The Zoo uses enrichment for their animals. This can come in the form of toys, puzzles, and other items. As they get older enrichment becomes more important. When they are young, the mother does lots of enriching as she teaches the baby the skills.
It's indirect conservation assistance. It's part of Species Survival Plans for Accredited Zoos. When an animal is cared for in a Zoo the keepers can see behaviors that they wouldn't have gotten to see in the wild helping to see what lions need in the wild. It also provides people a chance to see the lions and not be in Africa, it encourages them to love lions and support conservation funds for lions in the wild.
