I think this podcast might be your North Star, Armie. Very few podcasters are this compelling right out of the gate-you’re naturally very good at this and frankly way more interesting in this setting than when you were super famous.

Armie, this is outstanding. You're going intellectually so deep, it's a complete joy. I crave deep, highly intelligent conversations and following these intricate, deep thought processes. Please never hold back when it comes to doing something super deep, complex, analytical as what you're doing right now, or more than that. Have a fabulous day.

The evolving format of this podcast - conversational, loosely structured, raw - coupled with Armie’s warmth, vulnerability, curiosity and intelligence, are quickly moving it up the ranks of the most interesting.
Very much appreciated the reflections and thoughtful perspectives of this guest.

When I subscribed to this podcast, my main intention was to support one of my favorite actors who was so wrongly canceled. It was my way of showing that there are people out there who are sympathetic and understanding of what happened. I wasn’t too crazy about the first two episodes, but after that, the conversations became more and more interesting. With every new Hamertime episode, it feels like the podcast is really finding its voice-and now Mondays are officially Hammertime for me!
There’s so much to take away from these episodes. For eg, today reminded me of a book a friend gave me years ago - “you must read this one” he said - Infinite Jest… i tried but just couldn’t get through it, and it’s been collecting dust ever since. Now, I feel inspired to give it another try!
One recommendation - or call it a request: when a guest has their own thing/project/whatever, like Marston’s book/online game today, it would be great if you included information or links in the episode description. It doesn’t have to be too detailed, just something general that curious (but admittedly lazy) listeners like me can use to explore their work. It would also be a nice way to promote the guest’s work?! Hope this makes sense.

The smoke alarm made me laugh out loud, brilliant! It does show how pure and authentic this podcast is. So much to reflect and learn. I personally think this is a raw concept, very unique and at the same time ppl all around the world no matter what background or status, can watch this and feel comfortable and related. I’ll keep coming back to this.

Very gracious handling of the CMBYN peach question at the end - not simply calling out the mistake of confusing Armie for Timothee Chalamet's character in that scene but instead just moving forward and discussing the heart of the question. Many other podcast hosts would correct the error and make it awkward/embarrassing for the guest.

"I'm just going to be true to me, and I want that to be enough. And if it's not enough for that person, then we don't really want you here anyway."
There are so many people, particularly in our age group, going through this right now. I'm so ready to stop having to put on a mask every day, grinding off every aspect of myself until there's nothing of me left, just to make everyone but me happy. I hope more people watching this decide to find out who they are to themselves, and stop compromising for others.

The issue I see is distance. Collaboration between Marston and Armie made this podcast particularly good. Hopefully Armie can focus long enough to realize this podcast is different than, say, the one with Tom Arnold. That one was good, this one is great. With that said, my observation is Marston could get to know Armie better. Marston seemed to just miss the concept of “Armie and me are doing this podcast together”. And also, many ideas like thought processes, dyslexia, growing up stuff, advertising and cultural influences were touched on, but felt truncated. There were many times I said to myself, “That is a novel view of that”, and then the moment was gone…

Hey, love the pod! ADHD was mentioned a few times in this episode and Armie had some questions about it. I also have ADHD, so I just want to share some info that might be helpful. “ADD” is an outdated term for ADHD. ADHD has 3 types: hyperactive, inattentive, and combined. It’s also not a great name for it. ADHD is not a deficit of attention but rather an inability to regulate the abundance of attention we do have. You are correct, we don’t get to choose our hyperfocuses. It’s like we’re not holding the remote to our own brain. We hyperfocus on things our brains find interesting in the moment (however long that “moment” happens to last, can’t control that either) because our brains are chasing dopamine (we have a relatively lower baseline of dopamine than neurotypical people). The dopamine chase and hyperfocus can lead to great accomplishments, like in creative pursuits, but can also cause risky behaviours and/or addictions in some people with ADHD. It’s mind-blowing how much ADHD explains many aspects of our lives that we never would have thought had to do with ADHD (like task paralysis, rejection sensitivity, emotional dysregulation, etc.) You also mentioned procrastination in prepping a monologue. We’re motivated by urgency instead of importance, so we put things off ‘til the last minute and then work magic in a short amount of time. I recommend Dr. Edward Hallowell’s books on ADHD, the UA-cam channel “How To ADHD”, Trevor Noah sharing his ADHD journey on various podcasts (he speaks of ADHD in relation to his depression), and looking up ADHD memes on Instagram (they’re funny ‘cause they’re relatable).

I'm a writer and this is SO. TRUE. Not giving a damn is important. I am writing the book that I would love to read. Like Truman Capote as a young guy still living at home: one night, his sibling (sister..?) wakes up because she hears a noise. Middle of the night. She goes to the library. The lights are on, and there he stands in front of the bookcases, glancing across the spines. "What are you doing?" His answer: "I'm looking for the book that hasn't been written yet."

I have one wish for your podcast you maybe can think about - it would be great if you will introduce your guests at the beginning or let them do it themselves, maybe. Because if one doesn't know anything about your guest it can be a little bit irritating, at least at the beginning.

@@kellimaclearn1998 agree. And Armie, as someone diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, what you describe about weeks of procrastination followed by that last minute adrenaline rush required to achieve anything is almost ubiquitous in people with ADHD. If you haven’t done so already, I recommend having an ADHD assessment. For me personally it has given me a whole new understanding of bits of myself that seemed incomprehensible before - including addictive behaviours, impulsivity, and so many other things that have given me so much shame over the years. I am not going to lie, it has been incredibly difficult realising this after so much shit has already gone down and feels irretrievable, but at least I understand why.
Also, as someone whose life has fallen apart recently when it once promised so different, I find your level of self acceptance and contentment so inspiring. Maybe, just maybe, I can get there too

I love Armie's style as a podcast host, but I would LOVE to see him explore all podcast topics ala Joe Rogan, rather than only the psychological/spiritual lane. I would love to see him intellectualize many different subjects because he is WAY more intelligent than a typical actor. I know he loves acting, but I think exploring the world through conversations like this is where his heart really shines. This whole process seems to bring out his inner child and it's fascinating to see him in his element excelling again. Clearly his IQ is very high, which it tends to be with many creatives. Armie, topic ideas; simulation theory, aliens/interdimensionals, MK ultra mind control, life after death/ life after life, archeology, models of sociology for the future, will A.I. control society, ghosts/supernatural, etc.

Yes, to be rich and famous is very seductive. As a celebrity it isvery easy to reach everything because someone else is taking care about all. It is called immature life, without responsibilities, like an infant. But you are an actor, and that is inseparable part of that job. Without public apperances, gala dinners, annual events, interviews, guest appearance on a TV shows, there is no contacts, there is no invitations, there is no movies. If you are not visible, audience will forgot you, and replaced you with someone else. And you have said several times that acting is your life, and that you love to act more that anything else, that you have gived up of everything because you wanted to be an actor, because this is the only job you realy know.
You cant say now that acting was just a therapy for the past 15 years.

About video games and life, particular faculties, and ADHD -whether for children or anyone else- if you want or need to read this:
I wouldn't interpret a high interest in video games literally, but I believe every action brings the self to the surface. Therefore, any interest can reflect an inclination toward certain behaviors. For example, enjoying fantasy worlds, cooperative games, cozy games, or shooting games might indicate a leaning toward creativity, social environments, non-competitive settings, or a need to seek control under pressure, respectively.
Regarding specific abilities, like dyslexia, there are often inclinations that stand out, such as having an advanced vocabulary for their age. If someone struggles with reading or writing for any reason but can communicate and express themselves well -or even beyond expectations in context- it suggests they are not a visual learner but rather an auditory or kinesthetic one. For auditory learners, in particular, exploring non-native languages could be the north to stimulate their intellect. Naturally, this could also be integrated with video games.
On the other hand, when it comes to something like ADHD, it's important to remember not to live according to normative expectations. Have you ever tried to focus but found yourself unable, even though you were really making an effort? You sit down, gather your thoughts, and truly commit to concentrating, but it still doesn’t work? Everything is set up for productivity -calm, ideal conditions- but your attention still scatters? If nothing changes, it won’t solve itself.
While peaceful environments can help, maybe you need to embrace more chaos and add music to the mix. Something as simple as that has helped many people. However, it doesn’t work the same for everyone. For some, songs with lyrics can be overwhelming, so classical music might be ideal -or phonk, songs in other languages, ambient sounds, or even ASMR. If that’s not enough, try having background noise like a TV, which introduces a visual layer of activity that can surprisingly be helpful.
This can go for anyone. Learn how to learn and help yourself, and don't let the doctrines stop your potential and grow.
Wish you happiness, in love and peace.

Dr. Arthur Janov in his master book PRIMAL SCREAM (1970.) is talking about that what Armie called "finding a north star". This might be the end of the old road, but it is also a beginning of the new road, which was unknown for you till you reached "a north star". But there is a Catch 22: that new life, and that new path is usually totally different from previous. By examle: if you were a accountist, married, with 2 kids, after the primal scream (finding a north star), you would find impossible to go on with that old job, maybe you will need to divorce, and start totally different life, lets say, like a musician, and without a family because you will find your gay nature, etc. At the same time that kind, very gentle person could become mean, and selfish, because this is his real nature, and it is coming now at the surface, and he is absolutely satisfied with it, and is happy. I want to say that it is not always necessary to be a happy end.

The last I heard of Marston was back when he got arrested for beating up his girlfriend. How interesting…

And he pled guilty so I’m inclined to believe he did it unlike Armie who I think was the victim of girls being mad that the thing they willingly did didn’t secure them in his life.

Yeh I'm concerned that Armie's podcast might end up being all manosphere.
It's not a good look considering the last couple of years.
I really hope he gets some creative interesting people and I wonder why no women except his own mother?

OK, I gotta say this... Everything so far that you guys are talking about is stuff every single one of us is either going through or has gone through or hasn't even realized yet. It doesn't just apply to Hollywood or Celebrity. I'm currently in the processes of realigning myself yet again (because I keep evolving as I learn an grow an get older) an it usually takes (sadly) a massive catalytic fucking shake up of your existence to reawaken you to realign again. The last 5 yrs have been the SHITTIEST of my life. But, I'll be damned if I'm not learning at a rapid fire rate an adapting. I've always tried to be my authentic self but, like I said, that self keeps evolving. Growth an change are usually at the very least uncomfortable if not downright abjectly terrifying an painful. But, I shudder to think that there may come a day where I stop evolving an learning. I may as well just keel over at that point.
Also, I've never been one of those ppl that fan girls over celebrities. They're human, not demi gods. It's common sense. C'mon! So, I've always been more drawn to the ppl an artists who presented as more authentic anyway. Woot! Lucky me! Just saying.
Also, Marston's perspective on sexuality being natural an inherent since birth is awesome! I agree completely! I could ask my mom anything an she would always answer at an age appropriate level. I was empowered as a female to own my sexuality an I'm so grateful to her for that! God Armie, you started masturbating at 12 or 13? Damn you were slow bro! I started at a yr old. I can remember that. 😂 Wow!

Joe Manganiello? He's a big ol' D&D nerd and I love it. I enjoy playing RPGs and LARPing because, yeah, it's fun to become someone else. I don't do it to escape from myself. I think I do it to explore different parts of myself, especially those parts I'm a little uncertain about letting others see. It's the same when I write my characters. It's all bits and pieces of myself that I'm looking to explore in a safe environment. Perhaps, when you get to where you feel like you've found your North Star or at least close to it, you will use your acting for the same reason. Same for Marston Hefner since he's a writer.

Been thoroughly enjoying the podcast. I know this is the beginning but I fear that this space is becoming a bit of a sausage fest (minus the Dru Hammer episodes which were totally fascinating for many reasons). Would love to see Armmie connect with women/feminine energies in the near future. Perhaps he feels more comfortable right now in “safe” male-centered spaces and that’s understandable considering what he’s been through but I think there’s room to engage with and connect with women on an intellectually curious/storytelling level as well.

Thanks Armie!

Armie reading Turgenev? Curious - was it Bezhin Meadow? His Russian heritage pokes at and out of him here and there, yet it’s unclear how much of it he understands. Because it’s obvious it is part of him yet it is unclear how much of it he has fully understood and processed, or how much of it he has embraced or how much of it keeps keeping him in the dark.

Parents have to tell you & make you feel like you are enough from birth. Nobody else can make you believe you are enough.
These two men have been done a massive disservice by their parents.
