WESTIES should be hand stripped not clipped. The clipping ruins the hair and makes it soft and other problems too. Unfortunately, some WESTIES are born with poor coat quality and the fur is too soft and silky …..so you cannot hand strip it. The fur on top, the top coat should be harsh which protects them from the weather etc. the undercoat is soft and helps keep them warm. They are double coated. When hand stripping them you pull the fur in a certain direction, the direction in which you want the fur to grow back. So a professional hand stripping groomer should know what they are doing. So those that hand strip WESTIES for crufts for example will know exactly what they are doing…..it’s a great art to it. Shaving also makes the fur grow a bit curly…..not how it should be. To see a westie shaved off is, for me, terrible…….not much art to it, ruins the coat assuming the coat was any good to start with. Hand stripping done correctly does not hurt and also allows the skin to breath .

Tammy your grooming video is the only one i like , i like that u are against hairspray, chock , or what ever might be not so good for our sweet pet. my westie doesn't have such a thick fur, i always groomed her with only the scissors , i like it more because the hair remains softer . i comb her 3\4 times a week . thank you for your advice and for this nice video

I’m not a groomer but don’t understand how the hair growth is linked to your plugging it in order for it to grow straight?
