      I was thinking this same thing. Isn't the seal supposed to go only over the glass? And then it is compressed between the outside rim and the metal housing. I think he put it around both the glass and the metal housing.

    • @SebastianBalos
      @SebastianBalos  3 роки тому +6

      @@crwells I looked at this again, and you guys are correct. I did slip it over both the glass and the housing. However, 8 months later i don't see leak issues. So id say you might be safe even if you mess it up like i did. Something to keep an eye out for tho!

      Man I did the same exact thing, but mine being an older style clamping system (probably 12 or so individual clamps you run down with a screw) ended up leaking with the seal installed that way. I had my light in and out of the pool 4 times before I finally realized I was just simply installing the seal incorrectly. It sure seams like it should go on that way though! At least you had a few days go by before you reinstalled, I made that same mistake in the same damn day 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

      I did the same as well. PITA when you do it that way. Also mine leaked. The bulbs seemed OK and is supposed to be waterproof. I reinstalled it with the gasket over just the glass and everything with so much easier. You seem like you’d be a fun dude to hang out with and have some beer but not just one CHEERS!

    Just to be helpful. I read the instructions for the led lightbulb and it states, to change color modes turn switch off for a few a few seconds then turn back on to go to next color. Eventually you will cycle to the auto color change mode. 11 solid colors plus 2 unique color shows. I love it. I ordered the 120v since my pool has a 500 watt 120 volt old-school bulb.

    Make sure to turn off the electrical power while working on a pool light. The gasket goes around just the lens, not the stainless steel housing. That's why it was hard for you to get the screw started. I'm sorry to say that the light will eventually get water inside the housing . Testing a pool light out of the water should be done for a short time. The water itself actually keeps the light assembly cool . If you leave it on while out of the pool. It will get very hot and blow the lens.

    Nice Video! For Reference, When you pull the fixture out of the Niche, there will be stickers on the fixture that tell you what voltage your lamp is. I wish you had shown the struggle getting the fixture back into the niche. I am still having trouble with it. There is a little tab that is supposed to hook on the bottom of the niche so that when you tighten the screw it pulls firm against the side of the pool. I'll be back in the water again to try and get it right.

      I've had a few of these at this point and I find that the "switching" feature tends to fail over the course of a year. If you need the switching then it will last a year or 2. if you can live with the switching feature in a failed state, as in, stuck on one color then you can get several years out of it. At the end of the day it's a cheap light but I will continue to purchase it.

      Id say that the key to this is to figure out what voltage your pool light is. Its either 120vac. Or 12vac. Id say the 12vac is more common and safer to deal with. Id also say that running bulb outside or underwater does not matter. My pool temp in the summer stays in the 90’s. Aka 32C+. Yes. That hot but sometimes i like it. Cheers!

    I struggle to find the words to describe my reaction to this video. I think the kindest thing would be to say - if you want to learn what NOT TO DO to successfully change a pool light, watch this video. Before you even buy a replacement, you figure-out if it's 12V or 110V lamp you need; which is pretty easy to do. You don't buy one and screw it into a 110V house lamp and see if it blows.
