Hey thank you so much for these videos. Currently trying to rebuild my xr's crankcase. Can you check your work before reassembling crankcase? Check shifting specifically? Are the shafts supposed to be able to spin continuously? Mine spin and then stop at a certain point. Also cant seem to get the transmission in neutral. Both shafts spin no matter where they're positioned on the drum.

In neutral the transmission should spin freely. If it is in gear the transmission will turn but with the crank shaft. Make sure the shift forks are positioned in the correct order. There is an "L" "C" and "R". Do you have a shop manual. If not there are free downloads online that I have found. I would spin the crank and turn the shift drum down into "1" then half shift up into "N" might be an effort with the cases split in half. Let me know if you need anymore help.

Thank you for the help. Went back through and checked everything. I had the top gear on the countershaft flipped. Everything shifts and works properly now. Thank you again for the help and these videos. Newbies like me would be lost without it.

does mineral spirits work the same for prepping metal pieces? I have been scrubbing clean with degreaser, dipping stuff in evaporust then rinse and wipe with mineral spirits. Is this ok to do for crankshaft/head pieces or should I be finishing with acetone only

Thank you for your helpful videos! I am having some trouble however… I’ve gotten to the point where I am bolting the crank case together and the spot where the cases meet on the back side of the engine next to the shift shaft and counter shaft won’t tighten down enough to keep the gaskets from sliding freely between them without going over 10 lbs of torque and the countershaft stops spinning freely. the cases sit about a 1/16 of an inch apart with all the bolts loose. I’m wondering if I need to get the cases resurfaced or if there’s anyway reason the shafts maybe aren’t seating all the way. Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer.

With the cases empty, do they mate together without the gap? Is it possible one of the bearings isn't seated properly? It sounds to me like something I binding.
