Tajima Embroidery Machine Stepper Motor Repair

  • So one day an intermittent problem with my Tajima embroidery machine became an always problem. I had a job I needed to finish, and there was no time to wait for parts.
    Usually the machine worked just fine, indicating the main control board and likely the XY driver card were still fine. That left only the motors to be suspect. This is not a guarantee. This fix may not resolve the issue and then the other components must be inspected/replaced/whatever.
    This fix is, however, nearly free for someone who isn't afraid to dive in.
    So, since I wasn't going to do this twice just to make a video I recorded this on the fly with a gopro. I had to mess with the audio to get rid of this weird helicopter sound the camera generated, but it's still mostly watchable. It's basically raw footage with some of the silent parts sped up. There (hopefully) won't be another chance to do this with my machines, so this is the take we have.
    Undertake this 'repair/mod' at your own risk.

    Hello friend, a question, my machine gives me the code 311, I removed the engine, do you have any idea how I can repair that part, what happens is that they tell me that I can only get used ones but they can give you the problem again.

    Most useful information, thank you.
    I have the same issue with my Tajima Tmex c901 on the y motor. The machine loses registration at higher speeds or lond/wide stitches but only on the y axis. I think this is my solution.
    Do you perhaps have any ideas how to factory reset a Ricoma machine if you suspect a virus

    Do you happen to have knowledge about the pulse stepping motor for the upper thread hook? Our hook doesn't seem to pop out far enough to grab the thread "consistently". Upon removing, we noticed the shaft does not go forward the same amount as it go backwards. For example travels clockwise 1/4 " but then goes counterclockwise 1/8". Does that mean it's bad?

      I'm sorry, I can't say that I've had to delve into that particular stepper before. Honestly, most of the trimming and wiper (the hook you speak of) problems I've had are due to tension being too high.

    Hi. Thank you for your instructional video extremely helpful. I have a similar problem and I would greatly appreciate your input in resolving this. I ha Tajima 2000 TMEX c-15. Lately it decided not to work. When I turn on the machine it starts embroidering in the same spot (won’t wait for me to upload a program). The only way I can stop is by turning it off any ideas what coulee wrong with it. Will appreciate your assistance. Regards Charles

      Doesn't sound quite like the same problem. I think you may have issues with your main controller. I would try re-loading the firmware (factory reset the machine). If that doesn't fix it....

    Great instructional video! My only question would be, why did the pin get hot in the first place? Do you suspect it was a poor joint on the PC board (header), or possibly the connector terminal?

    • @1981muldo
      @1981muldo  3 роки тому +1

      @Jim Manner I have no idea. That particular motor with the burnt pin was actually a spare motor that came with one of my machines....turns out it was 'spare' for a reason. I do think, as you also suspected, that it was the corroded/poor joint on the PCB that caused an excess voltage drop and consequently a hot pin.

    I want to do this on my machine for my X axis motors, I'm not sure how to remove the motor shaft off bearings that hold it all together. Any tips would be appreciated. thanks for the video.

    • @1981muldo

      Bearings will be a tight fit but should come off. Pulleys will have two set-screws in them you’ll need to loosen before they’ll slide.

      This could be the same issue. When these motors lose a leg they become unpredictable until they start failing more often then you see the complete loss of an axis.

    Hey great video man, appreciate the time and effort making this tutorial. I have same issue with Y axis on a single head tajima tehx-c1501. The Y axis would stop moving and it would correct itself if i power cycled the machine. But eventually it just stopped working. Did this method fix the problem?

    fantastic repair approach....i could do this repair but i wonder what the probability of the Y axis motors failing together?...Y axis stopped working with the arrows on the control panel (and obviously when trying to embroider). machine doesn't throw an error code when motors fail? are the motors more of a probable cause?

    • @1981muldo
      @1981muldo  Місяць тому +1

      @davidlacroix8496 No, the machines don't throw a code when the motors fail. Beats me as to why. There's only so many components in the chain and it's my belief that when the machine 'appears' to be working normally except for these axis failures, the motors are the most likely culprit but also inexpensive/cheap to try this solder repair. Yes, it's a lot of labour to take the machine apart and try this, but it beats throwing parts at it that might not be the problem. SO many techs go straight to blaming the x-y card. I think that's lazy.

      @@1981muldo in our case I was able to find two motors for $179 a piece brand new the tech could only find $700 Motors
      Perhaps my 35 years in the Auto industry has helped me locate the correct parts
      I will take these motors apart and check the connectors and repair them, keeping them as spares

    Hello, my TEJT 1501 2005 MODEL has a problem. when its turned on, the frame moves around to find the origin, but the pantograph doesn't complete its cycle. CHECK X or Y pulse motor is the error, therefore the machine cannot function. Do you think your tutorial will help?

    • @1981muldo
      @1981muldo  2 роки тому

      Hi Sharon; I'm not sure. That doesn't sound quite like the same issue. This may or may not help. The TEJT's are more similar to the old Toyota's as far as I'm aware...might want to ask this in the Tajima/Toyota facebook group. There's some techs in there with better experience on those machines.

    @muldo the X axis on my Tajima TMEX-C1201 just stopped working entirely out of nowhere. When it's off I can move it freely; it's not jammed or anything. There are no errors being thrown. When I push the L/R buttons at first I thought nothing was happening, but I just realized it's humming and vibrating VERY slightly. Do you think I should start by replacing the motor? It doesn't have the same connections as in your video; there are no solder points to be bad. Are you pretty sure about the NEMA 24 thing? Thanks SO MUCH for recording this video at 3am :-D

    • @1981muldo
      @1981muldo  Рік тому

    I have a 2010 Neo2 that is having intermittent 316 main shaft motor issues. I just ordered a main shaft motor on a Net 30. Is this motor also a stepper motor, or is the fix the same or similar? I think I could make this fix if it's the same. I don't think the motor ever got overheated.

    Hi men, i have a melco emt16 & i want to change the stepper motor X for another generic.. would you help/guide me on "how or what model" could use? The f@#kers doesn't give any specs. It's a 3xmotion 6 coil motor. And i can give you the "sticker" data (beside of pics or any other possible data). If it doesn't is to much trouble for you
