It wasn't that you got it to hot for to long, it was because you overloaded your cupel with oxides. Copper oxides are notorious for that. Then add your zinc, lead, and whatever to it, you would have failure. Weigh your cupel fresh from the pack, if it's magnesium based it will hold less in oxides. Bone will hold it's own weight. Cement is about the same as magnesium. Remember Mike, your furnace is a beaker, operated at a high temperature. See how the furnace really smoked when you opened it? That should tell you your oxides had no where to go. Cupel was full.

@VendettaProspecting I saw part two. Thanks for the shout out. What happens when you are trying to oxidizes all the metal is they won't. You start dragging the oxides into the cupel. When the cupel reaches its saturation point it expands. The oxides have nowhere else to go but out. Unfortunately anyway they can. You did a great rescue. Some day I want to come down and have you film a real assay with a common UA-cam assay. Side by side. Show the difference between a real assay and a not so real. I get so p.oed at people strutting around like they're really something and they're not. I still have some gold I could maybe sell if I needed a motel room.

We've all had those experiences Mike , not to worry , I still have a pyramid of melted computer components sitting in front of me on my computer desk to remind me of a failure i had , lol . What i am amazed at is how your tabletop kiln coil is still in such good shape , iv'e had three coils now and they distort and sag real bad so i did what Keith Bowen did from Hardrock University channel and cut my coil in Horizontal instead of it being vertical , hopefully it solves the problem , Anyway that was an interesting outcome for you , i'm sure you'll sort it out mate , Cheers Ned . 👌👍✌✅

About 3-4 hours
I don't understand why you had to add lead. Lead is a base metal. The non precious metals in the scrap jewelry are usually base metals. The base metals in the jewelry would oxidize during the cupel process. Only oxidized materials will absorb into the cupel. Maybe just add the jewelry next time and sprinkle some borax occasionally during the process. IMO your added lead overwhelmed the cupel and caused the fail.
