These are perfectly fine, I put something similar on my Silverado 2 years ago. It just makes it look so much nicer than a rusting pile of poop that leaves bits behind every time you close the door.
Great thorough video but you nailed it earlier in the video about rambling on. Way yoo much rambling especially at first we dint need but once you got started it was great. Good job. Not trying yo criticize just being honest. The video was really good. Thank you.
Great video. This era F150 was reliable, u see a ton with 300k miles still running perfect. That said I just bought a '14 with 43k miles on it. Switched from a newer truck cuz Im sick of auto start/stop, turbos, AFM/MDS, eyesight, etc. Even got the little NA 3.7 and dont miss the crazy torque of turbos. I was looking at these as preventive protection, but I might just do the rust encapsulating rubberized paint inside/underneath rockers instead cuz mine has zero rust yet and want to keep it awhile
You got that right. Even the trucks that are well kept and everything seem to all have the rocker issues and cab corner issues. Doesn’t mean the truck is a rust bucket, my frame still has nice black paint on it….. just a cheap option that fits and works great
@@FIRENICEWOLF if you don’t want it to be a show truck it’s a no brainer. For me for everyday driving this will make the truck last years and look excellent.
I got the '13 FX4, white as well, 275000km and the rust on white looks terrible. These look great, give me another 5 years. Ontario weather and the tonnes of salt sucks. Thanks for the video
Thanks I have a 2011 crewcab it's not bad with minimum rust or body damage but I think if I do this now would help me prolongation truck appearance and value. It has 137000 original miles 1 owner. I'm the 2nd owner. Very nice, so I want to keep it nice rust free as much as possible. Thank you for the video and name of the product.
What causes the cab corners and rockers to rust out is cargo light gasket leaks. The corners of the gasket tare when they are installed. The water runs down the pinch weld above the back window and puddles in the cab corners and rockers. Just remove the cargo light and put a 1/4 inch foam seal on the roof side and it will stop the water intrusion. 😅
I have heard that. As well as sunroof drains go straight to cab corners. I never got any water intrusion up there though. I did reseal it and check, this was just harsh canadian winters….
Nicely Done, excellent all the way around. I guess my concerns with these would be cracking either from your feet stepping in or out, or rocks/debris from the road, then the rust problem starts again. A major concern would be how these will keep water from seeping in, especially the front door panel at the aft of the door. A seam is facing up, usually you have something over the seam so water cant get into it, with these that seam is over the original metal between the doors. I dont see how the adhesive holds up, especially in areas with winters and freezing. #M makes great stuff but I cant see this holding up to heat, cold, freezing, flexing and such. Same for the bottom underneath where you put rivets. I dont see how this can be water proof. The plastic to old rustic metal frame is not perfect mating surfaces and adhesive being just a thin glue is not a filler. No disrespect to your excellent job and tutorial, I'd just be worried about water getting in in a year or possibly less. Perhaps theres is some sort of filler/bonding agent that can be put between t \he panels and the body? Great video thought, thanks.
I would put some clear silicone on the cracks where the rocker meets cab but question fluid film isn't always gana last so isn't the parts you left uncut gana rust how long is this really gana last
Great Video! Nice work getting that problem solved I have a 2007 lincoln navigator with same issues, they don't have these kits for them seems like a good fix
My 06' has rust starting at the rockers near the bottom of thr tore wells. I would prefer to cut and weld but maybe cutting out the Rust, mitigating it with inhibitors and doing the plastic over it would be best. I just don't know if they'd have all of what i need
Looking at some 09-14 F150 SuperCabs from rusty places like Kansas and Nebraska and Missouri and they all have that rocker panel rust...but they're cheap...and I'm cheap...and THESE are cheap compared to say LMC metal ones...definitely gonna look into this option if I bring one of them back to Oklahoma, since it probably won't rust MORE once it's down here in the red dirt.
I'm impressed with plastic rockers.. that being said, I'd panel bond them instead of two sided tape.. panel bond is a way better way to go... the tape just seems hokey
You got that right. The thing is the truck isn’t very old yet. However these things rot out sometimes in like 3-4 years. It’s not a show truck so it don’t have to be perfect. For the price and fit and finish they are great.
That's a shame it's already rusting being not that old. I've noticed on my 2012 it has spot's under the bottom lip on the edge of the cab where mud can build up. On mine I get under and pressure wash it really good every couple months, then I spray used oil in those area's. It's a dirty job but so far I don't have rust.
I wonder if you could spray a rust converter up in and all around the area after cutting it out and pressure washing? Then, let dry again, and apply rust bullet or similar product. Then apply grease like in this video. Then glue on the covers? Thx
I strongly recommend fix it right weld in new metal....! Don't mess around doing this! Spend the money 💰 and do it right it will last a long time on the right way of doing doing this.....
It all depends on the value of the truck. Spending $3,000-$4,000 to have metal replacements put on and painted, doesn't make a bit of sense at all on a cheap $5,000, $6,000, $7,000 truck. There's an saying, "Don't Throw Good Money After Bad". These are a good cheap cosmetic fix for a cheap truck. Now, if the truck is worth $20,000 or more, I'm 💯 with you on Spending the money and welding on new metal.
I just pack my rust spots with packing grease or assembly gr,ease on my wheel well arches, and spray the fuck out of back side and outer side with NH oil or fluid film to stop it from going further, but I do agree the right way is better, this seems very bad idea, like you can seal it off with auto body panel bonding epoxy they use these days for body panels on the newer vehicles, and seal it off with auto motive caulk, or rtv, but still may not be a great idea.
Yep. Horrible design. My buddy bought one new, a very very meticulous man and he had to get his all replaced. Was washed, oiled every year and still happened.
@@Schneids15 I am debating doing this or doing the replace no weld method. I don't mind this method for cost wise but the seam kinda bothers me. Makes me wonder if water will roll into the double sided tape and loosen it up?

Exceptional lesson. Perfect for my situation. Do you think the plastic will crack or get a hole from road debris hitting in the areas where the metal was cut out behind?

I'm about to do this and it looks like there is significant rust on those two edges and I'm concerned about not having any material to rivet the quick covers to.
I have been told that those are not a fix for provincial safety inspection acceptance as only welded metal is acceptable, even on vehicles with a real frame. After being told that these are not an on road legal solution in Atlantic Canada, I am searching for another solution as only the under side of my rockers (inches below the doors) are rotted.
This seems odd because I have heard a lot of people getting safety’s done with them. People will fill them full of spray foam and paint them and that passes.

Agree 100%, doing it this way you now have plastic where water will get trapped and rot out the metal that is there.
It all depends on the value of the truck. Spending $3,000-$4,000 to have metal replacements put on and painted, doesn't make a bit of sense at all on a cheap $5,000, $6,000, $7,000 truck.
