- The main attraction of this place is natural scenic beauty due to that dumboor lake. There are many small small islands on that lake. Every year in the middle of January, during Uttarayan Sankranti a big fair is organized. Thousands of people assemble there from across the state. Every kind of commodities are brought to sell in this fair so that the remote people, already belong to those places can enjoy and buy their requirements. The cultural local name of that holy day is “MAKAR-SANKRANTI”.
The fair held near source of the river Gomti in an area , known as Tirtha Mukh and the accompanying festival attract a large number of devotees from all over the state.
Both tribal and non-tribal people assemble every year on the occasion of the Uttarayan Sankranti for a holy dip in the lake. Surrounded by high hills, Tirthamukh in south Tripura district is a unique place of beauty frequented specially by the Tripuris to make a vow for realizing their own pledges throughout the year.
But on the day of ‘Poush Sankranti’ this place becomes a confluence of thousands of people. Since ancient days Tirthamukh has been a holy place of the Hindu Tripuri tribals. On the specific day people flock to the place to shave their head in the name of their ancestors and worship basically Hindu deities and perform individual sacrifices and rituals to propitiating the souls of departed ancestors. It is on this occasion that a two day long fair is also held.
Besides this fair you can also see “Dumboor Lake” and “Coconut Island”. This island is very famous for its water journey. Mandirghat is the gateway of Dumboor Lake to reach the coconut island. Mandirghat is the place where lots of boats (old version) are available for this journey. It’s a very exciting journey, sometimes scary also, but fully enjoyable. The main scenario is found after reaching the Coconut Island.
Dumboor, the birth of Gomati-the famous river of state Tripura (one of the 7 sisters of North-East). This place is situated at Tirthamukh (south district), 62 km from Udaipur and around 120km away from Agartala. It comes under Amarpur sub Division.
Two rivers Raima and Sharma merge here and gave birth to river Gomati. Gomati is the main river of Tripura. Dumboor is a very beautiful place. Natural scenario of Tirthamukh is perfect for photographers. A hydro-electric project has been constructed there which is the main power generation source of this district.
The route is like,
Udaipur -Maharani -Warangbari - Gandhari - Rangkhang - Dalak -Amarpur - Jharjharia -Notun Bajar -Jatanbari -Tirthamukh.
