Diagnostics for G-Shock Squares

  • Some people describe these as "hidden features" on their G-Shock watches. That may be accurate since there is no mention of these diagnostic functions in the official owner's manual for these watches. By pressing multiple buttons in different combinations it's possible to bring up diagnostic functions and/or information that isn't normally accessed. These same button combinations may work on most other G-Shock watches.
    By accessing these diagnostic functions, the user can test that the LCD segments are all visible, that the automatic backlight "tilt switch" is working properly and that the "Tough Solar" solar cell is reacting to lighting changes the way it should. These diagnostics are not very important in everyday use but maybe, someday, they will be useful just to make sure your watch is working right.
    In this video I demonstrate accessing these diagnostic functions on G-Shock "squares" including the GW-M5610, the GW-5000 and the GW-S5600. This will also work with the GW-5510 or any other watch that uses the Casio Module 3159.

      @@stampstepper2393 it works great! I modded my 5610 to have the HDR Red straps. The atomic works great, I'm roughly 1000 miles due south of the Denver radio station, but in the metal hangar during work nights it will never sync. The menus are re-organized between the two models, so that is a bit frustrating when I switch between them and expect my stop watch and UTC menus to be the same number of button presses

    I was looking for information about solar panel diagnostics and I thought it was worth mentioning: the GW M5610U updated version combined the tilt and solar diagnostics into one button combo. A,C, and B buttons, same as your tilt diagnostic. "C" (bottom left) button to cycle through tilt and solar tests.

      Hey! I have G-5600UE-1DR watch and it's module is 3496 according to the backcase and even the module book we get with this watch.
      But I just did the display test and at the last of it, it shows the module number 3495 and inside the box 002.
      What does that mean?
      And what does your watch shows?

    Your videos have been extremely helpful as I go through my square G journey. Thanks for all these informative videos.
    One question I have is in the multiband diagnostics screen does it matter what option you select? Or it automatically goes through all the bands? Also on my 3495 if I press the A button in that screen a 1 appears. Any idea what that means?

    • @lockerzFITTOME
      @lockerzFITTOME 10 місяців тому +1

      Yes, I also noticed it on my GW-M5610.
      If you scroll through different frequencies with bottom left button and then press the LIGHT button (B) it will go into recieving mode. My theory is that you trigger recieving for selected frequency. Pressing B button again will cancel recieving and you will se new letters NG in the box. I triggered recieving for Germany (B 77) and after canceling recieving it showed BNG 77. If I trigger recieving for J40, I got JNG 40 after canceling.
      If you press A button (when you are in multiband diagnostics) you will see that 1 appears on the left of the screen. If you then press button B it will go into Power Saving mode.

    I think that on Casio's G-Shock GW2500BD-1A analog/digital, radio control, stainless steel bracelet watch, the arrangement of the buttons is that the "C" button (Mode button) is the lower left button and the "D" button (Scroll/Toggle button) is the lower right button, but I'd have to double-check that to verify that.

    Greg, did you ever discover why the last screen in the lcd test showed the numbers 3150 in the top right hand box, and 0311 on the main screen? I did the 3 button test after watching a "how to determine a fake" G Shock, and it suggested the module number should show up? Yours is the only video that mentions the numbers that I have on my G Shock? I've searched the net but cannot find an answer?

    • @GoodTimekeeper

      Since this stuff isn’t mentioned in the user manual AT ALL I can only guess. What I do know is that when I have multiple watches with the same module they all behave the same way when I do this stuff, so I think that’s a pretty good indication that mine are not fakes.

      Most G-Shocks have a trimmer screw for adjusting the accuracy, but I don't know if the Bluetooth models have this feature. Losing 1 second per day is out of spec, which is 15 seconds per month (1/2 second per day).

    • @zsomborszarka2616
      @zsomborszarka2616 Рік тому +1

      That would be cool, but i don't think the watches have the hardver to do that. They probably have just a few hardwired measure circuits and if everything works, then you can get all the information the watch have for you, from the home screen. Note that it is just speculation from my side.

    2:50 I have model WVM-120. When I press button A with this J 60 screen a zero appears. Another press button A and the zero disappears. What does that mean? Is it a hidden feature enabling/disabling the radio station?
