Aikido it like taichi..but japanese version for me..i train muay thai and bjj. And i think aikido is a beautiful art. I think is a art to avoid violence.better to avoid fighting then fighting in getting in trouble after.
What is the technique against the hook or cross punch. I've never had a reasonable answer. How about to make a video to demonstrate this technique?
Beautiful exercise in movement.. would love to see it applied for real but sadly reality is where it stops looking beautiful or working for that matter.
To many variables. Love it as an AIKIDO exercise though.
Asian think different from westerner. We think martial art as natural reflex thus we train it daily with high emphasis on perfection of the techniques. Westerners think martial art as a skill result from experience thus put more emphasis on sparring than the perfection of techniques. But not all of them think traditionally. There's exist western martial art that focus on techniques like capoeira & asian martial art that focus on fighting like muay thai or judo.

Pretty exercise, but it looks like a strange extension of the attacker's arm, it has nothing to do with a punch to the stomach. Ask your uke to punch more realistically. Otherwise this is casting a shadow on Aikido. Especially, if such an attack show uke of sixth Dan
Don't confuse yourself with aikido as fighting art or realistic training. Aikido is all about exercise in movement two ppl try to harmonize with each other. Asian hate western martial art as not being an art at all. There're not trained well & not beautiful. Westerners hate asian martial art as being ineffective in real combat.
