Cosmetics are absolutely optional and anybody who says differently is being dramatic. That being said something was lost in gaming as a whole when we began monetizing skins as opposed to having them be locked behind in-game achievements.
Yeah, but this also allows for awesome skins that normally wouldn’t be in the unblockables. Like the cool colabs or new mythics. But that being said, yes 100% skins are absolutely optional, a lot of the baseline skins are dope already.
Coming into OW2 I had most of the skins in the game. Now I’ve taken a different approach. Unlike in OW where I wanted even Torb or Sym skins even though I don’t play them, now I just try to go for skins that actually look cool for heroes I actually use.
Agree with the first half but the second half is where you are applying it, if you mean games that have a full game price tag on them then yes (jrpgs do this a lot) but if you mean like live service then that is normal cause the games tend to be free on base and need someway to make income which tend to be skins/season passes etc (league/fortnite/overwatch). Of course I'm excluding how much they wanna monetize cause some games go overbored in prices of skins.
i dont think thats what that hot take meant, they meant that SOME people dont see them as optional as they are obsessed with cosmetics, not that they arent optional at all.
Hot take: Brig would have been much easier to balance on release if shield bash and whipshot had opposite effects. Whipshot being a stun wouldn’t have been as frustrating since it’s a smaller hit box and an actual skill shot, and shield bash as a knock back still would have been a great tool against dive without being super oppressive like her original stun was. Plus, it just makes more sense that throwing your entire weight and hitting someone with a giant shield would push them away, and knocking someone over the head with a flail would daze them.
The biggest issue with Brig wasnt that stuff though. Yes the stun was part of it, but it was her healing, and ult that were the issue. Though I'm not big on the ranged stun part, it being a skillshot wouldn't have made everything else easier to balance. Her ult still gave non fading, stacking armor. She still didn't huge ape passive healing, and all of this before role queue was a thing.
Hot take: KarQ is completely misunderstanding what a "hot take" is by ranking whether or not he agrees with a take as it being hot or not. That's not what a take being hot means!
@@Dovakinskywalkeru can't say that "most of the fanbase" agree or at the very least have similar sentiments without some form of statistic. It's not a good metric. It's a flawed one
@@ace2311 luckily being scientifically accurate has no impact whatsoever, and it's just a video about discussing players ideas and how the streamer feels about them
8:05 hot take: people grinding OW out of their minds and complaining nonstop about the game need to take a break and just *stop* thinking about overwatch for a while. And I mean weeks/months. I'm a tried and true qp warrior and can confirm that yes, I still really enjoy the game! I have about 220 hours in competitive and have hit grandmaster on support, competed in OWCS (karq + friends stomped my team tho lol), but compared to my 1700 hours in qp, 200 comp hours is pretty insignificant. I play the game because I have fun; if it's not fun I stop playing for a while and come back a few weeks/a month later, whenever I get the itch to play again. duo with a friend and come up with some ridiculous strategies to try to execute in a match. make that cheesy flank play just for fun. even if you die. laugh about it. If you "hate" the game, try playing OW in more moderation and maybe you'll find yourself in my shoes having fun again :) stay silly, fellow qp warriors 🫡
Hot take: The quick play ban situation is dumb; why would you punish people for wanting to simply warm up or playing casually and leaving the game? Especially if it affects you ability to queue for ranked
Because you're ruining it for 4 other people. Honestly, it should be extended to vs. AI. A 4 v 5 match is inherently one-sided meaning that the game people intended to play is not the one they're getting because of you. They didn't sign up for 4 v 5. If you want to full on goof around, do it with friends in a custom game where everyone signed up for it. There's a difference between not going meta in qp and not trying. Not trying is not fun for the other people in the game. If you want to not try, do it in a custom game where people know that's what they're signing up for.
Hot take: Scoreboard stats should be hidden in Quick Play until after the match (in replays) and doing so would help fix how toxic/sweaty QP has become. Allow people to just have fun or learn new heroes without their performance being constantly judged.
Scoreboard feels worse in comp when people are taking it more seriously and sees it only as individual performances and not a collective effort. Only value scoreboard have for me is a defence from being flamed.
7:30 the problem is there are a lot of players (myself included) who don’t have a lot of time each week to play, but want to maximize our experience when we are playing. The weekly challenges all pretty much say that you get double progression for winning games. So if I want to get as much battle pass XP in as little time as possible then I need to be playing in such a way that gets through as many weekly challenges as possible in every game. That means that if I don’t really put in effort into QP games then I have to play twice as many of them to complete the challenges. And if I play comp then depending on what game mode I get the games themselves take 2-3 times longer than a QP game. If they just cut the number of games required in half then removed the “double progress for wins” then it would completely eliminate the urge to be sweaty in QP.
I think in general, people SHOULD be sweaty in QP. You signed up for a 5 v 5 fight - take it seriously. I'm not saying champion meta seriously, but every character should be playing to win. If not, don't sign up. Go play custom games.
6:48 So here's the problem with dailies: If a DPS player gets something like "win 3 games as tank" as a daily, they're playing tank out of *obligation* rather than enjoyment. They want to knock out their 3 tank games as fast as humanly possible so they can get back to having fun. Losing sucks normally, but that's OK if you were enjoying yourself and playing to have fun. Losing a game you're playing out of obligation doubly sucks because you've "wasted" the time it took to play the last match doing something you fundamentally don't enjoy because the game is dangling a carrot in your face. OF COURSE this makes people in quick play sweatier and more toxic, they don't actually want to be there... and with the tank population in the state that it's in chances are that this is the position your tank is in when you get into quick play!
Hot take: Metal players should all one trick (or 2 character at max). 9/10 times you're at low elo because you suck at either: CD usage, positioning, target priority, reading your oponents/the flow of the match or awareness. All skills that are harder to learn if you don't have a solid understanding of you're character. You will maybe lose more games on the short term, but you will learn a LOT from it.
onetricking Ball is the only reason I've achieved a higher understanding of the game. My timing, trigger discipline, game sense, and map knowledge has skyrocketed compared to where i was a couple years back from one tricking hampter. I literally got hackusated on Ball yesterday because I anticipated where a Sombra would be and boop one-clipped her out of stealth
honestly a lot metal ranks have been stuck there for years, its not a lack of understanding of characters holding them back, its their personal skill level hitting their own skill ceiling, some people just dont have the capability to get that high and thats okay.
Can't tell you how many times I've seen someone swap heroes to something they obviously can't play because it's a counter, or good for a particular map. It's the player not the pick.
@@Subzerd For me in support role, I've gotten to diamond multiple times then they do rank resets and they always toss me back in gold. I've even had bronze players in my games when I was plat for example. I just think the ranking system kind of sucks and it's caused me to not care over the years. I obviously try when I'm in a game but there's no way to climb imo. Even my friend who is way newer to the game has fluctuated between bronze, silver, and gold.
Hot Take: People having "mains" in overwatch (and as an extension games in general) is far less common than it is made out to be. Overwatch is a game that is all about variety, and everyone I know who plays it have multiple favorite characters to play as across every role.
I main Sombra and Ashe for Damage, but I play multiple heroes in the role. Same with supports. I can play almost all supports effectively, but I main Ana. You can main a hero but also be able to flex to other heroes when needed.
If the ratio between your #1 most-played hero and #2 most-played hero isn't a fraction less than 1.5, you have a main. Most people I know have a ratio of like 2:1 or 5:1 or 10:1 from their #1 to #2 hero. That's a main by definition.
For those saying the PvE was not fun, it would be fun if we have skill trees and being able to upgrade our heroes. Look at tf2’s MvM. It has upgrade stations, you can do different builds, and you get big cosmetic rewards after finishing.
The PvE point is basically pointless because the actual PvE they announced back in 2019 would've been way different than those three missions they released.
what was exciting about PvE was the fact that the characters that brought us all to the game to begin with were actually going to be getting a story that wasn’t “here’s a video of what they did in the past.” plus, the skill trees would’ve been a great way to explore the heroes we already know and love in new ways that can’t happen in PvP
Hot take: Cosmetics are only optional if players actually have the option to customize when they want how they want to. 99% of new cosmetics are unobtainable through gameplay. If I want to customize my character but I no longer have the option available to me unless I open my wallet, that's no longer an "Option" that's an "Ultimatum"
It is 100% a shittier choice to have to make, going from the old system of being able to grind for coins to buy any skins vs. now where some skins are payment-only, but they are still functionally optional. Some people have terrible impulse control or will feel compelled to buy every single skin out of a compulsion to be a 100% collector of f cosmetics. Video game companies 100% know they’re exploiting people who can’t help themselves, that’s their target audience with mandatory limited time pay-only skins.
ultimatum: a demand whose fulfillment is requested in a specified period of time and which is backed up by a threat to be followed through in case of noncompliance a price tag isn't an ultimatum. it's still an option. you have the option to buy or not. blizzard isn't going threatening you if you don't buy a skin. you may just have compulsive tendencies that make you more vulnerable to FOMO but it is still optional
@@Lee-fw5bd "give us a ridiculous amount of your money or you won't be able to access majority of the customization content the game has to offer from now on" doesn't sound like an option to me. I can choose not to give in to this demand, but the effects are very bad for me as a result, it literally makes me enjoy the game less = it's an ultimatum. A real "option" doesn't have adverse effect whichever option you choose.
Wanted to be virtually clothed is an option. Skins weren't even really a thing back in the beginning. It's just that Blizzard figured out that people would pay out the wazoo for them and started charging for them. Same in HotS, same in WoW.
Hot take: you don't play AI mode enough. I understand it's AI, but as someone who never liked overwatch to start, AI has help me get into and start understanding the more simple Overwatch basics. No it doesn't help against the potential Unpredictably of real players but it gives you muscle memory and some basic positioning knowledge.
I think people underestimate how many people actually play AI. It's a lot. I've played probably 1000 hours of AI and I met the same people like maybe 50 times. It's a large queue base.
Hot take: Anas nade disabling healing is bad game design and should be changed. In a game where an important pillar is support and healing having an ability on a relatively short cooldown that can completely disable it feels unjust and depending on your composition forces you to swap unless you want to be at a huge disadvantage. Similar scenarios was how sombra in ow1 could completely turn off someone’s ability’s for prolonged periods of time and it didn’t feel right so they changed it for ow 2. A much better design would be to reduce healing rather than completely disable it and then buff Anas kit in other ways if she falls behind
Hot take: if you're a competitive player you should hold your expectations about your teammates. Especially in lower ranks they WILL make mistakes and it's up to you to take this in consideration while planning your moves
I agree, especially when you solo-queue. You can’t control how other people use their mouse+keyboard/controller, so focus on what you can personally control about the match, and make the best of your situation
You should be able to control yourself especially if you can’t afford it. That would be like asking stores to not sell products when you’re broke cause they’re tempting you too hard. You’re own inability to not be financially responsible is not anyone else’s problem.
@@SocialExperiment232 It's everyone's problem. Especially since Blizzard insisted they needed to move to 5v5 (which half the community seems to hate) in a supposed sequel with the justification that it would have robust PVE soo all this was necessary, which then got cancelled, which defeats the entire purpose of all these changes apart from giving them an excuse to implement the hyper-predatory money store. "Oh just don't buy it." Then why the hell are you still playing this game? 90 percent of the appeal is the cool-looking-shit. You must be absolutely miserable if you're just playing the game and spending no money on it whatsoever.
@@Xiatter 90% of the appeal of a fun, fast paced hero shooter with 50 characters for you is the skins?!?!?Then you’re not a gamer you’re a frustrated fashion designer. Unlike you I can actually afford to spend 15-20 bucks every now and then. If spending a few bucks here and there would put you into ruin you need to be looking for a better job not playing games. Not everyone wants 6v6. Plenty of people hated double tanks and would never want that back but dramatic ow players think they’re the only opinion in the world. You yourself said half which is not true but even if it was you’re basically saying only the half that agrees with you matters and the other one doesn’t lol. I’m pretty sure most people prefer 5v5 and it will only take a few days for people to realize once they try it out.
@@Xiatter hahahaha 90% of the appeal is the skins?!?!?! You’re not a gamer. You’re a frustrated fashion designer. Pardon me but I play video games for the video games. Not the characters outfits 😭🤣😭🤣
@@SocialExperiment232 So you do buy the skins. So you enjoy spending half what Overwatch 1 cost on one thing that mostly other people will see, apart from your hands and maybe your gun? You don't see the issue here? Or are you just simpling harder for Blizzard than even I, someone who still enjoys the game itself, do? I didn't say I can't afford the skins. But you defending them going from free if you earned them to almost $10 for something as basic as a recolor is a really fucking silly look if you think about it for two Seconds. Every skin they sell ought to allow is to recolor it however we like. Many RPGs do it AS A FEATURE.
I’m a QP warrior I quit comp after I hit GM in overwatch 1. I don’t play consistently as I used to, but whenever I do play, I have lots of fun and have no complaints about the game. Just bought the Le Sserafim skins and I’m having a blast playing sombra.
Hot take: Frogger is affecting negatively Lucio players that think that the important thing is doing kills and boops and end up contributing with 1~2k healing for the whole match. It's a disservice for the whole community. If you want to do kills, pick a DPS that have a much better output and doesn't make a single support deal with all the healing.
Movement=damage prevented. At least when people understand LOS, it doesn't show on a scoreboard like healing, but 1000s of damage over the match Is being avoided.
@@tinytimonfire Movement does not equal damage prevented unless the movement is so high to break tracking. Most hitscans can track a ball at full speed so you're not reducing the damage. The only scenario under which movement equals damage prevented is if you're LOS of the damage. But that only works if your team dives behind cover while being speed boosted. And when's the last time you saw that move? I've yet to see a speed-boosted Cass dive behind cover. I've seen them run towards the enemy team a lot faster 99.99999% of the time.
Personally, I didn't mind CC because of getting chain stunned, but more so because of its shut-down potential. It's good to have opportunities to cancel powerful abilities, but you shouldn't have to wait out or bait out 10 different cooldowns in order to ult.
Cosmetics are optional. I'm not gonna accept the premise that you "need" a skin because that's how we create early fortnite economies where having no skin was something to be ridiculed. That being said, yes cosmetics being paid content and virtually never being in game unlocks is embarrassing. Cosmetics sales should disproportionately go to paying the team artists. They deserve it and I'll gladly pay more in skins if I know the people working on it receive proper compensation or even crediting.
I feel bad for the person who likes cosmetics that he dunked on. As someone who played OW1 extensively I understand that mindset because it used to be a "collect everything of your favorite hero" and "log in every holiday and grind for skins". Now I don't touch the game unless I'm feeling some comp or friends want to play because there's nothing else to do. Making almost all the skins for pay only hurt players constantly coming back imho. Especially when the free ones usually aren't great looking. It's why they put gold coins in the battlepass now because battlepass seems worthless unless you buy it.
eh. nah. skins are optional. it's cool that you found skins to be the main reason you played the game, but that's very niche. it's kind of like saying that the custom game mode is a major reason for people to play. I'm sure it's a big deal for some but the "issue" isn't that custom game content is limited.
I've been playing since day 1 of overwatch's release and I can say with 1000% certainty that anyone who says skins are mandatory is a entitled child, I bet they have all the participation trophies too
@@Lee-fw5bd How is it "niche" when the whole game is about collectibles? You literally play the game and collect exp to unlock more collectables. They revolve every season around skin collabs and themes of what skins are coming out. We only get a new character every 2 seasons and other than that they don't add anything else to the game. It's just balance patches and the same gameplay for years.
@ohhello937 skins being the primary reason to play is niche because it's not very common. If it were, we wouldn't have a bunch of people complaining about ranked balance all the time bc they would just optimize for challenges that can be done in a few games a day. Don't need to play ranked for them either. People play the game bc of the gameplay. Skins are just a nice bonus to many and collecting all of them wouldn't cross the mind of the majority. There's not really an argument to be made on either side until blizzard comes out with data but saying that the game is purely based on collectibles is a very weird viewpoint to me. Definitely wouldn't call exp a collectable either but that's neither here nor there. I'd say that progression is at the forefront for many and the gameplay (that you seem to find stale) for most. Even if you find it stale, from a casual perspective, it is still quite fun imo
it’s not always console players complaining about sombra, sombra is problematic in lower rank in general. but she’s fine for the top 5% of players so she’s “balanced” Her CDs are way too short imo, it is way too easy for a sombra to get out, and she can engage too frequently
@@mickeyboy90 and there’s virtually no actual team work, awareness, and/or peel in metal ranks. which is why she controls lobbies. my point still stands
@@AthenasWrath22 i wasn’t arguing with u. I was saying its harder when ur teammates don’t help and aren’t as aware. If i were arguing i’d say maybe actually play the meta hero’s like bap/kiri/lucio/brig instead of mercy moira ana illiari. You usually have to communicate to your team when you need help and give them time to help you (dont fall over instantly) (or duo w ur other support/a dps and tell them when you need help) And maybe just learn how to play around a sombra by listening for her audio or guessing where she is likely to come out of invis from, play near cover and be selfish with your defensive cooldowns instead of wasting them to “save” ur team.
@@AthenasWrath22 to be fair sombra is a horribly designed character with boring counterplay: dont waste cooldowns, dont get 2v1’d, don’t be solo. Perma invis shouldnt ever have been a thing. You can 1v1 sombra on any good support and should be mentally prepared at all times to try to kill her if she engages on you. Because she is also a metal rank player and probably also makes mistakes too.
@@mickeyboy90 yeah that was kind of my point overall. i’ve heard from every top 500/GM player that sombra isn’t a problem and don’t think she needs to be changed. but perma invis is constant value for just existing, and trans-locator and hack are on way too short of a cooldown
lego bastion maestro sigma etc should have their events return. i have them personally but people really like those skins and preventing people from getting them because there event ended is annoying for them. - hot take
I think I missed the lego bastion by just a few months as I got the game in early 2020. I would love to see the events come back. especially for the sigma skin, which I have, as its one of sigmas only good skins
Hot take: Supports being scrappy and semi-DPS with a lot of skill expression is the right direction for the role. Kiri, lucio, ana, baptiste and illiari have a much more balanced and fun base kit, where their pain points are some broken abilities such as swift step, pylon, lamp, suzu or regenerative burst. Meanwhile mercy, lifeweaver or moira have very interesting and balances abilities (guardian angel, petal platform, fade...) but their base kit is terrible and a chore to play with. The former group of supports is much easier to balance while keeping them fun, while the latter is mostly hated and needs reworks.
This is a lukewarm take for sure. Also your examples aren't great..... Kiriko has a balanced kit? In what universe? She's been broken since her release. And Illiari has a fun kit? Obviously everyone has their opinions but Illiari probably has the most generic and 1 dimensional kit in the entire support role.
Hot take: mythic prisms taking up mulitple tiers is scummy, they are taking more content out of the BP. Mythic skins used to be a single tier, now it's like 6-7 tiers to be able to get a mythic
What you miss about your first answer is that tanks that wanna play with other tanks are going to play open queue, which is part of what decimates role queue times.
Cosmetics might be optional for you, but the predatory monetization isn't targeting the average player. These game companies are using well known psychological techniques to intentionally predate on people with addictive tendencies that can't impulse control. They know that a certain percentage of their base literally cannot say "No" and milk them for all they can. It's super scummy, and it's really sad that this is what the gaming industry has become.
So, you're saying we should pander to addicts? That's not how that works. Addicts should go to addiction therapy. Everyone can impulse control. If you struggle with it, avoid the situation - delete the game. Alcoholics can't have beer. The same is true for other addicts.
Hot take: ironically, 2cp would be better in OW2 especially since wave respawn is a thing. Maybe some of the maps need slight reworks on their first points but those can be done. With less turtle capabilities, an overall more brawl focused gameplay, and one less tank on the field, 2cp would be much less of waiting around for one or two big fights that win or loose you a point and more poking each other until you’re ready for a proper engage (or you get engaged by the enemy). If it fails everybody spawns together five seconds after your last support dies. They *just* won the point but now the entire team is alive again, grouped up and ready to retake the point from the defender’s side. Does it still suck? Probably a little, but it would be nowhere near as bad as it was in OW1.
6:30 they didn't move the model a "little bit" omg man. People could earn enough coins for a skin ANY skin they CHOOSE in a month. Now it takes half a year, if you don't use the coins up on the battlpass, which is just Blizzard handpicking what they want to give you. It's worse than random chance. "It's optional", so is car-tuning in a racing game, still everyone will miss it when they remove the option. If there are no skins that are earnable through gameplay, its basically no longer optional, I am no longer allowed to do it unless I open my wallet. That's not a CHOICE that's an ULTIMATUM
It’s worse than that because occasionally they drop skins that are ONLY obtainable with actual money regardless of how many coins you have (Moira skin for example)
Cosmetics are one of the biggest draws of Overwatch. The art team carries them, not the balance team or devs. The rate at which you earn skins for playing the game is way too low. Ow1 had it right with the lootboxes. Ow2 is designed to take away time from you living your real life and give you pretty much nothing unless you pay. I can’t believe people just accept that as the norm and actually argue that it’s ok, karQ…
I wish people understood that some people don't care for grinding ranked and the only thing left to work for are skins. If you took ranked mode away, a lot of players would say there's nothing left to do in the game. Well, if you take away my skins, there's nothing left for ME to do either.
About the weekly challenges: I play those just to "challenge" myself, forcing me to get out of my comfort zone and try heroes or roles I play less often. The point system just adds some freedom (and constraints) about trying one challenge instead of another. And I don't even do much with the gains, it's just a game thing to accumulate (XP, coins, whatever)
Anyone that says the PVE wasn't fun doesn't understand that the PvE we got wasn't the PvE we were promised. If Blizzard paid the employees that were working on it, we would have gotten a better PvE
I wouldn't say the lack of fun was due to the devs not being paid for their work (though with how Blizzard is known for treating their employees, I wouldn't be surprised if they were being underpaid). However, a lot of the really interesting features, like ability reworks (which are slowly being reused in limited time gamemodes like April fools) were already developed. I'd say PvE we got wasn't interesting because a huge majority of the interesting components got scrapped, or the staff (artists, lead narrative designers) got laid off, meaning it never had much of a chance to get any better. The 3 missions we got were finished aaaaages ago and were only a tiny sliver of what was to actually come
@@pebl7735 The 3 missions we got were pale shadows of what we were promised as a whole. Blizzy made everyone that was working come back from working from home, fired anyone that didn't, these were employees that were going to deliver the entirety of the PvE we were being promised, without them to finish it, their work was chopped up and frankenstined into the small droplets of Events and missions we were given instead. If those that were working on it were left to their own devices, we would have been given the PvE we were promised. What we got was garbage because it was unfinished, so anyone saying it was ass never got to see what it was supposed to be. Anyone saying that what we got was bad, so it's good we never got more, is ignoring the fact that we would have gotten better if Blizzy didn't destroy the team working on it, either by not paying them enough or firing them or by diverting manpower to elsewhere for whatever reason. It was bad because it wasn't finished or tended to by the ones that were working in it.
PvE can be fun - but you have to ask PvE players. KarQ and most of the people in this forum are pvpers. Ask the 1000 hour vs. ai person if they would replay a PvE scenario and I'm sure you'll get a different answer. Especially if it had its own leveling system (like they promised).
@@MrBrock314 Nothing wrong with your statement, but you're only looking at it from the perspective of what we got and what we usually got, short, limited time missions that you do one or two things for a scenario, not an entire game designed with more expansive things like we were promised. The PvP players would have different opinions if what we got was better and closer to what was promised, but that's a side of the bridge we will never get to see. I just wish people understood that just because what we got was garbage, doesn't mean what we were promised, what people like me still want, would have been much better. Again tho, that's not something that we are going to get, I just want more respect on the idea of what we wanted, what we were promised.
Hot take: Comp should introduce a "vote team MVP" option at the end of a game. Make is so you can't vote for friends, but being rewarded with a 20% SR protection or boost would incentivise positive comms give reason to try harder in uphill games to be voted MVP. I think you would have to limit this to below GM to stop people gaming top 500, but if someone plays out of their mind in a game, were positively coming and non toxic, I want to reward them
Hot take: Abilities should NEVER be locked out by any hero (except Sombra) because it removes a lot of the fun of counterplay. Aside from Sombra because a lot of her ult's value is as a shutdown tool, things like Zarya's ult should not lock out things like reaper's fade, and Mauga's ult should not lock out Juno or Echo's flying (where are they gonna go anyway lol). Overwatch is fun because there is always something you can do and to take away abilities that can be useful in these situations is like telling a farmer to plant a crop and then setting his shed on fire.
HOT TAKE: Well not specific to OW2, but I been playing since 2016. I’ve always felt like Widow didn’t fit well into the game. Some maps aren’t big enough for a “traditional” sniper. Although I don’t feel the same way about Hanzo and Ashe. They fit well into the game for me
Not every hero is meant to be strong on every single map. Every hero is considered in some sense when maps are designed, but making a map in which every single hero is equally as viable is impossible
Hot Take: Mei should’ve gotten the same treatment as Doom going into Ow2; her ‘freeze’ cc was core to her character and all of her abilities are already good for tanking, she’d just need a health and hitbox increase
8:36 truth, I’ve pretty much been playing mystery heroes 85% of the time since the final few comp seasons of ow1…. And I still got nothing but love for it
Hot Take: The Devs should make an entire season dedicated to the Overwatch 2 Heroes (everyone from Sojourn to Juno), where everything in the Battlepass and Shop (or at least just the Battlepass) would be purely for the new Heroes introduced during Overwatch 2.
Same, It’s so much harder playing with high sensitivity on console. Using only your thumb vs your entire arm is the difference. I don’t even turn to look at sombras anymore, I just stay near cover.

i dont disagree with this take but the examples are bad. pharah gets a ridiculous amount of free value without having any skill just by spamming chokes. kinda same for junk but at least he has to account for his arc and bounces rather than just shooting a straight shot giant explosive from ridiculously far away
@@kingmoosh2004 I feel like i can somewhat understand this but god it is incredibly easy to realistically counter a pharah, especially in high elo, only time where its not is if its pharmercy, but mercy is garbage anyways so thats not as big of a problem. I feel like complaints about spamming down chokes with either junk any other characters r just kinda useless, realistically its a niche playstyle and in high elo doesnt get enough value on its own, its usually only used to stomp low elo bc they dont know how to move out of the way of junk shots or how to focus down a flying pharah
Balancing for console separately could be doable, since console and pc players have separate ranked pools, you could balance both separately. To properly integrate this you would have to separate PC and console for every other game mode, which could make some less popular game mode queue times are crazy.
Hot take: As a sombra main, I find it fun to play against sombra when I play support. I don’t know if it’s because I can predict them or what? The only time I don’t like going against a sombra is if I am also sombra because then I’m pressured to do better than her. I think Sombra is a fun hero to fight, coming from a sombra and support main. :)
Hot take: sombra dps is fine, it has a "skill" check to hit virus, and requires some aim, its the permanant invis that takes less that a second to come in and out of, so take a page from team fortress 2 spy, have her decloak have a audible noise and take around 2 seconds (and turn it back to a toggle), that way she doesnt just pop out of nowhere delete a support then dip, she shows up, has to be stealthy for a few seconds then delete a support
Sombra was never supposed to be a burst-damage character, but now she effectively is. Virus isn't even a short-range projectile. And her gun...how many killcams I've watched where the Sombra player waves the crosshair in my general direction, barely touching me, yet I melt away as if it were locked on to my face. It's really stupid, and oppressively un-fun to play against. I just lose interest in playing as soon as a Sombra shows up.
Hot Take: Soldier is one of the hardest characters in the game currently. Although he is a track and click hitscan which is a simple and easy kit, with how easy his damage can be negated (Moira Fade, Ana Nade, etc.) Soldier is rarely able to output enough damage quickly enough to fight against those abilities or fight against players being healed. Majority of dps being used can output way bigger chunks of damage compared to soldier. (Hanzo,Sojourn,Widow,Cass,Tracer, etc.)
@@MrBrock314 You're definitely right, but that's only close range encounters. Any long range encounter is completely different. There are a few instances where a ricochet'd helix could secure a longer distance kill. But most of the time players are constantly escaping with 1hp at far ranges.
Unfortunately cosmetics are optional in OW2. We were so spoiled in OW1. My biggest problem with cosmetics right now is the price & the same 5-6 heroes are always getting a new skin.
I’m the definition of a quick play warrior. Start every match by saying “ily all” and no matter the responses or how frustrated I get mid match I never feel like telling my team it’s their fault
Hot take: When talking about balance people don’t bring up how fast heroes can reach point enough, Heroes like tracer and Genji have less an impact in a fight because they can get back to the fight faster then everyone else due to the 15% Movement speed and their abilities.
Freezing cold take: content creators such as yourself and others who talk to blizz devs need to talk about Mystery Hero Comp and why they havent brought it back. Players want it. Creators say they want it. Its been gone since season 7!!! A conversation about this needs to happen!!!
If I’m not mistaken doomfist’s seismic slam still has a slow - I was flying on echo low to the ground and when I got slammed I literally stopped moving.
hot take : The hate about Sombra is exagerated. Why complain about her kit ? She's invisible and ? You can hunt her : As a tank, go back and see when Sombra translocates. As a support, stay with your team (play Brig or Kiriko or Moira). AS a DPS, like tank, track her when she translocates and don't let her down, or stay together. Sombra is a good pick for duel, not for playing against a group. Just being smart and focus, and you can win against her.
Hot Take - Stop telling people to leave VC and “focus on themselves” in ranked!! I’ve seen a lot of content creators and streamers get questions about people wanting advice for ranked play and dealing with toxicity. The usual response is to say: “Just leave VC and focus on yourself. Team play really doesn’t matter until the high ranks so just focus on your own gameplay and tune everyone out.” I think this advice is doing a lot of damage to the quality of lower ranked games. There’s so much less cooperation, nobody is in voice, and the SECOND anyone gets criticized, asked to swap, or etc., they take it as “toxicity” and then just tune everyone out or generally start being difficult. Can’t people just try to work as a team? How much toxicity are people encountering that the recommendation now is to just shut off VC? I’m tired of all my recent ranked games having no one in voice for hearing callouts, and the response when asked to join voice is some variation of: “No, fuck you. :)”
It's the people asking people to swap that are often the problem. It's as likely they're the source as not. Bronze people can hardly be trusted in either direction to know what is "best".
okay but you never answered the question that content creators and streamers are getting about how to avoid and deal with toxicity. the fact you're blaming them instead of the game designers and devs is insane. also low ranked games never had people in vc lol
@@Darrakkii Huh? It’s not blaming them for toxicity, it’s a matter of saying that their advice has made ranked games worse in a vain attempt to avoid toxicity. There used to be way more in voice. I’ve gotten back into ranked after playing a lot in early-mid OW1 and the difference is striking. No one in voice nearly 75% of the time.
It's the same business model as most f2p fps games, I thought it was funny asf, if you wanna play dress up then dress to impress is exactly what they should be playing
on the other side you'd probably need to pay $60 for the game in the first place, that's a part why they have it that way as well, to fund their f2p game.
hot take: If you lose your game it is not your teammates' fault. If you think like that it is because you do not admit your mistakes and automatically block your progress. Even if one of your teammates is really in a rank above what he should be you must be in a state of mind of "what more can I do to compensate for the difference in level of your teammate". It is only in this state of mind that we can move forward.
Hot Take: Every single character in overwatch is one very good patch away from being the best designed character (better than Tracer). The idea that characters like Sombra, Bastion, Moira, Mauga, Orisa, or Roadhog are irredeemable and should never be meta is ridiculous. Every character has the potential with the right changes while preserving their identity.
Hot take: Characters people say are bad like genji and doom are actually really strong in the right hands and its just the people complaining are sitting on the skill floor
the PvE take is wild. comparing what we were excited for to what we got isn’t fair. they half assed the “PvE” and as someone who prefers PvE games, I was excited for it. but we’ll never get it because they’re more invested in the pvp side
If open queue has 2-3 tanks per team (on average), I would imagine removing open queue would result in faster queue times (even if we factor in people who only play tank in OQ)
As someone who plays almost every game at max sensitivity, Overwatch’s console max sensitivity is pretty low. That is the main problem. If you could just “get good” and play a higher sense I would say there’s no argument. I noticed just how bad it is when I tried playing the “Genji Parkour.” I realized there was an early endpoint for console players because some of the genji tech required to complete the mode was not possible without being able to do some of the 180* turns in time with the low console sense.
KarQ doesn't seem to understand that being effective with Moira's orbs is the same skills that allow you to be successful with Sigma. Understanding how to ricochet to heal allies and confirm kills without overextending. And her fade is used to chase down and confirm kills, to reposition to heal while not exposing your self. She is an extremely fast-paced hero that requires the player be hyper-aware of where their allies and enemies are, because it is really easy to fade in front of a DVA micro missile burst or Rein charge if you think that you just have a free escape button. He should probably actually play her before throwing shade.
Hot take: I don't think ashe, dva, widow, etc... should get nerfed. I feel like instead, it would be more interesting to buff characters in their roles up to their levels. Ashe and widow are op? Well, now genji is better, so Good luck. Dva is op? Well, now, doomfist is a real threat to her backline. Bringing the niche characters up to par can definitely make the game more enjoyable.
Hot take: Fortify needs to be removed. Orisa presses one button and gets 100 overhealth + 4 seconds of 45% damage mitigation AND immunity to CC AND immunity to critical hits AND less heat generated with zero skill requirement beyond "do I press it now or later?" which is just terrible. I know it also makes her move slower but that's not enough of a cost and it really doesn't change the fundamental issue with the ability. At least Cardiac Overdrive requires you to be near teammates and for you and said teammates to shoot enemies if you want to maximize its value...
6:53 i don’t think you understood the take. When there is no realistic way to unlock skins without paying, then there is no progression for some players. For some people, playing for the sake of playing or improving, is not enough. I don’t feel accomplished after buying a skin from the store. But i did when i saved up credits all year for a zen skin in ow1. And yes, there are many free skins. But i have all of those from ow1
As a lucio main I _hate_ how little CC is in the game, especially against tanks. His right click feels like it has the same value as Pharah's Justice Reloaded emote
Hot take: A hero having a high skill floor/ceiling isn't an excuse for that hero to receive favoritism in terms of balancing. The fact that Tracer takes skill to play well has no bearing on my experience playing against her, she is still annoying and unfun to play against and it's boring how often she is one of the best DPS heroes in the meta, it feels like it's 90% of the time. Tracer isn't the only one but she's the most egregious example, it feels like if she falls slightly out of S tier for one season then everyone complains and demands buffs.
15:12 if you actually want to play Moira at a high level you can’t just do that, you have to think about maximizing your damage and healing with bouncing, predicting where the enemy will retreat, etc. that’s the whole point of that post
Console player here, I've never struggled with Sombra, even when I play a support that may not be able to properly defend themselves against a Sombra. THAT BEING SAID, Sombra is my most played DPS hero so I might be an outlier because I am aware of the playstyle.
Take: they should change sombras’s invis to be like the elite’s camouflage in halo, or at least give her foot step sound effects while invis. I feel like being completely invisible in a PVP game is a “cool on paper, horrible in practice” concept.
As a low masters console player, I find nobody really complains about sombra in ranked. But when I que up quick play or hop on my alt with the homies I’m almost unkillable. She might need a slightly longer invis delay after translocator on console.
Hot take: sojourn hp should go down from 250 to 200 and the railgun crit multiplier should go from 1.5 to 2 so it can one shot widowmaker like before in season 8
Hot Take: Torb should get his super turret back by using the overload to overload the turret making it the super turret but the turret blows up putting Torbs turret on cool down or the turret reverts to it normal form but is disabled for a few mins before he can go back to shooting like normal.
Hot Take: If concord was released around the same time as Overwatch, id have better reception than it does now. Yeah character design is not that good, but the core gameplay feel is better imo
So I disagree with cosmetics affecting the game. It may not affect gameplay, but not being able to earn them like we once did affects the mental of the game. Especially on a more casual level. Say you're a casual playing quick play and you're having a miserable time, but at the end of the game you get a lootbox because you still leveled up and ended up pulling that one skin you were chasing. That's huge and can keep you playing.
As much as Id like to consider the Sombra take, I cant. Ive personally never had issues with Sombra. There was always something I could do. It never felt like I couldnt keep myself alive, pressure her out, or even switch if i really needed to. I main DPS (masters), but my main Support (Diamond) is Ana. Sombra alone has never made me even switch off Ana. I think everyone whines too much and instead of figuring out how to play when shes around would rather bang their head against the wall and complain theres no pillow in the way.
Hot Take: you aren’t in the wrong rank most of the time. You’re all in the same ranking for a reason. Drop the ego. Adapt together. Stay level headed. You’ll play better. It’s all you can do.
Bro you are the best OW streamer by a mile. Love your content! As a tank main I don't know why it's hard to pick tank. I feel like you actually get to dominate. As a DPS I do so so at best. But as tank I crush.. that more heath give me more time to use strategies to win. DPS I just die instantly
I feel like they could do a bunch of good by removing indefinite/automatic stealth from Sombra. Imo it does not fit into OW and makes her much harder to balance
hot take: lifeweaver changes made him one of the best supports in low ranks up until like plat (if hes played well) because of the ridiculous ult plays lower rank players think they can get away with hes able to counter a lot of it with his kit.
Regarding that PVE thing, I feel like it's kind of an unfair judgment; they had so much of it cancelled that would've made it replayable and fun, they had the mission stories they shipped 3 of and they had other ones that were supposed to be more replayable and dynamic. It all completely fell apart cause you know the backstory, and they as last effort just packaged 3 missions they had already made so some of it doesn't go to waste and get them some revenue back. I would not judge general sentiment of PvE based on the last version of it ie. the 3 missions, I would not doubt that if what they overpromised were to happen it would be a whole different story, so I would not agree with that hot take.
If the PVE they promised us came out it would've been much more fun. Think about games like Destiny where PVE is a think and PVP is a thing, plenty of people play that even despite the company getting constant hate from fans, I'd say more than Overwatch. If they had actually put the time into it and made what they promised us instead of pretending they were working on it and then dropping three soulless Overwatch 1 style PVE missions I think it would've been a lot more fun. You can't compare what we got to what we were supposed to get and say "It wouldn't have been fun", we didn't get what we were supposed to get. It's ridiculous to act like all the hype for the PVE we were supposed to get was for nothing when they promised us way more than just shooting a few bots on Torb. The whole reason it's called Overwatch 2 was because it was supposed to be adding a Story PVE experience. What we got instead was Overwatch 1.1. With the changes they gave us, it shouldn't be Overwatch 2, it should be Overwatch 3, because Role Queue was as big or bigger of a change than Overwatch 1 to Overwatch 2 was. If we're just pretending all the people wanting PVE are imaginary than at least get that they renamed the game for no reason and hyped us up for years for a product that never actually happened. The PVE missions we got are like 5% of what they promised us and comparing that to what we were promised is just not fair at all.
1000% queuing into QP in a way that maxes out pass XP per game based on weekly missions. The current meta is really unfun for me and I’m trying to get in and out to get my money’s worth.
The hot take about Reaper just being able to fade in and nobody having CC to stop it.... Majority of the heroes have movement abilities though. Lol I play in high Platinum, low Diamond as a Reaper and it's rare for me to get any more than 1 Elim with Ult cause everyone can escape it easily even if I flank surprise them. 💀
PS5 player here. 4:01 The game should not be balanced differently across platforms. End of argument The option for higher sensitivity is there for players to utilise, as well as all the other aim settings like aim smoothing, aim ease in, aim assist/window size/strength and aim technique. If you can react to a sombra, turn your sensitivity up and start learning to play with a higher sense because if a player with a higher sense fights one with a lower sense at the same skill level. The higher sense will win.
Big bro does NOT play Doom 😂 slam (besides movement) has two MAJOR value factors: 1. Finish off targets you got low 2. Slam into the front of the entire team, gain insanely fast ult charge, then punch back out.
Calling doom slam unimpatcful is blasphemy. Its his best mobility option, easy proc of passive with pretty good range on the wave. And the best part, in my opinion, is the micro stun. Slam as a ball or lucio begins their movement? Canceled. Soldier practicing for the 5k? Ankles broke. Lucky enough to grab a monkey by his toe? Grounded. Doom has an extremely versatile kit and his only sour point is punch and its lackluster performance to any similar ability (orisa spear has much less windup, range, and damage/rein pin nukes/roadhog pull is safer)
I don't play much on console but whenever I go back to it the sensitivity always feels too low, even at the maximum setting. I would love them to turn up the range of values you can set it to. I'm pretty sure its slower than other games I've played on console so I can't imagine it's a hardware limitation. Double the scale from 10-20 and give us more nuance.
Well considering the lack of other content to make cosmetics optional I disagree with you. But I agree with the last half of your statement
I thought the same for months
A hot take is an unpopular opinion. If his opinions are felt by most of the player base then that is a good metric to judge it.
🤓
Hot take - QP isn't for fun - vs. AI is for fun.
@@MrBrock314I think you and I both know that's bait lol
Likely feels sweaty because your qp mmr is near your ranked (maybe higher)
Scoreboard feels worse in comp when people are taking it more seriously and sees it only as individual performances and not a collective effort.
Only value scoreboard have for me is a defence from being flamed.
Better to hide it in all modes and have it be a surprise at the end of the match and see how many flamers have to retract their complaints.
OF COURSE this makes people in quick play sweatier and more toxic, they don't actually want to be there... and with the tank population in the state that it's in chances are that this is the position your tank is in when you get into quick play!
well you only need 3 dailies for all rewards and i'd say you can achieve those 3 most often on your main role
@@Subzerdeveryone can reach diamond, if you don’t reach diamond it’s because you aren’t trying. Everyone can be a 7 you just have to try for it.
Hot Take: People having "mains" in overwatch (and as an extension games in general) is far less common than it is made out to be. Overwatch is a game that is all about variety, and everyone I know who plays it have multiple favorite characters to play as across every role.
Ok but realistically even people who play a variety of characters are going to have one that they play more often than others. That's what a main is.
The first thing you ask when you find out that someone plays overwatch, who do you play.
Video game companies 100% know they’re exploiting people who can’t help themselves, that’s their target audience with mandatory limited time pay-only skins.
ultimatum: a demand whose fulfillment is requested in a specified period of time and which is backed up by a threat to be followed through in case of noncompliance
a price tag isn't an ultimatum. it's still an option. you have the option to buy or not. blizzard isn't going threatening you if you don't buy a skin. you may just have compulsive tendencies that make you more vulnerable to FOMO but it is still optional
Got to remember you are talking about a skill made when sym was still a support.
I still think Ana nade should counter Ana nade - it would be more interesting.
I think people underestimate the strength of FOMO, especially on people who used to have almost complete collections of Overwatch 1 skins.

At least when people understand LOS, it doesn't show on a scoreboard like healing, but 1000s of damage over the match Is being avoided.
even if he may not heal, he kills the dps and still takes dmg away that the dps would have done to the team
That's not a hot take - that's the only reasonable interpretation of his work.
As an open queue quick play player, it kinda sucks that all balancing is based solely on competitive role queue.
Personally, I didn't mind CC because of getting chain stunned, but more so because of its shut-down potential.
It's good to have opportunities to cancel powerful abilities, but you shouldn't have to wait out or bait out 10 different cooldowns in order to ult.
Yes, Overwatch has too many "undo buttons."
I understand and feel for however your desire to collect skins doesn't make them mandatory to have
eh. nah. skins are optional. it's cool that you found skins to be the main reason you played the game, but that's very niche. it's kind of like saying that the custom game mode is a major reason for people to play.
Even if you find it stale, from a casual perspective, it is still quite fun imo
it’s not always console players complaining about sombra, sombra is problematic in lower rank in general. but she’s fine for the top 5% of players so she’s “balanced”
Her CDs are way too short imo, it is way too easy for a sombra to get out, and she can engage too frequently
Sombra requires teamwork to beat. Supports have to peel for eachother and dps/everyone have to pressure sombra back.
@@mickeyboy90 and there’s virtually no actual team work, awareness, and/or peel in metal ranks. which is why she controls lobbies. my point still stands

You usually have to communicate to your team when you need help and give them time to help you (dont fall over instantly) (or duo w ur other support/a dps and tell them when you need help)
And maybe just learn how to play around a sombra by listening for her audio or guessing where she is likely to come out of invis from, play near cover and be selfish with your defensive cooldowns instead of wasting them to “save” ur team.
@@AthenasWrath22 to be fair sombra is a horribly designed character with boring counterplay: dont waste cooldowns, dont get 2v1’d, don’t be solo.

lego bastion maestro sigma etc should have their events return. i have them personally but people really like those skins and preventing people from getting them because there event ended is annoying for them. - hot take
I think I missed the lego bastion by just a few months as I got the game in early 2020.
Moira is fine how she is - don't mess with her.
Hot Take: Make moria attack range shorter so doesn't feel like a no skill high damage character
Only people who don't play moira think she's a no skill character. ;)
THANK YOU.
this, and they use dark patterns SO MUCH it's so awful
So, you're saying we should pander to addicts? That's not how that works. Addicts should go to addiction therapy. Everyone can impulse control. If you struggle with it, avoid the situation - delete the game.
Alcoholics can't have beer. The same is true for other addicts.
15:14 i personally agree with this one. Of all the supports, moira is the only one i vant play

Balancing for console separately could be doable, since console and pc players have separate ranked pools, you could balance both separately.
Team play really doesn’t matter until the high ranks so just focus on your own gameplay and tune everyone out.”
I think this advice is doing a lot of damage to the quality of lower ranked games.

Hot take: Dva and Roadhog should have a visual representation of when their resources are low.
Dva should have lower ranges when matrix is low.
They could potentially add an empowered slam, for example if you get charged up, you either use your punch or your slam
Hot take: torbs hammer should be able to heal ally omnic heroes
Give torb’s hammer a purpose again
Hot Take: Private Profiles should be not private by default. That way it's easier to tell if someone is just higher skilled than me or is cheating.
@@Subzerd I’ve 1 tricked Lifeweaver up to Diamond 2, and still climbing!
Hot Take: not really, but Console players can turn down their aim smoothing from like 100 ---> 95 and your aim becomes snappy like you want.
Can confirm the QP take. Been playing since Overwatch 1... I dont force comp. And I still enjoy playing this game.
The game should not be balanced differently across platforms. End of argument
The option for higher sensitivity is there for players to utilise, as well as all the other aim settings like aim smoothing, aim ease in, aim assist/window size/strength and aim technique.
If you can react to a sombra, turn your sensitivity up and start learning to play with a higher sense because if a player with a higher sense fights one with a lower sense at the same skill level. The higher sense will win.
Big bro does NOT play Doom 😂 slam (besides movement) has two MAJOR value factors:
1. Finish off targets you got low
2. Slam into the front of the entire team, gain insanely fast ult charge, then punch back out.
Moira is the easiest hero in the game, and it isn't even close.
People don't want pve for the gameplay. They want the story of this world and it's characters.
“A… 2… C” I legit found this part so funny for absolutely no reason
