- Ras Kass on how he helped Eminem before he blew up and how Eminem said he was going to put him on his debut album but didn't.
Ive met ras kass on 2 occasions. At a alkaholiks show and at a psycho realm show and he showed me love without knowing him and treated me like he knew me for years. Ras kass is as humble as they come. Nothing but love for him
Much love homie
Yes sir ! I saw him in a liquor store right off the 210 in LosAngeles , and I said to him , yo Ras when your next album coming out ?! He turned around and just started talking like we’re still working on it , but soon ! I’m trying to let him go on about his day because his dudes are already getting in the car and he’s just talking like we haven’t seen each other in a while . Respect . Btw ? That was in the mid to late 90s
@Charlie Manson lmao tf. Take ur hating bitch made ass somewhere else.

Eminem is trash rap
100% truth. Helping someone doesn’t mean they’ll return the favor. Life lesson.

Absolute Truth!
Yea even tho they promised they would. Don't leave that part out buddy.
YESSS BIG TAKE💯💯💯
What's the solution? Just not help ppl? Cuz some ppl will help you.. I do agree that you shouldn't EXPECT it.
One of the most skilled rappers of All-time.
Based on what ? Vocab ? (And i bought his 1st album in the 90s)
Never heard a single song from him lol
@@OnlyUknow2 only commercial song I like from him is "lapdance".
He's known for "nature of the threat"
@@OnlyUknow2 You're lost in the game my friend.

Ras aint lying. I did a show with him in Dubuque, Iowa, and fam was as genuine and humble as he is sitting here telling you. He even came back to the homies house and kicked it with no problem. I'll NEVER forget that. Legendary!
OH SHIT BLACK PEOPLE IN IOWA.? JK
I respect the fact that he don’t let anyone doing wrong to him won’t make him somebody he isn’t. I’m from Detroit and Em is my favorite but to see anyone from anywhere in the world being who they are and staying who they are I love it.
@@BlackinVegas Lmao! You'll definitely be surprised. In there deep too.
Damn. Imagine if The Slim Shady LP had a song with Ras Kass and Redman on it?
SSLP was the most “hip hop” Em has ever sounded. He still has the underground influence within him. Would’ve been a dope addition to have those features.
Bananas!!! It would have elevated it no doubt. Biggie and Meth 1st album style.
nah why would the whyte boy do that he wouldn't have got his shine the world would've known where he got his style from...he didnt want that...EM just another colonliser

FACTS
Only lyircally cause production sucks unfortunately. Rass needs dope producers mane then it will be pure classic.
@@dariuszkopec2567 the production was tight. what beats are u exactly talking about?
Ras Kass is a straight up legend! Sucks about what happened between him and Slim. The real heads know about Ras and his brilliance.

Ras kass is a legend to me , Def a lyricist from the era of real hip hop.
He s one of many that people don't discuss when it comes to lyricism. Highly slept on.

Somebody please tell Ras-Kass that he doesn't have to explain his skill level. His fans are Grown grown.
Exactly, Mr Ras Kass is on point, you may not like an artist but you can't take away their skills.... They're plenty of artist that has skills that I dont care for, but if you're talented, aint no one can take it away from you.....
Salute 2 Ras Kass 4 being A solid real dude and 4 not being superficial, phony, fake or a hater! And when u do good deeds ur planting good seeds (no worries) it comes back around 👍🏾
I believe him. Dudes be changing once they get on but mostly because of the industry telling them not to reach back.
Not just music biz but in life as well. U can be loyal as fuck, help somone and that mf can STILL forget or stab u in ya back
👍🏾
Or could be a different reason, em did a lot of songs with underground artists when got on
Can't expect everyone that makes it to always go back and help every single person that did something for them in some way. List of ppl would be too long for some artists
The list of signed rappers that put him on an album before he was on isn’t long.
Rasskass is an artist who changed people’s prospective of west coast hip hop. He’s a living legend.
Much Props to Ras Kass, His love for rhyming and flowing on beats are quite legit, he loves rap/hip hop as a hardworking but a humble way of life.

Rass Kass-soul on ice 🧊 is my favorite hip hop album in the 90s
Met Ras Kass at a small Jamo Gang show a few years back. Told him how important his skill set and insightful teaching in his art meant to me. He was really engaging one on one talking hip hop and surprisedly even remembered my name a couple hours later. Much respect.
Rass always has Soul on Ice, that was a classic album and thank you for passing your gift to your sons in Coast Contra.
That Nature of the Threat! 🔥
Rass Kass is one of the most prolific writers in the history of this culture! “Nature of the Threat” and “Interview with the Vampire” are 2 of the most intellectually stimulating songs in the history of hip hop! Period!
Nature of the Threat had me reading mad books back in the day!
@@BigHack4ya bro me too. Because of this song I read about the Nicene creed, the black Grimaldi man, scientific racism, Spartacus slave rebellion, Arthur Schopenhauer, saturnalia and so much more than I did not ever know about. Things I wasn’t taught in school. I didn’t know that the Spaniards were conquered by the Muslims. I learned that from listening to this song. I’m telling you, this song changed my life.
Nah go listen to “Rage” by Trippie Redd or “Roll In Peace” by Kodak Black. That’s hip hop!
@@miquearre1776 wow bro✌✌✌🤝🤝🤝🖕💕😤
@@miquearre1776 The fact that this man wrote those songs way back in the mid-90s and most of us didn't start getting on to a lot of what he was talking about until the Hidden Colors documentaries and well off into the social media era solidifies him EASILY as one of the god emcees of this shit.....

the honesty is clear. and who wouldn't want to hear a Ras Kass and Eminem track or many?!
What a great human being this man is.
Fuegoooo interview... and Yes I believe you should on his next album...... Barss
He's telling the truth about not being a hater. I opened up for Ras twice. Once in South Central when he was still being managed by Coolio and once in Vegas. He went out of his way to come up to us both times and tell us how dope he thought we were and he didn't do this with everybody who performed. I can recall PLENTY of other rappers who went out of their way to do the opposite.
Eminem loves Ras though. In those early days, it might not have been up to Eminem to get Ras on the album. I'm sure Dre and Jimmy had a lot of control on those first 2 albums.
I'd bet that's exactly what happened. And it was the right call. Love Ras, but his career was stuck in the mud by that time. Aftermath/Interscope had nothing to gain by allowing a random Ras Kass feature on a breakout artists debut project.
of course
@@MichaelBrown-ti1un to be fair on the second album he did feature rbx and sticky fingaz. rbx was dormant at the time and sticky was trying to gain traction as a solo act. neither one went on to make a huge impact. so ras could’ve gotten in there somewhere 😂
It couldve been the break needed to get Ras over the hump. Because he had the talent, plus hes a LA dude, you'd think Dre would vouch for him.
@@illuminatigbeats1397 you make really good points here. I think Em did a feature on Stick's album, so maybe it was a swap? Then again, Sticky said in a recent interview that Remember Me was originally recorded for The Chronic 2001, which kinda makes sense. Sonically, that record fits 2001. The RBX feature was very random. X had a relationship with Dre since the Death Row days, so maybe that's how that came about.
Ras Kass is a legendary lyricist! This is a dope AF story to about late 96 early 97 to late 98 Slim Shady story! Real recognize real!
When I was a kid I’d fall asleep to Miami Life. Kept that on repeat. 🔥🔥
I used that beat on a mixtape, that song was sick
“Walk these streets with more heat than Alonzo Mourning". I'm down south and that song had me and my cousin waiting for that video to come on like we were waiting for Michael Jackson. Underrated classic?!!! 🏆

Lesson is you can't expect you from other people.
That's some real shit. That kinda reminds of the saying " Don't send anyone to do anything you wouldn't do yourself".
@@BlackMusicGenre I wouldn't cause people are dumb
words of fucking wisdom
Sometimes in the industry people talk about what they can do but you find out years later the label made a lot of calls for their project. Interscope might have had a marketing strategy where they really wanted to focus on Em. So instead of hitting Rass and explaining that to him he might just moved on. On Em's first album the only other person to be on a song besides Dre was Royce.
But they might have said "we have to have someone from Detroit so we can pull that home crowd. But Eminem is a position now to put whoever he wants on his album. So if he respects Ras as an MC and knows he looked out for him and he made that promise, then he can put him on a track for his next album.
that song that em and royce did was recorded before em got with dre but on a diff beat.. em wanted to use the song for the album so they re-recorded it to a new beat with some changes to the lyrics
@@Fatalflawtv Oh well maybe that's one of the songs Dre heard that made him want to sign him.
@@1tmproductions nope Dre heard the slim shady ep...that song wasn't on there. alot of songs from his first album were recorded before he got wit dre and he just rerecorded them on new beats.. the originals are on youtube
yeah I mean he wanted Redman to be on the album and Redman didnt end up on it, so possibly Interscope / Aftermath had other plans for Em
Could we please get Eminem and Ras Kass with Redman on a song ?

Em is a humble dude
Thank you for sharing the story
Maybe the 1st album, but what about the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th albums etc.
Sounds like a bunch of excuses...
Noooo. Em was raised by the Outsidaz. As soon as he got his major deal, he dumped them and never gave them anything. None of his white fans have ever even heard of them. They're more talented than him (like Ras Kass) and Em's jealous and scared, just like any other phony.
How do you know he's humble?
Not really because he never collaborate with them or try to build with them but he isn't the only MC that does that shit
Ras Kass is such a humble guy and obviously a great artist....but god damn it takes so long for him to tell a story
Ras Kass SOUL ON ICE is a classic!!!!!!!!
You can see the hurt in his eyes at the end, sad man... He loved Em
I knew it. Em went from sounding like Nas to Ras Kass. I was around then. His flow changed after 96 when Ras Kass's "Miami Life" was out. Em's 1st album infinite was the same year but he hadn't Shang Tsung'd that style yet. Btw, Em is one of the greatest of all time to this day IMO.

Telling some people at a rap show “yo that dude is good af” isn’t helping them get on lmfao
it does tho, word spreads and Jimmy got a copy of the ssep and brought it to Dre. things were different back then word of mouth was huge for anything and everything. nowdays the internet is crucial enough people have a bad experience they type a review which effects people and businesses. just like word of mouth back before the internet is what it is today. it's like when 10 people say this movie is good 4 people say its alright and 5 people say it sucked your interest is peaked to make your own opinion. ras saying Eminem is dope whether they believed him or not they were interested to see how he spits some may have agreed after hearing him some may have not but enough word got around he still got signed and the rest is history.
