    💲 NEED FINANCIAL ADVICE? 💲
    1) Google "fee-only financial adviser" or visit www.NAPFA.org (largest association of fee-only financial advisers). NOT an affiliate link
    2) The first question to ask any financial adviser is, "Are you a fiduciary to me 100% of the time". Get the answer in writing
    3) Please note that some people call themselves "fee-based". This is NOT the same as fee-only. Fee-only advisers have committed to being fiduciary to you 100% of the time.
    4) Personally, I would only hire an adviser who is a fiduciary to me 100% of the time. This is not a suggestion on what you should do. Just sharing my personal preference.
    ⚠️ Azul's "Scammer" Warning ➡ PLEASE READ! ⚠️
    Be careful of scammers. In the comments section, I will NEVER ask you to contact me, offer any investment products, recommend a stock broker, or anything similar. Some scam bot commenters 'ask' for investment help, and later, other comment bots reply with "how great X idea/investment/person is" in the replies. These are scam threads. Do not fall for them.

    The decisions on how to invest, when to retire, and other financial planning topics are some of the most important financial decisions you will make in your life. I urge you to seek professional financial advice as you make this decision. Ideally, from a financial adviser, AND a CPA AND an attorney. Having the perspective of all three professions will help you make the right decision for you and your family.
    This information is being presented without consideration of the investment objectives, risk tolerance, or financial circumstances of any specific investor and may NOT be suitable for all investors.
    This information is NOT intended to, and should NOT, form a primary basis for any investment decision that you may make. Always consult your own legal, tax, and/or investment advisor before making any investment/tax/estate/financial planning considerations or decisions.
    Spoiler Alert: There are no "get rich" programs. Rather, just basic blocking & tackling and putting in time and care. Do your homework, choose wisely and (IMHO) work with experienced professionals who are fiduciary to you 100% of the time.

      @JhanJo Місяць тому

      I’m very close to your situation. I will retire at the end of the year and will be 3 years from 70.
      The market has been on such a heater this year I had played with the idea of moving a chunk of my portfolio from stocks and bonds into cash to create the scenario you just described. Unfortunately I did not do it.
      If/when the market comes back I can revisit that strategy.

    • @dsmith6601

      What do you mean that you will use it to do Roth conversions? What is “it“ ?

    • @genglandoh
      @genglandoh Місяць тому

      If you do not know what a Roth Conversion is please watch some videos on the subject.
      When you have a 401k or IRA you have to pay income taxes on the money your withdraw.
      A Roth account you pay taxes on the money before you put it into a Roth and do not pay taxes when you take it out.
      So some (me included) will want to move money from your IRA to Roth when your income is low.
      This will allow you to pay a low income tax today then when the Roth grows you do not have to pay taxes again.
      If you do not do this the Government will force you to pay taxes on all the money in your IRA via Required Min Distributions.
      So when the market is down it is a good time to move (convert ) from your IRA to Roth because for the same dollar amount you will be moving more shares.
      The real important thing to understand is the US tax brackets.
      You pay income taxes in brackets with different rates so it is best to take your money out of your IRA in small amounts each year instead of one big withdrawal.

The historical argument (that stocks always bounce back over time) is valid to some degree but we live in era of massive change where old rules are regularly broken. It is not absurd to say that the markets could drop by 50% soon and take a decade to recover, and many old people don’t have a decade to play with even though most think they are going to live forever.

Recent health scares put us in the position of needing to move to a different location where the houses cost about 25-30% more. Most of our funds are not readily available and our credit score is probably non-existent due to being debt-free for so long. Not sure of most wise way to proceed with next house purchase though we have been looking for a little while already. Opinions and advice welcome.

    While emotionally challenging, short-term volatility is a normal occurrence over the course of a bull market and is the price investors pay for equities’ long-term returns. When negative volatility strikes, investors can often be tempted to react in counterproductive ways. However, in our experience, successfully and repeatedly timing the market around short-term negative volatility is impossible-and runs the risk of missing out on the upside when markets bounce back.

    Stocks & homes are overpriced, interest rates are too low. Fed forced low interest rates which caused investors to pile into stocks & housing, distorting markets. Interest rates should be much higher due to credit risk of excessive deficits, federal debt and devaluation of the dollar then stocks & housing should drop down to an adequate fair price.

    • @wa210

      🎯🎯🎯 but the money "gurus" on CNBC and other channels are crying now for the FED to bail them out with rate cuts. Inflation aka GREED is still way too high. Kroger or other big box stores have not dropped prices at all.
      Rates should be much higher to force companies to quit taking on DEBT, and to lower prices or go BK.
      Sure hope Powell for once, tells WS to stick it, and companies pay down DEBT instead of enriching execs with stock buybacks.

    • @dr.michaellittle5611
      @dr.michaellittle5611 Місяць тому +1

      I think you are conflating several things as it relates to interest rates.
      First, stocks are not overpriced when one considers that the Dow has returned 133% in the last 10 years. For get individual stock P/E ratios as analysts might assess, and ride the gains of a rising stock market.
      Housing prices (not mortgage interest rates) in the US are a function of supply and demand in key growing markets. Supply has been reduced by 25% for single family homes because private equity now holds that % in their portfolio. By taking out that %age of inventory from the market, there is no way prices will come down unless demand subsides in key growing markets. Two US Congressional democrats have introduced legislation to compel PE to seek their holdings, but this hasn’t advanced due to a Republican majority. So, don’t look for big pricing declines except in key growing markets.
      Finally, the Fed must smartly apply interest rates to the economic situation being addressed. Saying that rates need to always be higher as a matter of policy, and notwithstanding the economic environment, makes no sense.
