I just took my '70 Ironhead apart not knowing what I was doing(even though I have 3 manuals), so your video will help greatly when the front end goes back together. I love all your 'touring' videos too. Gives me a heartwarming view of life in the Bay Area. Thanks from Santa Barbara bro man~~
Early original fork tubes were parkerized (since they were covered). Also don’t forget the paper gasket down at the bottom of the slider. That dampener rusted because there probably wasn’t a gasket and all the fork oil leaked out the bottom.
A cool tip, Springs from the 1973-1974 (only) forks will fit and work inside the 33.4's. I recommend the progressive springs if you want the most quality out of these. Other than that, Race Tech is the only option for retro-fitting but its $$$$.
Thanks for posting this. I've been scared to take my 66 xlch apart. Manuals aren't to clear on doing the forks. Now I know what to expect. Thanks again
Hey Maji you extremely very educational and I appreciate the sports videos of a 1974 XLCH and you are helping me out alive even though if these were the catic
love the channel dudes! i think i've watched all of your videos......and i both feel like we're good friends and that i can build a motorcycle. keep it up!
I have a '68 XLH looks the same only no kicker. I love riding it but the brakes are scary. I call them anti-lock brakes. I always have to use both front and rear. But its a fun ride.
My message came out very fucked up but I appreciate your educational videos and I wish you were with me New York City jersey area but keep the educational sportster videos coming thank you you’re a big help
Yup, looks a bunch better my dude. Well approved. Also, new music approved also! Nice work all round, and as others said, dont sweat the schedule. Surely any Muzi is better than no Muzi!
I'm sure you know already but if you don't there is a company in California called Sporty parts that has all the bushings and springs and dampners to rebuild your 33.4. Front ends.
Where did you get the seat cover , and how does that seat bolt on , I can see the front mount but does the rear bolt to the fender like a cobra seat or does it have a bracket like the big buddy seats have?
Looks way better man. Great job..love the channel and what u guys do...you remind me sorta of what Keenan Tatro would be like when he was younger...if u don't know him check out his u tube chanel.
I have the 33.4 mm on my 73 Ironhead. For some reason they seem to flex more then my 77 Ironhead with the slightly larger 35mm forks. Triple trees are tight but they still seem kinda loose. Any thoughts?
Check the front end with the bike supported and the front wheel suspended. Lock the front end and observe movement by trying to twist or "walk" the legs. I hope you don't ride it like that. Many people swap the 33.4 into 35mm trees from the 1973-1974 because the neck tubes would swap between early front end components, but it doesn't mean close enough is correct.
What camera do you use to record? I just found your channel not too long ago and you provide great videos man! Definitely would want to support you through patreon
Hey there! I go back and forth with my iPhone 12 Pro and my canon g7x mark 2! The canon is great but will be switching over to a better dslr in the coming months! The g7x is a great starting platform though! Thanks for saying that! I really appreciate that and look forward to making more and better content!
I just re-watched this video. Good contribution to UA-cam to document the front ends on these bikes.

Yeah a video of the whole process on that old 33mm fork would be very welcome!

I love the old 'CH. I've got a '68 and '69. I like the shorter tubes because it quickens the steering. Subbed/Likie. Thanks for the vid.
The early XLCH’s are the best! Thanks for the sub and the likes!

I put a "74" disk front end on my "68". The drum just didn't cut it for city riding.
If ya got plenty of "GO", ya need plenty of stop too! LOL!

Think of this bro: when that '68 was new it cost about 50 cents to fill the tank !!
Ha ha !
I wish you guys were around in New York city New Jersey area I really could use your help

Where does one find or buy that 33.4 nut tool for removing and installing the fork tube nuts??
