Long ago, Dr J (basketball legend) was retiring. He played the Dallas Mavericks in Dallas. We knew this was going to be one of the last times we saw him play, certainly in Dallas. Near the end of the game he sank a shot from mid court. The Dallas crowd gave him a standing ovation. We didn't care that it was the wrong team. It was an awesome shot and we'd been there to see it.
that simple gesture says so much. It's a nice reminder that none of the games we play competetively truly need to be taken so seriously that we can't just have fun and even applaude our opponents. We have choices, and being super mad or upset when you aren't winning every game you ever play, is just a downer to those around you, as well as yourself. Nothing wrong with being competetive and being frustrated when you lose, but at the end of the day it's all just entertainment.
This is truly THE ONLY cheese channel that is epic enough to cover games such as Alan's Immortal Catalan vs. Deep Turquoise from the 1492 feline junior Championships! As I just spent the better part of an hour searching all of our main competitor's game catalogues and surprise, surprise NOT A SINGLE GAME INVOLVING A CAT TO BE FOUND!!
I am just wondering if there is a better book on positional chess than Silman's as I saw it recommended in one of your earlier videos. I have the book, just wondering if there could be better (more advanced) one? Btw, I love the humorous intros, reminds me of my early 90's humor.
Thanks a lot and yes love that book and sorry I’m not nearly widely read enough in the chess space, I’d suggest searching the question on google or UA-cam sorry!
After watching hours of content, I finally caught on to “C4” the most explosive move in chess 😂. I’m awful at chess but your play by play is quite literally some of the most engaging and interesting I’ve heard no matter the event or sport. Truly amazing!
Magnus reminds me of Bobby Orr in hockey. Clearly the best player in the world for a bunch of years. This was simply known about Bobby Orr, for example, he won the goal scoring championship twice as a defenseman, which is just nuts. Magnus had a rating about 70 points higher than anyone else in classical chess for about 10 years ... again clearly the best in the world. Special is the word that comes to mind with both.
Isn't that the truth! When Bobby Orr was playing in his prime, everyone else on the ice looked like they were in slow motion compared to him. And Magnus Carlsen always looks a move ahead!
Man, he won the first game so hard he automatically skipped the rest of the bracket and went to the final. You better believe the rest of the players in that group were not pleased with his opponent. 🤔
1:38 would've liked to see this line a little deeper. If black goes ...g6 after Ne5, couldn't white just take the pawn with Nc6, trade knights, then win a rook with Bc6+? Wow, that ending from magnus was unreal.
the birds of paradise section from david attenburroughs planet earth is something that is forever stuck in my memory because learning english my nan got me this series on VHS along with the original COSMOS by carl sagan and i ate it all up hence love for chess star trek pretentious shit like that. felt the deep lack of lord of the rings bro, thumbs down, thumbs down :P the retreating bishop moves are so class bro cheers man
Ah awesome and yeah I’ll get some LOTR in the next one I’m already counting down the days to watch them with my 6 year old lol I guess he needs a few more years tho!
@@epicchess2021 Apologies, but here comes a long one … again, writer with fancy keyboard so, apologies in advance. And wow, 6 years old? time flies man, like that poem puts it, "one thing is certain / the rest is lies, one thing one thing is certain, time flies / the flower that once has blown forever dies" and more famously this quote: "The moving finger writes and, having writ / moves on, nor all thy piety nor wit, shall lure it back to cancel half a line, nor all thy tears wash out a word of it" - good stuff, Edward Fitzgerald, translation of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, one of the best poems in the english language. And shit man, I tried to get my son into LOTR around the age of 10 for the first time and Vincent will be 17 this year (i'm 39…, fuckin' kickin' 40's door down!) and I was 15 when I saw the film in theatres right when i got my provisional driver's license, but by then i had read the book three or four times. always loved reading, learning english was like learning the secret deciphering code to all the best literature in the world. i never got my son into reading, but he did like the film trilogy of LOTR. but he liked the hobbit trilogy more… which only proves that he inherited his father's deeply stupid genes. Let me know what lil James thinks of the film's, man. Maybe he's not old enough for the Peter Jackson trilogy, but he might enjoy Ralph Bakshi's animated versions of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings? Maybe he'll enjoy it! Oh yeah if you're into modern scifi, check out Cixin Liu's Remembrance of Earth's Past series, they just released a bad adaptation of the trilogy, the first season of Three Body Problem (the first book in the series). the sequel The Dark Forest is superb, but the "game" sessions in three body when you're introduced to the Trisolarins (alien species represented by familiar faces to the player, like the Prophets looking like people sisko knows-Trisolarins-three sun people-three body problem leads to chaotic and stable eras and their planet is not a good home so they want our shit, and our jobs as the lingo would go…our job of breathing and reproducing). The third book in the series is a weak entry but overall Three Body Problem, the Dark Forest and Death's End are all really mind-bending, great science fiction stories. And though i've heard it said the characters are one dimensional, as a writer … of characters … I thought it was all really well done and character based. You even feel empathy for the species which is going to put humanity through a cheese grater as a species and teach us once and for all what happens when you fuck around and find out :P Check the series if you've not heard of it, maybe check out the first season on netflix if you don't have time to start a new book series. It's a decent enough Adaptation for a Modern Audience (TM). If you like good science fiction, you'll really enjoy this series by Cixin Liu, and the backdrop of the game is full of historical figures (einstein who is sadly playing a violin, isaac newton in the game acts like a frat bro who invented Calculus, calls Leibniz a cunt and crook. Aristotle, Wong tse Qi (sp?) has to prove his theorem to Galileo, the Pope and Aristotle (all aliens pretending to be these people) and when he fucks up, they plan to the cauldron to boil him alive. lmao, "Magnus, son of Carl". Bro, Epic really out here with entertaining chess commentary
Not to mention the eponymous "Cat Alan" 🤣
Can't believe it's taken me this long to click why c4 is the most explosive move 😂
Haha
Has anyone noticed that Epic chess is weirdly hilarious?
Yes hes transforming to his final form❤
He’s my comedy of the day. Every day.
My favorite was when he had a Fabi game and every time he showed a picture of Fabi his hair got bigger and bigger
Yes. I would watch these videos even if it was just the picture of the global chess community deliberating the entire time.
Yeh it's a mystery 😅

Yup, not forced at all
I will never not think the "prawn to sea ships" and "c4 -- the most explosive move on the board" jokes are hilarious.
Yikes, I am dumb as a dum-dum not to have understood the c-4 until it was spelled out.

Nothing unusual if you remember how he "massacred" Fabi in the same format match not so long ago
The GOAT never lost a game.

Good News for Tuan Minh Le , He won total of 2 games against Magus.
Bad News for Magnus , He lost 2 games due to internet connection.
Magnus son of Carl has obliterated Minh tbh, the only two defeats came from connection lagging problem
