I just saw the commercial for the Star Shower and I immediately came to UA-cam to look for reviews. This was a very effective and detailed review. When you think about it, as you said, you get what you pay for. So, you pay $39.99 for tiny dots on your house that you really cannot see or you pay $155.00 for the Laser Christmas Lights that will, 1) last much longer, 2) provide a more impressive coverage, 3) work at a wider range of temperatures, 4) provides a remote for even better control, and 5) is more durable, which again, ensure it lasts longer. However, as you said, it might be good or effective for indoor use. Great review...

Great review and comparison! I've read a lot of complaints online about the overall quality of the Star Shower. Apparently, the housing has a tendency to fill up with water after a simple rain shower...which in turn causes the unit to short out. With that being said, I guess you get what you pay for. I agree with you, though, when you mentioned that the Laser Christmas Lights look better.

I think this product is great. I live in Seattle Washington and you know about Seattle weather. This not only held up well (no problems) but it created an interesting "blinking effect" by hitting the random raindrops. I love it and so do my neighbors!

I just saw the infomercial for Star Shower a few days ago and mostly because, I just got cable installed a week ago. I thought wow that's pretty cool and then I saw your review and I'm glad I didn't buy one.
Yeah I have had mine since July or so 2015 and both of mine (Star Shower) is much brighter then what he is showing. Infact I would almost says that it is as bright or brighter then his Christmas lights one that I am sorry it almost looks like they were using a Lens or something to make it better then it is ... Sorry i am not buying this review. I use mine from now until after Christmas and again mine are still much brighter. Yes it is plastic. But mine also has stake and stand base. Use one inside my garage and one out. Mine will shine over 50 feet away if I don't keep an eye on placement it will end up across the street to my neighbors.
I got this in 2 weeks and love it! Works great! Looks awesome in my trees in the back yard. And to top it off it comes through the windows at night and look like stars!

We live in the Mountains and I was totally into the laser light concept when I first saw Star Shower commercial. I just found commercial again and found YOU when i went online to view reviews. I think your presentation is/was great. I liked the detail on opening box and showing the comparisons - thank you. The visual difference you made the time to detail is excellent. To get the same affect it looks like one would have to buy 2 Start Showers and still not have equal quality. I will now look into the Laser Christmas Lights. I just had mine stolen tonight, ~ set it up in the daytime and by 8:00 pm that night it was stolen. An article I was reading mentioned to get teflon or plastic tape, place a plastic bag securely wrap it around your two electrical cords that join and then the plastic or teflon tape wrap securely several times should be quite the hastle for any would be theif to try and undo .. Going to the store tomorrow and getting another one and this time I'll secure it this way. Another advise was to get bike locks and then loop or tie around a tree ..

You said the metal ones cost about $120 compared to the star shower costing $40? well obviously the expensive one is going to be brighter. Since it's 3 times more expensive, you should show the difference between 3 star showers together vs. 1 of the metal ones, no? This review is like complaining that a $16,000 Honda doesn't have the same performance as a $45,000 Mercedes Benz

We bought one of the Star Shower units and find it well worth the money. It has been running from dusk to dawn for 3 weeks. Yes 2 or more would be nicer and Amazon has them for about $26. Will check out the more expensive one but we are happy with Star Shower and all my neighbors are as well.
So, it's not part of the general cost cutting trend then? Because I remember lights always having a reasonable length of cord... not too much, but enough to allow just a little flexibility in placement. Now, you pretty much need an extension to every site... but not that long ago we used to run three of four positions from one extension. Today you have many extensions dangling up in trees and hanging off the roof, all because a 1.5 -> 2m cord is suddenly too much to expect. Sorry, but this is certainly not how it's always been. It would be better to abandon the cheap molded connectors entirely so we at least have the option to swap that 10cm demo cord out and fit a 12v run. Perhaps in warm dry states it's not such a problem - I live in the UK and here, like most places, you really need to minimise the mains runs outdoors. BTW, all my old lights have decent cords, nothing under 2m and my longest is on a 30ft reel and can be swapped out - so I am confident in saying that this is a relatively recent development. All my new lights bar one are pitifully wired. I run a lot of pro DMX too, but at least those are still modular.
For the unread reasons above : 1. Nope, its just a way to cut costs. 2. It's a relatively new thing. All YOU need to know is : 1. Never used to be like that 2. Extensions cords shouldn't have to dangle from trees or off roofs Choice of extension placement is a safety issue above all else.

Brilliant review demonstrating that the product that costs three times as much as the less expensive one is actually a better product. Really? I'm stunned. Who'd have guessed?! We have the inexpensive one - its been flawless through at least this Christmas season, and find the effect absolutely charming. I'm sure we'd have been even more impressed with your expensive model, but three times worth the value? I don't think you successfully made the case.
I bought six from K-Mart. They work perfectly and look awesome. The farther away from your house or other target the more area they will cover. Love them No problems. They come on when dark off in light. That's better than A laser light I bought at Walmart that only stays on 8 hours then off 16 hours. the darker it is the brighter they are. No complaints

I want one but I live on a busy street and they seem just too easy for someone to steal it.
I just had mine stolen tonight, ~ set it up in the daytime and by 8:00 pm that night it was stolen. An article I was reading mentioned to get teflon or plastic tape, place a plastic bag securely wrap it around your two electrical cords that join and then the plastic or teflon tape wrap securely several times should be quite the hastle for any would be theif to try and undo .. Going to the store tomorrow and getting another one and this time I'll secure it this way. Another advise was to get bike locks and then loop or tie around a tree ..

You said the metal ones cost about $120 compared to the star shower costing $40? well obviously the expensive one is going to be brighter. Since it's 3 times more expensive, you should show the difference between 3 star showers together vs. 1 of the metal ones, no? This review is like complaining that a $16,000 Honda doesn't have the same performance as a $45,000 Mercedes Benz

why have 3 crappy poorly made star shower lights when you can have one solid quality christmas laser light for the same price? its a no brainer.
We bought one of the Star Shower units and find it well worth the money. It has been running from dusk to dawn for 3 weeks. Yes 2 or more would be nicer and Amazon has them for about $26. Will check out the more expensive one but we are happy with Star Shower and all my neighbors are as well.
Nice of them to give you 10cm of power cable ... cus, y'know, that should be just about long enough for most people.

So, it's not part of the general cost cutting trend then? Because I remember lights always having a reasonable length of cord... not too much, but enough to allow just a little flexibility in placement. Now, you pretty much need an extension to every site... but not that long ago we used to run three of four positions from one extension.
Today you have many extensions dangling up in trees and hanging off the roof, all because a 1.5 -> 2m cord is suddenly too much to expect.
Sorry, but this is certainly not how it's always been. It would be better to abandon the cheap molded connectors entirely so we at least have the option to swap that 10cm demo cord out and fit a 12v run.
Perhaps in warm dry states it's not such a problem - I live in the UK and here, like most places, you really need to minimise the mains runs outdoors.
BTW, all my old lights have decent cords, nothing under 2m and my longest is on a 30ft reel and can be swapped out - so I am confident in saying that this is a relatively recent development. All my new lights bar one are pitifully wired.
I run a lot of pro DMX too, but at least those are still modular.
For the unread reasons above :
1. Nope, its just a way to cut costs.
2. It's a relatively new thing.
All YOU need to know is :
1. Never used to be like that
2. Extensions cords shouldn't have to dangle from trees or off roofs
Choice of extension placement is a safety issue above all else.

Brilliant review demonstrating that the product that costs three times as much as the less expensive one is actually a better product. Really? I'm stunned. Who'd have guessed?! We have the inexpensive one - its been flawless through at least this Christmas season, and find the effect absolutely charming. I'm sure we'd have been even more impressed with your expensive model, but three times worth the value? I don't think you successfully made the case.
I bought six from K-Mart. They work perfectly and look awesome. The farther away from your house or other target the more area they will cover. Love them No problems. They come on when dark off in light. That's better than A laser light I bought at Walmart that only stays on 8 hours then off 16 hours. the darker it is the brighter they are. No complaints

You are so correct, it is a get what you pay for item. I actually signed on to purchase one but I saw your review first and the laser lights are so much better. I loved the way you avoided the fact that the red laser lights look like phallic members, really professional commentary because I was dying laughing. Great review!
