now let's see what Conny has up his sleeve for free agency. Flames have 30 million in cap space. Could be interesting
The more I look at this draft hats off to everyone involved!! No Americans the next three drafts equals no drama ect you wine about the cold weather well what the hell ya doing playing on ICE, play basketball or cricket
Yes, Mews fell a fair amount over time. He was ranked 27th in Central Scouting's mid-term rankings. Calgary went that route a few times this draft. Ahhndrew Basha was ranked 18th and Matvei (Matty?)Gridin was ranked 30th at the mid-term. We got three players who were ranked in the first round less than six months before the draft...not including Zayne Parekh who was ranked 10th at that time.
I watched a lot of college hockey this year and was big on zeev, I like parekh but think zeev wanted to stay in the states? I’m happy with our pick tho considering catton and tij went before 9
Mark Griffith unhinged asf and I am here tf for it lol 💪🏼😅🔥 The only pick I’m somewhat on the fence about is Laing. We traded down with Philly and took Misa at 150 but missed out on Poirier at 156, and wound up “settling” for Laing at 170. Don’t get me wrong, I know we need center prospects, but I was really hoping we’d snag the 50+ goal menace from the Q. As for the last pick Jamieson, his EP player profile says he hits his opponents so hard it sends them flying through the damn air, my kind of dman lol bro put up 32 points and was a +34. All in all, a great draft, potential to go down as one of Calgary’s best ever LET CONNY COOK 💪🏼👨🏼🍳🔥
The thing about Laing was the scouts have been watching him and we're thinking of taking him and Jerome knows him very well and when the name came Jeromes way, he just said "yes, grab him for sure" Can't remember if it was Conny or Button said that and that once Jerome confirmed that they were like "ok we take him for sure"
@@daveobrien6467 it's not that I hate the pick, it's just that I had my heart set on Justin Poirier and knew if we didn't take him earlier that we'd miss out altogether. But we still got a pair of potential stud RW's in Gridin and Battaglia, both bigger than Poirier too. Laing is a big boy at 6'5", and actually has some pretty slick hands and a decent shot. Didn't score too much this past season, but the goals he did get were beauties. We do need center prospects, and he could be a good one. Just imagine he and ole Klapper on the same line lmao 💪😅
@@jasonkh4 Oh I know and apologies if I made it sound like that. It was just nice to hear that they were very familiar and happy with picking him up. I would have really liked to grab Poirier too. We did get Luke Misa though who has some wheels on him. He's also pretty small but liked what I saw from him with the game footage I could find. The kids got some skill. Your right man, that would be a hefty line to say the least.
@@jasonkh4 Exactly, so hopefully Luke ends up turning it on and being a bit of a steal(for use of a better term) I'm looking forward to seeing how the next few days shake out. Wonder what will happen with Kylington actually.
Hey mark, do you think the next offseason move the flames should make is taking in a couple salaray dump contracts and trying to get 1st and 2nd round picks for either 2025 or 2026. If this is going to be a true rebuild, why not try and get some more chances at pulling a franchise player in gavin mckenna or even a top 5 player
Love what Conroy did Home run after home run we need dman we havent had a really good defenceman in a long time since maybe gio but yes love this years drafts hopefully few of our picks turn into gems 💎 ehh
Honestly what’s going to be enjoyable is watching how this draft pans out…. Could this be one of the deepest drafts in history or could it be mediocre at best who really knows…. I do know this and that it’s exciting the potential in this draft

@@daveobrien6467 Luke is also brothers with Michael Misa, who is the early favourite to go 1st overall in next year’s draft.

Pls finish the draft process. After all, you're the Flames Digest 🔥
Will do! I have lots of great things to say! 🔥
What is wrong with HockeyDB? :o
YES, run down the bottom 3 rounds when you get the chance. Some fans consider those lotto tickets, but not me.

Henry is great Mews for Flames future!!
This draft was so much fun to watch. Only gets me even more excited for next year!!!
