Expert assistance was provided by Alan Davis, general manager of Yankee Fireplace and Grill City [www.yankeefire...]. Alan describes several fireplaces options including a traditional wood-burning fireplace. Alan says this should be for ambience only as it is only 15 percent efficient. A gas log is another option, but is equally as inefficient as a traditional wood-burning fireplace at 15 percent. However, there is zero clean up involved. A better option would be a gas-fueled insert into an existing fireplace. That runs at 70-80 percent efficiency. For those without an existing fireplace, there's a gas zero-clearance fireplace. That can be built into almost any wall and exhaust directly out of an exterior wall. Alan also shows Kevin a standing gas-fueled oven. That can be placed almost anyway and vented through an exhaust pipe. A pellet stove is fueled by sawdust pellets and runs on electricity. It's convenient for someone looking to burn wood and more efficient than a traditional wood-burning fireplace. However, if you already have a gas option Alan recommends you stick with gas. Finally, Alan shows Kevin several electric fireplace options. These fireplaces produce some heat, but are primarily for ambience. They do not need any venting.
Steps for How to Choose a Home Fireplace:
1. Alan describes several fireplace options, including a traditional wood-burning fireplace. This should just be for ambience as it is only 15% efficient.
2. A gas log is as inefficient as a traditional wood-burning fireplace, at 15%, but requires zero cleanup.
3. A better option would be a gas-fueled insert in an existing fireplace. That runs at 70% to 80% efficiency.
4. For those without an existing fireplace, there’s a gas zero-clearance fireplace that can be built into almost any wall and will exhaust directly out of an exterior wall.
5. Alan also shows Kevin a standing gas-fueled oven. That can be placed almost anywhere and vented through an exhaust pipe.
6. A pellet stove is fueled by sawdust pellets and runs on electricity. It’s convenient for someone looking to burn wood, and more efficient than a traditional wood-burning fireplace. However, if you already have a gas option, Alan recommends you stick with gas.
7. Finally, Alan shows Kevin several electric fireplace options. These produce some heat but are primarily for ambience. They do not need venting.

This was a great segment. His knowledge is unmatched. Small business owners know their stuff!
I know they're super inefficient but man you can't beat the smell and sound of a real wood fireplace. I have one and I build a massive fire every Christmas just to make it feel that much more special.
thats cool man i wish i had one
I agree! We have heated the entire house with our wood burning fireplace. Mind you we are in Florida and it doesn't get that cold but still it is gorgeous and smells like home. I wouldn't have anything but wood burning. Great video.
I totally agree !
Efficient for basically free and renewable resources
I know several people who have the electric fireplaces (i.e. glorified space heaters) and love them! Since I live in Florida there is not a lot of demand for fireplaces, but the electric ones still give the ambiance of a fire without the heat.
I learned a lot!!! I have a 120 year old, three story house and wanted to get an understanding and find out my options! Great job!!! Appreciate what you all do!!!
They missed one: wood burning insert.
Which in my mind would be best if you have a pre-existing wood burning fireplace, and a natural gas furnace. So you have 2 potential heat sources available to you.
amazing seller with a lot of patience and knowledge about fireplaces, congratulations for this store to have this employer
I found myself staring at your profile pic to see if you're the sale guys. But yes, agree.
Knowledgeable in selling gas and electric units. That's for rich folks
hotsauce2007 yflavel gas fire vents
that is the difference in an employee an an owner.
I guess im randomly asking but does anybody know a trick to log back into an instagram account?
I stupidly forgot my account password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me.
This stove works exceedingly well and is well worth the price.
I noticed they sell a lot of Jotul stoves. They are amazing units !!! I highly recommend them.
Why didn't they mention wood burning inserts with a convection blower?
Great video but you never mentioned the ventless gas fireplace option (not sure the location of where the video was produced ventless option could be against code for that location). Ventless fireplaces are 100% efficient. Besides the elevated humidity wand obvious carbon dioxide concerns what are the cons against this option?
Nice video wery informative, but there is another fireplace which is connected with central heating and there is the coil in it which is connected to the cold wather line.On that wather line must be installed on a special valve to cool down the fire place if the temperatule increase to 95 degrees. In Europe we use the fireplace as the second source of heat ,gas boiler is the main source of heat in this case. I like to watch your videos they are amazing.
Nice! If the house does not come with a fire place can I still install the gas fireplace during renovations?
Great video, the employee was very informative.
i wonder what the temperature in that store is?
getting a lot of tarantino vibes from this guy
Right!
No wood burning inserts at the time of this episode?
Shopping for a gas fireplace... Way too may choices (which sounds good, but really makes choosing difficult). Any advice on choosing make/model?
I spy a Heat N Glo 6000CLX. Love that unit.
BRIEF NOTE: IN CALIFORNIA, CHECK W/THE DEPT OF BLDG INSPECTION FIRST BEFORE ANY WORK STARTS JUST IN CASE. A ELECTRICAL PERMIT(MAYBE) MAY BE REQUIRED FIRST BEFORE ANYWORK CAN LEGALLY BEGIN. ALSO RESEARCH PRICES TOO. REMEMBER TO BE AN INFORMED CUSTOMER. USUALLY PRICES CAN BE BETWEEN $5-7 THOUSAND DOLLARS, POSSIBLY MORE, DEPENDING ON WHAT STATE YOU LIVE IN.
MagikFlame from Nashville, TN, has the best quality flame technology, sold direct from the factory.
Thank you for explaining everything. 🐏🐆🐖
Thank you
I have a fireplace that is like the first one but its empty at the top and empty at the bottom but it has like fan controls around it to push the air. I'm guessing this is more then 15% efficient.
hello Guy's. can you advise me about pellet fireplace , if give smoke or smell outside ?
Three things I doubt I'll see in my lifetime - graphene batteries, a balanced federal budget and a gas fireplace that looks like a real fireplace. Every time I see one, I think GROOVY BABY time to play some Burt Bacharach and roll out the faux bear skin rug. I loved him laughing at the most rediculous ones.
It would be nice to have the ability to have the different flames turn the color you want the flame? It would be nice if the flame could be color changing so no matter what mood you are in you can set a theme to your desire. The key is to make the unit so it will use less electricity than a LED Light Bulb. Make a unit that can produce better heat than any Gas of wood/coal fire place but use electricity and put a battery back up system in that will power this unit for 65 day's straight on high non stop on back up battery power.
Great video!
Great video.. Thanks
I have a gas fireplace just installed. Having a problem with condensation on the vent pipe for direct venting. Any help or suggestions? The house is tight spray formed.
Umm, we get plenty of heat from out Fireplace. We love it s9 much.
could you please tell me the details of the gas stove that runs without electricity?
Ok guys, I have a gas fireplace vent type A. It burns gas and pulls inside air for combustion, becuse this unit also backs to a back deck, id like it to pull outside air in for combustion and be both gas or wood burning. Can that be done in the same space id also want to have a blower unit to force heated air into the room.
He never mentioned the efficiency of the electric insert.
Very interesting..
what about propane vented or vent free ,which is better .I already have a wood fireplace that I am looking to convert all we have is propane available .I want something that can keep a room warm in case of a power outage
Just do a wood burning stove insert
Electrical fireplace is cheaper than woods and gas and woods stove is messy and very dangerous and woods is getting harder to get anymore gas stove is too expensive but looks amazing but electrical is way to go
Sounds like the presenter isn't interested in the electric fireplace insert (or didn't think that would be a heat source) and didn't ask the energy efficiency question as he did in all other fireplace options. It would have been great to have a comparison between the electric fireplace insert vs gas fireplace insert. Safety aside, which heat source is more energy efficient?
I just bought a home with a converted double door garage turned into a den. It doest have air duct system what type of heater should I posibly use to heat the room?
Ronnie Emerson well that’s a tough question. But if you like the look of a wood fire, I would suggest a wood stove. There are a variety of styles, they can be quite efficient and create a lot of heat if needed
Lol he said nobody uses a wood fireplace to actually heat. It did fine for centuries. 19th century homes always had at least a couple fireplaces. If you want to burn gas get a gas furnace, 90+ efficiency.
Does anyone know what company he works for? I'd like to look up their showroom & website.
nmind. I should've done more searching first. Its Yankee Fireplace Grill & Patio in Massachusetts.
The problem with a sealed gas or electric fireplace is that you can't pull out a flaming log and rampage throughout the neighborhood, intimidating your neighbors and generally sowing chaos for extended periods of time.
So you’re saying this type of unit isn’t good for democrats who when pissed off at the smallest thing, like to burn down their community? Gotcha.
@@davem6685 Awww, look, it's a tribalist. How cute. :)
@@briancuprisin4571 all true. I know you guys don’t like facts, oh well. When do you think the layoffs will start? March?
What? No coal fireplaces? Is it extremely hot in that room?
No discussion of ventless gas?
Buyer Beware Heat & Glo, you have to use their controller, can't integrate into your Thermostat that controls the rest of your house, And it won't work with any wifi or iphone or other phone apps.
Amazing a fireplace company saying just get a gas unit,,,, the point of a fireplace is beauty and don't need electricity or gas
Propane, wood pellets, electric... Might as well just run your furnace if you’re not burning wood
So this what Quentin Tarantino do as a side hustle? Selling home fireplace?
I want a fireplace for my trailer. 🍻🐏🐆🐖
He's got no wood burning stoves? Why?
bcs it maybe in a rich neighborhood and rich people don't like trouble and cleaning
@@naweedsediq1299 right, rich people got that way by sitting around doing nothing.
@@LisaMurphy i never said that. some people work really hard to get rich, some inherit wealth and some simply steal from others.
Gas I have.
gas have I.
I have gas.
I got gas.
