Her voice has a haunting feeling in this song. As a guy, hearing this song sung by a woman really changes the perspective & hits home to me about lost love.

Cass Elliot and Karen Carpenter had the most purest voices of all time.

    • @nahnni
      @nahnni 9 років тому +10

Princess Pancake I'd have to say Streisand has the purest voice in recording history, and I'm not a Streisand fan. I was, and remain, however, a fan of Cass Elliot's and agree that her voice was one of the purest (I'd have to say that Denny Doherty had one of the purest male voices as well). Karen Carpenter, if she had had better musical direction, would have been a legendary jazz singer. She held the perfect voice for it. As it was, her vocal gift was eclipsed by the "pop tunes" under her brother's direction. Then again, maybe that's all she wanted. I don't know. I couldn't stomach The Carpenter's music, but recognized an outstanding voice being eminently wasted. Just my view, of course. I know many are fans of The Carpenters. I just thought Karen held greater potential.

+nahnni Huuuuh! Interesting!... I personnally consider Joan Baez's voice to be the purest of all recorded female voices of all times... I feel sad sometimes feeling that nobody else seems to share my point of view but oh well... That draws nothing from Mama Cass's phenomenal voice and timber!...

Yes. Linda Ronstadt has, to me, the best "pop" female voice ever. It could be pure but it could be a lot more besides. Linda could sing anything: folk, country, pop, rock, mariachi, opera and she did it all with such modesty.
      I love Mama Cass.

Didn't wanna have to do it
Didn't wanna have to break your heart
Didn't wanna have to do it
I kept a-hopin' from the very start
    But you kept on a-tryin'
And I knew that you'd end up a-cryin'
And I knew I didn't wanna have to do it at all
Didn't wanna have to do it
Didn't wanna have to be the one to say it
Didn't wanna have to do it
I kept a-hopin' there'd be somethin' to delay it again
    Yeah, but then
No, I didn't wanna have to be the one to say "The end"
Was a time that I thought our love could fly
    and never never fall
Why should I suppose we were never really meant
to be close to each other at all
    No, I...
Didn't wanna have to do it
Didn't wanna have to be the one to say it
Didn't wanna have to do it
I kept a-hopin' there'd be somethin' to delay it again
    Yeah, but then
No, I didn't wanna have to be the one to say "The end"
No no, not the end, no no no

Thank you very much for posting this Mr. Ocnarfeara! This is the "ANGELIC" voice of "MAMA CASS"! and yes I totally agree with all of the other brilliant comments posted! She was one of the most prolific singers of the "Hippie Generation"!!! and yes,it's really too bad that this was never released...maybe "SEBASTIAN" thought it might have sounded better than his release! and "CASS" did not want to offend "JOHN"(who knows for sure). However, I personally listen to this beautiful version several times a week! Thank you all very much for taking your time to read this.....

Thank you very much for your nice comments Mr. rockabillybilly1.I wrote The Lovin Spoonfull in the title because John Sebastian and Zal Yanovsky participated of this recording in 1965.

this may be the most beautiful song I've ever heard. To think this beauty got cut short is such a tragedy. If only she could have graced this earth longer. Every note she selects has such nuance and strength. Also, I think Morrissey built an entire career on this song! haha!
