The West and NATO knew from the onset that Ukraine cannot defeat Russia. However, the war provides the West the opportunity to test their weapons against that of Russia while the AFU serves as cannon fodder. Their aim is to embarrass and weaken Russia but that is yet to happen.

But why are you fighting? I challenge you to provide just one good justifiable reason.
I support Russia in this conflict and would like to believe would have supported them in ww2. I think maidan revolution was probably orchestrated by cia and the following regime change, and Russia felt need to react or keep getting even more surrounded and loose the strategic balance with strike capabilities. I also believe the way ethnic russians were treated in ukraine after the revolution played big part. I consider both of these reason reasonable reasons for the conflict as west simply refused to have any meaningful talks about the situation.
But I have to comment that russia and usa were cautious allies in ww2, there where lots of mistrust and discontent between russia and rest of the allies mainly usa & britannia. Stalin felt that rest of the allies kept postponing landing troop to mainland europe and left russia bit alone. But usa gave decent amount of material support for them and the bombing campaign hampered nazies industrial base and kept some of decent part of the luftwaffe busy defending.
And of course there where the race to capture territory in the end (also to capture important scientist and tech). I think this helped to jump start cold war but I believe it would have followed no matter what because of the radically different viewpoint on ecomy etc.

The capture of Avdivka by Russian MoD, such a heavily fortified city, should have convinced US- NATO to stop the war and order Ukrainka to immediately go for peace talks. The fall of avdeevka proved that AFU will not win this war. But what happened, the west began to mull allowing Ukrainka to launch long range missiles deep into Russian territories and also provide them with f- 16s etc . Russian army always adapt to new technologies from Ukraine. They are neutralizing all these new western donated weapons. My opinion is Ukrainka should opt for peace talks in order to save what is still left of Ukrainka. This country is on the verge of complete collapse. Millions of lives are lost forever. The west should acknowledge that Ukrainka has lost this war and encourage them to seek the peace option. I hope i have not posted what they don't want to see.

NATO tested their weapons and were found to be useless given their poor durability, ridiculous maintenance, and Military Industrial Complex pricing. An export Javelin costs $240,000 USD and yes it's reusable if you have extra missile tubes, but in practice no. A Kornet-E (AT-14) ATGM is $875,000 for 1 launcher and 10 missiles or $87,500/missile. *[Edit: This is what Russia charged the Turks. Russian arms are in high demand. Pricing varies]* Russian weapons are the best bang for the buck. Rugged, dependable, works under harsh battlefield conditions including General Mud, better than equivalent NATO equipment, and priced reasonably.
This war has underlined the importance of cost efficiency. Drones are excellent example: It no good to shoot drones down with missiles that cost 10x or more than the drone that is shot down.
Well when an export T-90SM costs from $2.5 to $4.5 million, a $240,000 Javelin seems like quite a bargain! While drones are even cheaper at $500 a piece so that Ukraine can send a dozen drones to overwhelm a T-90 at a far better return in value!??

This is no surprise on a continent where the majority of countries are failed states.

From a military standpoint Russia has gained the advantage of fighting a 21st century modern war against an equally capable but out numbered Ukrainian army.
The US military has positioned itself in the same way the British did just before WW1 by fighting militarily weak adversaries and not pitched battles against real standing armies.
This major flaw was brutally exposed in WW1 on the western front in 1916.
The Americans I feel are now at a disadvantage if they were ever to come into a pitched battle against the Russians.

Attrition means that Russia is wiping out large population of men capable of fighting in Ukraine.

@@trev_og_music - Ukraine has never been an independent state (they have never had own borders) and there is no ethnic group called Ukrainians - they all are Russian Slavs and they speak mixed language which is close to Russian. There we are really in the core of the Russian culture.
In Russia there are >100 real different ethnic groups which also have a unique language - they cannot get independence even if they would like. Similarily in USA, even Red Indians cannot have independence even when they really want. My country Finland is one of the ethnic states and we don't have significant minority groups - diallects we have but not any such groups have required independence.

The fall of selydove (october), key hub south prokovsk, ignited a fomino effect among ukrainian lines. Let's bear in mind at least three battallions from two Ukr brigades defended that town. The russian strategy to simultaneously hit four different hotspots while the general command of AFU was focussing on kursk caused the ukranian forces went into disarray. Three cities, kurahove, toretsk and velika-novoselik have fallen within a period of two months with heavy losses for AFU. Only in the battle for velika-ns two entire battallions (110th brigade) have been decimated . Ukraine should face the raw truth: it has a severe shortage of manpower. Its kursk army corp is encircled with supply lines increasingly cut off. Every week they loos three or four Abrams, leopards 2a4/5, Cv-90s. It's totally absurd they refuse starting negotiations.

This spoke of tactics and pace of the conflict. Interestingly left out the lack of performance of western defensive and offensive systems, as opposed to Russian overwhelming advantage in performance and technology. Western military industrial complex fell far😢short of effectiveness. Abrams tanks my (father) help build a disappointment he didn't design them just machined them. Patriot and the rest of lacking western defensive systems. Training since most of the credit would be US, BUT also France, Britain Germany troops failing training failing. Tactics lacking. The turn of the war didn't started in 2024, but in fall of 2023 when Russia started mass production and integration of FABs into their airforce, which completelly changed their air combat tactics. As a result, they became way more effective in their strikes, while losing way less fighters or helicopters. The same applies to the mass production and integration of Iskander missiles too. The higher efficiency in these areas then was seen in early 2024 up to the summer, when they were able to strike in large numbers and provide better support to ground offensives, which then resulted in the desperate Kursk offensive. The offensive only fast tracked the already advantage Russia gained.

Many people also seemingly don't even realize how much the Russian military industry has been boosted since the start of the war, they're producing a lot of stuff that is actively used on the battlefield a lot right now (like drones, missiles, etc) with insane speeds, probably more than the entirety of Europe combined
