My Dada used to tell us kids he saw Rafi Sahib cut hair in a saloon in Anarkali bazaar Lahore. Dada said Rafi Sahib was a young boy and his father used to beat and stop his singing and focus on cutting hair. Then Dada said we came to know the boy went to Bombay and we heard him on radio as Rafi. He said we used to crowd outside the shop to hear the young boy sing. We kids used to hear all this in disbelief. God bless his soul. Ameen.

Thank you brother Rahul, now here's my 2 cents: This is a story I have heard from my friend's wife, I live in the US, she was a Ph.D student in the U.S. and also a great Pianist herself, once told me that her father was a musician who played in an orchestra or ensemble for many of the well known playback singers of that time, and knew many of them. She told me that her father said Rafi Sahab was the among the nicest and kindest persons he knew in the industry, don't remember her exact words, but needless to say her father was all high praise for Rafi Sahab.
