McInTEC Thank you for this demonstration. I have a 2003 Jetta and the radio suddenly went out and is dead. I did tons of research and found that there are two fuses to power the radio and they’re both still good. Therefore I went ahead and bought an aftermarket kenwood radio very similar to the Sony in this video. My question is if I just replace the radio without the bypass “wiring hack” and just plug in the converter wire units will I still be able to run the radio normally and just have to manually turn the radio off every time I turn off the car to not run the battery dead? Or will the radio be forced to be on at all times and completely drain my battery? If you can reply that would be great! Thanks!
Yes that is correct. But you want to make sure the radio is fully off. Some units will still idle when "turned off" on the unit itself. if there is power to the red wire..... Have a set of booster cables ready..... could wire a toggle switch to control the power.
Dylan Bonneau mine was a kit and it all came together with everything I needed to make the radio swap. It came with the adapter for jettas if that’s what your asking.

Good information, thanks. I discovered when I did mine (2004 Jetta, upgrade to a Pioneer) that it works even better if you buy the CAN bus interface from PAC-Audio. I'm not a seller, just telling you what I found. The bus interface gives you back the capability of "Aux" power On and generally keeps everything operating the same as the factory radio; faceplate dims, stays on 'till you remove keys, etc.
Hey i have an 04 jetta with the same stock stereo and i was wondering where you got the kit from because i just cant find a good kit that works like yours
hey i have a 2000 jetta gls 2.0 L not sure if i have a monson ( guessing i dont since its only a sigle deck with cassette and radio and i want to install a aftermarket radio ( my question is on m car is it a monson ( if not do i still cut that red wire on just leave it as is thanks :)
i bought a Jetta 04 with a aftermarket radio and the fade from front to back don't work right. it's like all 4 speakers are running on 2 channels. did you run into this problem? I seriously have looked everywhere and can't find a fix.
In my 2001 GLS with the monsoon double din system, I wired in the red wire normally with the harness, everything works great for me. The radio doesn't stay on, and I still got the accessory mode.
there anything i can replace to the key holes instead of those keys specifically. I didn't get those keys with the car and don't want to wait to put the radio in.
I'm having an issue in my 02 Jetta, where when wired up, the power to the stereo cuts completely when I remove the key . Is there another hot wire I can connect to (other than running from the fuses)?
I have to same car and was wondering. When said you had to to use the wire and ho to the fuse box so the radio would turn on when the car turned. Was that just so that would happen or so that you wouldn't have to just turn t the radio manually? If you didn't do that at all would all you have to do is turn it on and off when you turn on the car? Or was it a power source issue?
PINKHALO Yes. I used this www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B002B5G4RA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . My install is perfect, and accessory power ETC works perfectly. All functions retained.
please do not use electrical tape and run a wire directly into the fuse block like that. Use solder, heat shrink and find a wire that is on the key before tapping into the fuse block.
Yes you do. I had to buy 2 sets as they only come in a pack of 2. I got them from a well known hardware store so they are not hard to find. I suppose you could try something that is similar shaped? However, you risk damaging your OEM unit which you may want to put back in if you sell the vehicle.
Hi I got the wire harness for jetta 2002 but it has 5 brown cables I don't know where I connect them because the stereo I bought doesnt have brown cables what can I do thanx
McInTEC Cool so basically wiring to the fuse box is just a way to turn off the radio when the ignition is off. Im planning on getting a double din stereo for my Jetta soon thats why i was confused i dnt mind turning it off manually.
That's exactly it. I did however get an actual wiring harness that communicates with the ECU to turn the radio on or off with the key. I have a video of it, check it out ua-cam.com/video/4HfZj92z0kw/v-deo.html
Little hack......that's exactly what this is,a hack job! You HAVE to use the xsvi-9003-nav adapter or else you'll think your stereos been possessed. It needs to talk to your ecu and sync info.
They have these kits at Crutchfield. A lot comes free if you buy it in conjunction with a stereo. www.crutchfield.com/p_120ASWC1/Axxess-ASWC-1-Steering-Wheel-Control-Adapter.html
hello friend. your solution is efficient, but not very clean. what I did to solve the problem of ignition was put that cable into the yellow nut number 75x, instead of placing it directly into the fuse box (it looks bad) You do that by removing the plastic cover beneath the steering wheel, you will achieve the yellow nut 75 Put that cable there !! With respect to the microphone, I placed just above the radio. Making a small hole in the removable plastic strip that is above the radio. (A small strip) you can use a Loctite glue or Poxipol epoxic compound.
U skipped one part. U just put the radio in without telling us how to connect the wires from the radio to the wire in the car. Then only after put in the Radio
Just match the wires, get the little plastic connector tubes, and then match the colored wires from the wiring harness you get from the store with the wires that come with the harness that came with your radio. There are other videos that specifically explain this part of the installation.

I agree with Nate, I would love to see the specific products you used. The keys, the tail, the kit? Great video. I want to do this!

What are the 3 brown wires on the new connector?
Nice Video i will like to now watch wire is the one going in to direct power the red or the yellow power wire
If you do not wire the system to the fuse box and you just turn off the radio manually whenever you turn the car off, will it still drain the battery?
seems that way. it does it to my car
Does the Monsoon version have the amplifier in the trunk or is it built into the double din head unit?
The version I had the amp was built into the double DIN.
What is the "sleeve cover" called that you put underneath the radio?

Is the sound better than the OEM headache sound ?
Great job!! I was stuck for 2 days....
Where did you purchase the radio antenna adapter? I can´t find it anywhere
wiring directly into the fuse box kinda bypasses safety features, No?
It was on the fused side, so it was protected. This was a simple hack at the time until I purchased the RAP module.
you dont need them to be connected at all?
Only if your new head unit needs them.
What would happen if you don't run the cable to the fuse box?
The radio won't turn off when the ignition is turned off
Couldnt you just turn the radio off manually though if you decide not to run the wire into the fuse box?
+StealthGundamVRX yes you can turn it off manually on the unit.

What are the brown wires? why are they not connected?
The unconnected wires are used to signal when the car is in reverse, park and speed sensor.
you dont need them to be connected at all?
Only if your new head unit needs them.
