i think got the beat rlly showed that sm as a company's art direction & sound was getting stale. like ppl already noticed it but got the beat just made it more obvious + everything in 2022 rlly proved it.

I might agree with this regarding their groups, but their soloists have released great music all throughout 2022 and 2023, but unfortunately they get way less recognition compared to groups.
Could it be that SM simply has chosen to prioritize even more promoting only in Korea and not international? (I heard, back when I used to watch a channel called, I think, DKDK TV, that SM is only a good company for pumping out idols like local wise, they said SM's focus has never really focused or had in mind an international fanbase)
@@flonny1340 actually, SM was the first k-idol company to try and promote in US but they couldn't. they have a good market in china as well. i don't think they have stopped priortising global promotion, but apart from aespa, i haven't seen them try & promote any gg globally since girl's generation, and bb's are sort of hit & miss, some of them stick around at global charts but most of them have a niche fanbase.

I could not agree more with you, Lisa. Especially with the mistreatment with Got the Beat. SM Entertainment really did them dirty. BoA is A POPSTAR DIVA, THE WOMAN INVENTED THE KPOP, SHE PERFORM WALKING UPSIDE DOWN, and y'all gave that mild song to a project that she is involved? The lineup for this group is insane, y'all hired the best of the best idols under SM, and y'all have the aUDACITY, to not promote them properly? This is unforgivable.
SM Entertainment is in desperate need for a change. I used to be a big fan of the 2nd generation of kpop, so, I have seen SM golden years. SM always had several problems with their idols, like not talking care of their mental health, unfair payment, but, at least, they used to promote their bands rEALLY WELL, back in the day. Me, being a DBSK fan, could not more angry with their management. The way how they mistreat their artists, especially the older ones, it's just unforgivable.
it's so bad, I cannot believe how lazy their work was for GOT the beat, it is absolutely ridiculous! the artists performed really well, but there's only so much you can do when the core of the project is hollow
another thing that makes the treatment of got the beat so upsetting to me is that this is the same company that created & heavily promoted superm. that boy group had a world tour, an online concert, an american television debut, a full studio album, a collab with MARVEL and more…yet the female counterpart with several of k-pop’s pioneers gets a single, a music video, an ep, and a dusty set. make it make sense

triples' concept is similar to the japanese group akb48 where they perform at a theater every day & u can watch them grow as performers. with triples they're supposed to imperfect & you as a fan can watch & help them grow which i personally don't think is the greatest & can do more harm than good to the girls' mentality. i think they're a bit confused on art direction but i assume they're just gonna ride this y2k wave out like everyone else is.

Mixers have had an issue with their creative direction too girl. My girls deserved so much better. Holiday's mv got messed up bc of the pandemic and also, bounce back mv is my favorite from them. It's a lot of fun and has a lot more going on

Not to be a Hybe stan but for the past few years I have LOVED the art direction on everything they've put out from every group under the label. Even if it's not some super deep concept, it's always visually pleasant and cohesive. Ever since fromis9 joined them I have loved whatever they put out and their latest album is actually perfect in my eyes.

So happy to see fromis_9 getting more love over the years, and so glad they finally got a full album!!! I got into kpop through their pre-debut MAMA performance in 2017, so they're super special to me 💛
Preach on the LM part. As a big Little Mix fan, I completely agree with what you said. These girls are too talented to get these not so compelling visuals and getting sabotaged by their own labels
I think a factor into why Kep1er doesn't have a cohesive sound compared to Iz*one may have something to do with the rigging of Produce48. The rigging meant that the producers already had an idea of what the group's concept would be as well as their sound, and they could ensure that the members that made it into the final lineup would suit the concept.
i dont think ive's concept is youthful at all, the girls are young but their concept leans very much on the mature side. 'kitsch' however is youthful & i think that should've been their initial concept. the popular girls in high school or wtv! very much 'the clique' or 'gossip girl', then we could've transitioned into sounds & videos like love dive, after like, & i am.
their concept feels more like an elegant royal narcissist concept tho the lyrics of the songs and the way they carry themselves
I think they definitely lean heavy on the elegant concept, but they're still going for youthful imo, bc compare them to second gen elegant girl groups - they had a different look
so here for the got the beat slander I can’t believe they had a line up this GOOD and fked it up ESPECIALLY when it’s sm arguably the company that knows how to execute concepts and produce good music the best it’s just very weird, got the beat make no sense to me

Hi Lisa! As someone who follows Kep1er. The amount of mismanagement their company Wakeone has done to this group is a mess. I would say their debut has a space concept. their recent comeback, Giddy seems a little bit more cohesive in terms of concept and their Lovestruck album. •These girls deserve so much better. It seems like their fans and casual fans/general public prefer their some of their title tracks but especially enjoy their B-sides and their Japanese releases more.
Kep1er should have explored the space concept more. Also they should have made songs like WJSN did or something like Loona. The best concept would have been space concept with elegant like Save me save you by WJSN and they could have done a girl crush with space for comeback like Loona So What. They would have had way bigger fandom and the GP would also have eaten up their songs. Too bad their company is shit.

•Some Kep1er B-sides that fit like an elegant space concept are MSVK, Back to the city, together forever, dreams, why, happy ending, rewind, Le Voyage, Attention, Daisy, good night,Up! (Summer concept), I do, do you?, etc.
•And Kep1er’s B-sides downtown,Lion tamer, Girls (kind of) and wa da da (kind of) fit for the girl crush side. (I did not include We Fresh & Wing Wing& their Girls Planet 999 songs)

@@LisaFevral Hi! Thank you for for responding to my comment. I hope their company does better for their concept/styling/music genres for their title tracks since they have around 1 1/2 yrs left. I mean one of Kep1er members-Xiaoting, is a professional ballroom dancer. Their company can do so much more.
I believe they were an experiment to see how people people were gonna take the show cause with ZB1 u can see they actually thought about it and stuff

I don't know if you're into them but if you are you can put Dreamcatcher in the next part. Their music is great and their lore has a clear storyline every saga (every 3 comebacks or so) and even if their aesthetics have evolved they never lose their distinct touch.

@@LisaFevral IVE is so simplistic (I heard their concept was supposed to be "the perfect girl group" and I wonder if it's why they're not too committed to any theme so far? Is perfection, perhaps, being able to embody various themes even if it's only for a song and not an album? They also remind me quite a bit of Fifth Harmony- atleast in the pop aspect. Girls on Top... I wonder if the lack of enthusiam towards the group's image is also affected by the fact that Mr Lee (Sooman) has stepped down (I say looking at the Ayo comeback for NCT even though I didn't listen to the songs 😅 but just based on styling effort). I can't believe Kep1er is so vague😅 but I might still check out their stuff because I did want to check them out after STAYC -(edit: girls, it's going down)-

I'd recommend you checking a girls group named boys world. It's a western girl group and what interested me is that they put an effort in their choreographies a bit like kpop groups. Their music videos might not be as good quality as in kpop but i can see that they're following a concept and the fact that they put together girls with different aesthetics but still managed to form a cohesive group is incredible. (sorry for any english mistakes, it is not my first language)
Anyways I love watching your videos and I'm quite curious with what you think about them.
About some of the groups in the video
With Kepler, at first I understood why their company wouldn't want to invest too much on them and create a full fleshed out concept since the group isn't permanent but then I remembered Iz*one, a group that was formed under similar conditions with a similar contract but that had a much more consistent and well realized concept, and how beloved they were. Which makes me come to the conclusion that the group deserved a better concept, pretty sure they are going to be successful anyways but I don't think they are going to get the same hype as to when Sakura and Chaewon went from izone's concept to le sserafin for example. They have some bangers tho
I feel bad for Ive because even when they do nothing they manage to catch strays from other fandoms, especially since how young some of these girls are. To the concept itself, it's clear that the company knows what they are doing in terms of music production, aesthetic and the way they present the girls but sometimes I feel that they play it too safe/plain with the styling. But aside from that they have been a top tier group so far

6:23 I feel you on this. 😅 I dont listen to a lot of music or albums 😅 but when I do, I am kinda disappointed 😔 😅when I realize to listen to the full album its like, surprisingly short. At least to what I think albums should be. Idk if that's just because I like to imagine scenarios and different worlds with cool storylines so I need it to be somewhat long, or else I feel like its not enough
I think if I like the sound of a group/artist, I want to hear them experiment with that sound while still giving their unique approach, and that can only happen in a full length album

The only kpop group that has a concept but are also doing different themes are gidle. They always are somehow doing dif stuff but are always on brand or on concept(?) idk if that makes sense lol. And the styling is ALWAYS LEGENDARY. THERE I SAID IT IM SORRY LMAO. side note i feel like skz r also kinda doing that but gidle does it “better”
Even tho I don’t like the last G idle songs song wise, but their concept and styling is very good. They really set a whole mood and theme for their comebacks. They just need help with producing and especially writing lyrics. I liked Tomboy tho and liked Nxde’s message.
I think they have some loose ends here and there in their music and concepts, but they are one of the top groups in terms of concepts in general. They really commit, and what I do love, is that they always have really good styling that goes perfectly with the concept

Little Mix is actually much more than what you described, but yeah I've always had beef with their creative team. They're always coming up outdated shit or when they do smth slightly more creative, they never take full advantage of it. Btw I don't think you've ever talked about *(G)I-DLE* which is interesting considering they're pretty much THE best 4th group when it comes to concepts. And it's also lowkey unfortunated that this video came out like 2 seconds before NewJeans dropped their AMAZING pics & teaser for their new album.😭

idk where id put kep1er. they have just been going through it from the start bc of the company not caring about them, kpop fans choosing them as a punching bag for some reason, and also maybe the division of the fandom itself, though i believe that last one is a consequence of these companies treating the girls poorly and unfairly since gp999. i feel like they do have an identity but its just not properly showcased, just by choosing different songs on their albums as title tracks and planning proper promotions would make a huge difference

Dreamcatcher hands down they perfected a concept and sound that no one in the history of K-pop girl group have perfected a rock-metal-pop with Dark-horror concept with over 60+ songs in their whole discography songs like Jazz bar,Lock inside a door,Starlight,Break the wall etc etc..all different genre of music and arts interms of music culture Dreamcatcher appreciates the music history the most you name it rnb jazz,rnb hip hop,rnb pop, electricro pop,syth pop,synth rock, retro ballet,retro pop,80s' pop,pure metal,pop-metal,pure-rock any genre of sound they will have atleast one song that will be in the category.

Honestly, dreamcatcher is the only kpop girl group that slays in terms of concept, and their music is quite diverse even though it is mostly rock/metal influence.

I really agree with GOT The Beat and Step Back but I was literally obsessed with Stamp On It so that is the only thing I disaagree with. I liked the bsides but would rather have some of them through different albums. SME is great or was great in being experimental and all but I would say it could have been because LSM left and was planned to leave most likely. Because of the whole crap he has done to groups. They have amazing groups but some do not hold up. I love my boys NCT. I started to stan them like actually STAN not just listen to them last year. I stanned æspa since their debut and loved NCTs music for a LONG time just yeah. I was for a long time mainly just an ARMY. I am blaming it on that :"D

to answer the question of the differences between got the beat and super m is because super m was aa project Columbia records commissioned lee sooman to do for an international market, i believe the majority of the money was coming from Columbia -- got the beat is just an sm project. I'm also a fan of all of them and i did enjoy the mini album but i hard agree that they still didn't get what they deserved at all!!! i think their rollout and lack of performances is the perfect example of how sm is struggling pre and post lee sooman. they haven't found an identity and are losing their footing and it's getting dire.

i also have beef with little mix #harmonizer4life, but no i actually think a lot of what little mix did was good & fun! it did get a little stale around 2018, but just abt everything was boring in 2018... i actually think their styling esp. earlier in their career was very charming, but it's definitely a product of its' time so u either love it or hate it.
also their best music videos are 'black magic', 'how ya doin', & 'move'

Little Mix deserved so much more, and I really appreciate how the girls worked with what they had, but damn...their label/management whatever wanted them to fail and it makes no sense because they were one of their best selling/iconic acts.
it's so crazy that they were making money for their company(they were not flops or anything financially speaking at all) and they barely invested in them

Anyways, it's such a damn shame, not just from their visuals in photoshoots and videos, but even concerts, there should've been more (I actually have a note where I list everything I would've changed from their career, especially setlists and countries/states and venues/events they should've performed), but I enjoyed what they gave, and I'm so happy for their solo paths! From Leigh's, it looks like she's being invested in! I would actually love a breakdown from you about her video.
yeah I think they were kinda pushed aside a lot bc of one direction at the time! and I'll look into it!
@@LisaFevral Still...it was downright ridiculous how the girls had to fight for the smallest things, and they couldn't even give them that. Little Mix were on par, at times, better than 1D, especially as their talent and confidence grew. Fifth Harmony was great and deserved much better too. You would think a record label would make smart decisions to profit off of their greatest acts not sabotage/traumatize their girl groups.
In defence of kepler their Japanese single was so cute and retro, with burn books and a bit of female rage in end. But yeah, they not consistent at all
Hi oh you mean Kep1er’s Japanese comeback, I do, do you? Yeah the music video was a prom concept and at the end the members got cheated by their prom date and they fought back. I think all of the concepts Kep1er has done so far like Space, teen crush, girl crush, summer, prom, cute, I think it could work if their company did a better job with the consistency of those concepts.

GOT had so much potential but SM really fumbled the bag. I’m honestly not surprised because SM is known for introducing us to new groups, subunits and then completely pretending that they didn’t even exist like yearrrrrrss ago around 2012-2013 ish they made a subunit named younique which had Taemin, Hyoyeon, Kai, Henry, and Luhan. The ones that been there knew 😂😂😂

step back's lyrics are some of the most disappointing material i've seen from kpop. sad, because their talent is crazy and i really liked how the song sounded like some sort of witches' coven ballad but really it was all about a man :l
Little Mix cover that you showed is fugly and without any good effort into it. Also, the fragrance ad looks cheap with a price tag. Why are their professional editors are terrible? Kind of reminded me of US Vogue cover from June/July but with worse level of editing instead of a pose.
I do hate light clip filters because they look cheap even with the expensive price tag.
If you wanted more western girlgroups for the next one I would add BOYSWORLD, Citizen Queen, and Flo. (You could also add XG)

I think specifically those colours are not that common in gg makeup looks(they're usually going for more bright tones or if it's dark it's usually red)

Maybe not hate, actually yeah, in places like Korea where there are still people that hound these "idols" to definitively want to know their sexuality, that probs won't happen any time soon 😅
@@Duvelle_Korea, at least to my knowledge, has a lot of the same issues that Japan has. So like being very misogynistic, not treating half of their population nearly as good as the other half, there's definitely more but, tbh, I don't feel like continuing writing 😅
