    So I was on a field trip with some friends back in middle school. We were staying at this incredibly nice hotel. Throughout the time we were there, we microwaved, lollipops, gummy bares, gum, and soap (we were having a little war with our friends in another room.) On the last night, my friend whom was rooming with me was extremely tired and wanted popcorn, he microwaved it with the plastic on. After that he decided to just put it in a cup and microwave it again. We both sat there watching in awe of how beautiful it was, while the other guy we were rooming with kept calling us retards while laughing at us. Long story short, butter got burnt to the microwave, room was trashed, chaperone didn't give a shit, and we are still friends to this day,

      So Delicia after some digging we found out that if the Marshmallow is left long enough it will eventually pop and deflate. Here is a hand link to our colleagues at The Exploratorium in San Francisco looking at the science of this, but make sure your you heed their warning and don't do any experiments of your own without the help of an adult. www.exploratorium.edu/cooking/candy/activity-mallows.html

      samroogers Silverware should be fine although some would generate arcs and sparks which could start a fire. Other than that, say, a stainless steel spoon will only heat up to be very hot but won't start a fire unless it is in contact with a fuel source.

    the metal bit is wrong, while sparks can be produced, they will never damage the oven, instead, the metal wil heat up very fast and burn anything it touches

      KING there is nothing to burn in a microwave, what they saw wasnt fire and stopped as soon as they stopped the microwave

    • @jhsevs
      @jhsevs 8 років тому +1

      Currents are induced into the metals. Since the only resistance in the metals only depends on the resistivity on the metals itself, the current that is induced gets very high, it's basically a short. This creates uncontrolled heat, which in turn heats itself and whatever around it very fast. the metals inside of the oven are galvanically separated, so therefore the microwaves electromagnetic heating element or any other part of the electrical system should't get any damage. What's possible though, is that whatever you put into the oven can get hot and either cause excess pressure or burn marks etc.
