Benedict perfectly fits into Wes' aesthetic. Surprised he hasn't been in more of his movies. AND two Wes Anderson projects in one year?!
Richard Ayoade also fits this aesthetic so well too! I’m very excited to see him in this!
There's more! It's a 4 day event! There's 3 other projects! It's the year of wes anderson!
@@kadenandthespiderok663 They're just shorts tho not feature lengths. Got my hopes up but I'm sure those will hit too
@@veggiewillymass they all are at least like 30+ minutes
@@kadenandthespiderok663 Wow, great news. Heard his next feature is gonna be something darker in tone too.
People mock Wes Anderson for making heavily stylised trailers to the point of being a trope, and Wes Anderson responds by digging into the idea with passion.
Why lean away when you can lean in -- harder.
Good on him.
So... I've often pondered this about Wes Anderson: is he a good director, or is he just good at HIS style of direction?
Now, I have always really loved his films (most of them). So this isn't a knock on his work, but... could he direct like, for example... an MCU film?
Consider the career of Steven Spielberg; horror, comedy, action adventure, drama, science fiction... it's such an eclectic grab bag, and it really demonstrates why he's considered one of the greats. I mean he made Schindler's List and Jurassic Park in the SAME YEAR!?!
In no way do I mean for this to be a criticism of Wes Anderson's body of work, because like I said: I'm a fan. I just wanted to get other people's take.
Like... if someone plays DH for a professional baseball team, and they regularly bat .415 (which is considered a great average), but they're a terrible fielder (can't catch or throw - hence the DH), and they're not really good base runners (bad instincts, no stolen bases, bad top speed)... are they really considered a good baseball player, or are they just good at hitting a ball?
@@mattbrendlen229 I don't know if this question has any relevance. Is a scientist a bad one because he only has knowledge of a specific field? Maybe Wes could direct other stuff, but why should he try something new, if this is what he likes doing and people like watching?
I have always loved Henry Sugar's motto from his life as a lazy rich man: "It is better to incur a mild rebuke than perform an onerous task." I hope it makes it into this movie!
What does the phrase mean?
@@calltothesky2880it means it's better to suffer minor consequences than to pursue an impossible task.
@@calltothesky2880It means that it’s better to deal with the mild social disapproval that comes with being perceived as “lazy” than to do some shit that you don’t want to do
@@vikingsfan2218 oh thanks... nicely interpreted and a solid advice. 👍
I LOVED this story when I was a kid.
Dahl, Anderson and Cumberbatch - what a team!!!
- what a pengling!*
Childish joke aside, it will be a good watch.
Hinduism is there..
Wes Anderson’s work is always phenomenal. I am quite grateful to be alive and enjoy his work in real-time. I hope he keeps going for many years to come.
Meh you see one you've seen them all. His best work is behind him.
@@NORWOODShadow It's art, enjoy it. It's the whimsical things like Wes Anderson's movies that give people a smile.
@@CNsays Happy it gives you a smile, nobody can take that from you. For me his work has become a parody of itself.
@@NORWOODShadowthis one was actually quite good . Not like his last two films, that was almost unwatchable
I watched it today. The only bad thing about it is that it's only 38 minutes.
Benedict and Ralph have great chemistry together.
All the right ingredients but over too quickly :(
Finally, we get to see Benedict in a Wes Anderson film. Can't wait
After he pays reparations
it is a short film of 37 min.

I really enjoyed the heightened intricacies of the set, expanding and being broken down with the stage crew moving about as if it were a stage. Fits perfectly with Wes Anderson’s love of nestled stories and narrations, layered framing devices and stories. Wes is a bit more gentle and sentimental than Roald’s rougher texture, but I really enjoyed this.
I never thought I'd see an adaptation of my favorite Dahl story, because it was so lesser known. So exciting!
I didn't expect it either, it's not one of Roald Dahl's more popular stories. I think it will be a delight to see it adapted by Wes Anderson 😊
I love this Dahl story!! I am gobsmacked they didn't mention his name at ALL in this trailer. Brutal!
I've been saying, every time a new Dahl adaptation comes out, that this is one i'd love to see!
Benedict lowkey killing with the historical movies. first imitation game and now this, props to him, he fits the aesthetic really well
Henry Sugar isn't historical, it's Roald Dahl 😂
Historical?
America moment 🧠
Big brain comment
I love this story can’t wait to see it finally being told on screen!
The great thing about Wes Anderson is that his movies often feel immersive, like reading a book. I’m sure he’ll do Roald Dahl’s work justice.
What is the name of the book
@@wanarbros The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More
@@penyuwan thanks
This Roald Dahl story had a profound effect on my taste in super-power fiction growing up.... most things wanted to explore combat efficacy, but Dahl went through the origins, implications, and practicalities. I heard a project was in the works, I had no idea it was Wes Anderson!
I wanted to check out the first five minutes of this movie on Netflix out of sheer curiosity. Ended up watching the entire thing. It was delightfully bonkers. Imagine Fantastic Mr. Fox but with live-action actors instead and you'll get half of the idea. Roald Dahl and Wes Anderson is just such a winning combination!
Man, Wes Anderson and Roald Dahl is such a perfect combo! Bring it on!
Ah, that explains it. I thought there was something familiar about that writing style.
They’re both fascinated with India
fantastic mr fox
You are spot on😊
so true
Richard Ayoade and Wes Anderson feels like the most natural cinematic pairing that it's kinda wild to me it's taken this long for them to finally work together.
Yes, so thrilled to see Richard in this.
Now they need to co-write Richard's next book on Cinema.
This was excellent and I loved it. Perfectly brought Dahl and Anderson together.
Thank you sexie
Just finished this masterpiece. Highely recommended anyone to watch it, its so refreshing and enjoyable
I loved this movie even though it was a bit short. My love for Wes Anderson’s movies only continued and will continue to grow as the years go by and new movies get made. Really loved how they featured Benedict Cumberbatch. He really fits into the whole Wes Anderson aesthetic. His movies are so unique and weirdly nostalgic to me. I love them.
"The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar is a mesmerizing journey into the realms of magic, self-discovery, and transformation. Roald Dahl's enchanting storytelling captivates readers with its spellbinding narrative, teaching us that with courage and a little bit of magic, we can unlock the hidden potentials within ourselves. A truly wondrous tale that reminds us of the extraordinary possibilities that lie just beyond our ordinary lives."

GOOSEBUMPS! I REMEMBER READING THE BOOK AND THINKING MAYBE IF I TRIED HARD ENOUGH I COULD ALSO HAVE THAT SKILL! 😅 This is amazing!
It clearly doctor strange
I’m still trying since 2013
U can. It's true
R u trying to learn from real source tho
As a huge Roald Dahl fan, this is absolutely incredible to me ❤️
One of my favorite books as a child! I used to sit in a dark room and stair at the lit candle for hours, convinced I was on the verge of a Henry Sugar-esque psychic breakthrough
Bennedict Cumberbatch as an actor is always captivating to watch! His portrayal of Louis Wain was also amazing, go check it out if you haven't 😎 pretty excited to catch Dev Patel and Ralph Fienes in this movie too 🥳
I really love how Wes Anderson makes movies. The elements are I want in a story are there.
I loved this short story as a kid, and this looks like the perfect kind of adaption!
I know most are excited about Benedict as am I to be honest. But I did not except to see Richard Ayoade. If you know his humor and mannerisms then you know he is also a great fit for a Wes Anderson film. Very excited to see this film!
I wasn't expecting him in this at all, he'll be terrific as usual!
YES! I was so excited when I saw him!
Yeah I'm here for Ayoade. Yes other people in the cast are talented but I am hyped about him the most.
One of my favorite books as a kid 😭 the audiobook was fantastic! I have high high high hopes ❤️
God I loved this story SO MUCH growing up! Who else used to practice trying to see/ feel their way through playing cards as a kid bc you read this? I def did and also one night when camping with my mom and little brother I somehow guessed a shockingly high number of cards pulled from a deck of playing cards. My mom would pull the top card and put them one by one on the picnic table and I’d place my hand over them, let the guess come to me, and say the card. I got so many right it was very spooky. They were like “HOW ARE YOU DOING THIS?” 😂 Mom should’ve taken me to play the lottery that day haha Must have been Pure Henry Sugar magic that night
U can actually learn such skills in India but finding those secret yogis is hard.
Oh my heart's delight. One of my absolute favourite stories from Road Dahl (he never had any misses by the way)
Yep.
road 😂
Who's Road Dahl?
@@richierich7229 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda.
I absolutely adore this book I have read it so many time’s excited to see it made into a movie 😊
Found this randomly and actually screeched in the middle of the shop I was in. My favourite Roald Dahl story. Wes Anderson. This cast. I'm so excited. 😭❣️
Yes! Roald Dahl's Short stories are making a come back!
I loved his children's books both then and now, I love his adult short stories now.
After reading his adult short stories, you realise that there's a nastiness to his children's books, but then you immediately realise that you don't care because that was part of what you always loved about them in the first place
This show was so fresh and fun! Really enjoyed it. I really liked the unique style. Was like a breath of fresh air from everything I normally see.
I have read this book and never in my life I could imagine it being turned into a movie ! Only Wes Anderson can do it....
This is without a doubt my favorite Roald Dahl story!!! I do believe Wes Anderson will do it justice.
one of Dahl's best shorts in a wonderful collection of 7 of his best! And Anderson knows how to Roald the dice! One of my favourite books growing up read them all over and over. This was a delight to watch - It's like Wes Anderson was born to bring Dahl to the screen. I hope he makes more short stories of his. I would particularly love to see My Uncle Oswald, which for me is one of his best Novels and one of the best I have read.
He definitely is. He has teamed up with Netflix to deliver three more - The Swan, The Rat Catcher and Poison
Using the term "I'm so excited" does NOTHING to explain my feelings right now. Henry Sugar is my FAVORITE story. I've read it countless times and I cannot wait to see it on screen
Right!? I'm almost sick with anticipation! Henry Sugar is such an incredible story!
I read this story when I was little and I loved it so much!!! Can't wait to see a Wes Anderson adaptation of it❤❤❤
Brillant, artful and interesting style. I hope young people still enjoy this story. Well done!
What a beautiful, simple, adaptation. Lovely cinema. Fantastique cast.
For me, 'The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar' was the one book that Dahl wrote that sits between his adult books and his children's books. So glad it's being adapted by one of the last decent directors.
now i just need Anderson to remake 'Danny CHampion of the World' or a funny remake of The Twits lol
Loved this story as a Kid. 37yrs old now and can still remember it. This is word to word perfectly adapted to the Screen
Richard ayoade is perfect for a Wes Anderson film.
Agreed!
For real, this has to be match made in heaven.
Richard Ayoade is flying under the radar as one of the funniest human beings ever.
I can't WAIT to watch this ... and I'm going to read it again! Can't remember ANYTHING that happens but I get this warm feeling just remembering I read it and that I loved it so much! I wasn't into books as a kid, but think I read this 3 or 4 times when I was younger!
If it has Benedict it has quality, and finally Dev showed up in a new production..
Facts
I honestly like the whole like theatre concept made into a movie. It's very visually appealing. I am not sure about the story, yet to see it but the visuals are really well done.
The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar is my first book that I read from cover to cover, such a joy to see it goes from print to screen !!!
What happens in it
How’s it end
I loved the whole set of short stories in this book when I was a kid. I always thought the swan was so beautifully written to evoke emotion. THis is just custom made for Wes Anders. Maybe he'll take a run at Danny, Champion of the world. I hope so.
I loved the book as a kid, and this is not at all how I imagined it. I'll have to let go of my expectations cos I love some Wes Anderson
I've always loved the book, and Benedict Cumberbatch matched with Wes Anderson is a great combo to give the book its proper treatment.
One of my favourite stories when I was a kid! Which, now that I'm reflecting as a 32 year old, is a bit strange? But I'm so excited to see it brought to life as a Wes Anderson film!
A wonderful and cleverly written movie. The quick set/scenery changes are brilliant.
WHAT A GOOD COMBINATION!!! this is a dream honestly, Wes and Benedict are a perfect combination. i can’t wait to watchhh
A Wes Anderson film based on a novel by Roald Dahl starring Benedict Cumberbatch? How can one miss this?
This man always nail those kinds of movies, never disappoints
I love the dramatic drama. In addition, the characters of each story are very interesting. In this video, the background and people change like a stage change.
Wes Anderson has done the unforgivable-- taken one of the greatest short stories in history and made it all about himself.
there's a surprise 🙄
It is admirable how you include the stagehands in your film.(more particulary amid the strikes. )
Thank You for giving life and meaning to the unseen by juxtaposing social hierarchy. Your work ennobles the craft and it's guardians.
Beautiful social commentary.
Bravo.
Thank You Wes.
Wes Anderson is a genius! He's like brain candy for adults. In a world of forgettable sameness, he stands outside the box with Tim Burton and Senor Del Toro. These people actually have and inspire imagination. Remember that thing? The critics are just jealous they can't "do". I find Wes Anderson hilarious in his subtle, sometimes obvious ways. I wish to clone him! If I could have lunch with any two people in Hollywood,it would be him and Christopher Walken.
A fascinating film, with a wonderfully creative yet so simple atmosphere. I highly recommend.
Benedict is the perfect actor, anything with him is quality and enjoy
this was one of my favorite children's stories of all time. this is the best possible adaptation i could have imagined for it!
I Love how Netflix turns authors shortstories into Entertainment you cant find anywhere else. Would absolutely Love to see a Bukowski Series next time😂❤
I read the entire short story just so i could watch the trailer and just got to say that i liked the story and the trailer looks promising ❤
Roald Dahl is one of my favorite authors growing up. I’m glad Wes Anderson took this story. I know it’s in good hands.
I absolutely can't wait! I've read the book, and it's a perfect match for Wes Anderson's style.
They are really leaning into the narration of Dahl which is pretty cool if you grew up with this story. Anderson is a good fit for Dahl and the cast is of course excellent
Wes Anderson adapting a Roald Dahl story with this cast. I didn't know Wes could elevate himself to a new level of Wes.
Somehow all those times I read it I never realised how absurd it was, I didn’t expect an adaptation at all, looking forward to it!! Will they really narrate themselves like that the whole film?
Wes Anderson is one of those auteur directors whose movies always makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Yep agree
Yes!!! Benedict is perfect for a Wes Anderson films! And on Netflix no less!
Loved that short story - excited to see it adapted in a film.
Que filme maravilhoso ❤❤❤

Wes Anderson has done what a lot of creators wish they could do: find a completely unique form that makes it so easy to pinpoint as his, even if it it truly isn't unique considering creativity thrives when taking inspiration from other things. How do I know it's unique? AI has been able to impose the style on a bunch of other properties. The fact his style is so consistent AI can make something feel so Wes Anderson is terrifying.
Brilliant - the cast the vibes and Wes aesthetic ❤
My all-time favorite story from Roald Dalh finally coming to life. 🤯
I'll be honest, when I read the story, I never pictured it to be great for a Wes Anderson film but I'm interested to see how he makes it.
Excellent!, I read the story many many times. It's great to see it being made into a movie. Looking forward to more
Two wonderful lives in one film! Benedict Cumberbatch and Wes Anderson
and Perry the Platypus
OMG NO WAYYYYYYYY
one of my fav. roald dahl stories. benedict is an s-class casting choice.
i hope they incorporate the mini-tales into the narrative as well like the swan & lucky break
Terrific adaptation, and it fulfilled a premonition I had earlier in the day yesterday, where I day-dreamed, out loud to some of my coworkers, about how nice would it be, if I were rich enough, to cash out a million dollars every year, and throw it off the roof of a building into the streets. Praise be to the lack of void and the void from which this lack of it lasts.
Two Wes Anderson films in one year?
What a glorious time to be alive.
My absolute favourite Roald Dahl story made by one of my most favourite directors...I can't wait!!
Looks unique, captivating, colourful, alternative, superb cast, beautifully directed...and I can't wait! ❤❤❤
It’s so great to see him getting some work outside of marvel. 🖤
Benedict has always gotten work outside of it
😄 Just watched it two hours ago! Didn't even see the trailer… Very nice short movie. Great actors, incredible sets (as usual), great and cute story… A must see for fans (and others).
You can tell right away it's a Wes Anderson film. The aesthetics are so well known by now.
I read rhe book about 40 years ago!
It left a mark, so it feels quite surreal to me to see it is now coming out as a movie!!
Not surprised, Wes Anderson fits Dahl so well. I've thought this for years! His aesthetic fit his stories in my head when I read his books as a child to adult
Everyone’s talking about Benedict- however- Richard Ayoade fits into Wes’ aesthetic BEAUTIFULLY!! He’s quite a quirky character so I think he was born to be in one of his movies!!! ♥️
Always a special treat to see Richard Ayoade.
I used to love this book as a kid! So excited for this.
I loved the book and this film is a beautiful, riotous version. Well done!
It's good to see Dev Patel again in a big movie like this!
One of my favourite stories as a kid, cant wait to see the movie!!
Wes Anderson may be the perfect story teller... I feel like a child listening to stories on watching his movies❤
What an interesting and unique way of presenting a narrative. Looking forward to this one.
There are certain men who can do no wrong - Benedict is one of them.
What an absolutely perfectly casted film, Wes Anderson is Brilliant. I can't wait to watch!
How have I never heard of this story by Roald Dahl before?! My childhood was filled with his stories😅
Its one of his longest and most exciting stories
