Takes an exceptional high degree of skill for a commentator to be inducted into the hall of fame in any sport, yet bill mclaren managed to achieve it
“Born when meat was cheap” will stay with me till I die. Such a respectful, accurate and comical way to comment on someone’s size, sums up the greatness of this man.
The greatest, was not just his commentary but his sheer enthusiasm for the game. Always knowledgeable, the funny quips, a joy to listen too.
With how famous his "mad Giraffe" type quips became you can forget how brilliantly his commentary flowed and the way his tone would change to match what was happening was just world class.
Wow excellent, Takes me back to Jonah Lomu rugby for play station back in 1997🏉 “digs like a demented mole”🤣
My favourite was "That will put him in Ward 4", to which the other commentator would say "I hope not Bill, that's a maternity ward".
@@thestaggy 🤣👍🏼
Poetic, brilliance. His commentary on that Paul Thorburn kick v Scotland. The best.
Nostalgia overload!😍 EOYTs with Bill McLaren on comms was the best ever....I guess it was also helped by the fact that the Boks rarely lost in the NH at the time, so his quips in awe were the stuff of legend. I can still hear him say "16 stone & 5 ounce/pound on the hoof" 😂 RIP Bill....
Another one that I remember, in the 90s I think, involved a Welsh prop coming on as a replacement. The camera shot was from behind him on the touchline as he walked, then jogged on. With an obviously strong and stocky frame, square shouldered and with no neck, Bill simply said "And the Lord said, thou shalt be a prop forward" or words to that effect! Brilliant!
"Hes like a mad Giraffe" The great Bill "Mr Rugby" Mclaren
Legendary... did his homework before every match... 🏉
Aw this is one of your best compilations yet!
Christ almighty, the nostalgia!!

smiling assassin Diego Dominguez 😍
Bill was, is and will be The Voice of Rugby, a true Legend and a very Gentleman!!!❤️❤️❤️
The greatest, bar none. His commentaries should be on the National Curriculum.
Priceless Mr Forde Priceless !! 😁
Best commentator ever !! From South Africa !! 👌👌👌
A true legend.
When I saw the thumbnail of the video I thought it was Alan Bennett
Bill McLaren, my favourite commentator, a legend and an icon.
"good enough for Arsenal"
Knock on at 7.20, should have been pulled back.
No kelso farmer you know!😢😢
There was and only ever will be on Bill McLaren.
Best commentator has to be Grant Nisbett. He puts in so much passion for the game and his voice is just perfect for commentating.
Eddie butler was the best commentator in Rugby history, no one will ever come close to him.
Stay out of this mate
I think we can politely agree that both were exceptional, Butler did beautiful montages, Bill was “the voice of rugby”
As the old saying goes, he couldnt lace bills boots. Mclaren was the best ever. Simple as.....
@@colingeddes2172 so was eddie butler who sadly passed awey few years ago he had a very passionate and strong voice in the rugby six nations.
