    Dynaflow transmission. Doesn't shift in the sense a regular transmission shifts. There is a Low and a High, but it starts in High. You can access Low but you aren't supposed to shift between Low and High much. You want to see a cool '55 Buick find the video here about Gary Goltz and his Highway patrol tribute car.

    I never had any doubt you would get that Buick to run. And it's quiet. No rod knocks.

    @ 30:21, I think something rolled of your car ,if you look on the right side of video out your window after the bump you will see something rolling away ,I believe it might be a hub cap

    My Dad had a 1954 Buick with the Dynaflow trans and it had no problem running 75 mph with still a lot left if you wanted it. I don't think you are getting full throttle maybe . He also had a 1952 Buick straight 8 stick shift that would run better than 75 mph. Your car should run todays highway speeds with no problem. I had a 1957 Buick that would run close to 100 mph and maybe would have if I had kept on it. That was in my young and crazy days many years ago. I currently have a 1949 Plymouth with the flathead 6 and standard trans and it will run 65 mph and maybe more but I don't push it because it is 72 years old. Two years younger than me. I generally just cruise around at 50,55 mph in it. Glad to see your old girl alive again buy she isn't as well as she could be.

      My dad had a 54 Super Dynaflow "322" nail head brand new, (before that a 1949 super) and I had the 54' later in 1959 at age 19, that car would easily do over 100 MPH, I'm in my 80's now but can tell you I did it drive over 110 wide open and easily in 1959 when it had about 55,000 original miles on it. I also later had a 55 Olds Starfire Convert that was equally fast on top end and a screamer off the line with Hydramatic auto trans, You could wind the old Dynaflow auto in low up pretty fast and it did burn some rubber off the line, but the century was lighter and the fastest model, in 1954 200 HP, 4 barrel stock carb 322 cubic inches, the super was a 182 HP 2 barrel carb and used the heavier Roadmaster body, the century used the smaller Buick "special" series #40 body and 4 barrel roadmaster 322 V8, so it was their factory hot rod and quick in it's day as was the Olds super 88 with it's 324 cubic inch Rocket V8.

    Those old generators don't charge well at idle. A trip at highway speed for 20 minutes will cure it.

    What about engine break-in don't you need break-in oil and keep the revs at perscribed level for ~1K miles? Do you think the RFI thottle linkage is set to give full throttle? The car should go well over 60 MPH. Great to see the car run and you feeling better.

    I hope this isn't an ignorant question. 😔 non detergent oil, straight 30w. Is that what it originally required? Or is it just because you were not sure if the engine was ok so why us real good oil? Curious!

    there's a 56 Buick special 4 door in my Grandpa's pasture but it would take a lot and I mean A LOT like completely taken apart and redone to get it going again so Buick revivals are a special thing to see as any old car but old Buicks especially, I know why it died on you there, I noticed by the sound and the exhaust it's running a little too rich might want to lean that out a bit, and also keep it where you start it by pushing down the gas pedal to start it, that especially comes in handy if you were to get it flooded.

    • @shicoff1398
      @shicoff1398 3 роки тому

      Correct, top speed was easily over 100 true MPH. you could cruise all day at 70, even the old pre 1953 straight eight could cruise at 70, my dad had a 1949 Buick Super brand new and then a 1954 and it did exactly that, I had two 54's over the years with nail head V8's, good motor.
