    Dont worry, 3 of the horses ive ridden loved just eating. 3 tractors came flying past us on a tight bend, i dragged one of the horses up onto the grass and let him have his head down to eat! He totally ignored it then.

    Rosie being a little cheeky lady today.
    Rode a 7 year old, he was well behaved but also stubborn, so must be an age and personality thing.
    My instructor would not have allowed me to ride him though if he wasn’t safe.

    I share a strong shire horse and he only thinks about food! First two rides were fine but then as soon as he realised he was stronger than me, he would rip my arms out and pull me down to eat. Eventually I can preempt when he’ll do it so I can stop it from happening but even if I’m leading him in a head collar, if he fancies that patch of grass he will pull me that way 😭 love him though!

    Theres a lesson horse at my yard who also obsessively eats whilst out hacking
    And shes also pretty similar as in when she realises youre a weaker than her she will continue trying to eat in hopes youll give up in stopping her lol

    About the eating in natural lands your mostly right, Irish grass is really rich because of the rain, Connemara is also full of rocks and other tough grasses horses would be on the move most if not all the time, hope this helped!

    I love watching your videos and I'm not trying to be cheeky or rude but I'm just trying to give a bit of advice. have you ever tried a daisy rein? it just basically stops them from being able to put their head down and eating the grass, love the videos and everything you do with Rosie❤

    • @equinemollie
      @equinemollie  9 місяців тому

      i’ve corrected this now luckily! but nothing would have stopped her, if it wasn’t the grass it would have been the hedge or the tree etc. she needed to learn to respect when I say no snacks I mean it! x

    My horse is the same, we had to cut down her feed, cause she was getting over weight. So she has less feed, hay and grass but we have to turn her out in our non grass field cause she'd just eat and eat. It doesn't help she isn't in work at the minute. But it's so hard to get it under control at times. Luckily she gets brought back into work next week. Then my other horse just eats anything during hacks , anything green he eats. I had to avoid the grass our last hack haha. I love your videos by the way thank you for sharing

    How come British people would rather walk for a long while to find a place to climb on instead of just getting on from the ground? When I used to ride horses as a kid in our country you always mount from the ground, unless you have a disability or there is just a really convenient place to get on.

    • @equinemollie
      @equinemollie  9 місяців тому +2

      She’s too round to get on from the ground, no matter how tight the girth is she has no withers she’s literally barrel shaped. So I would end up upside down😆

    • @sl31064
      @sl31064 9 місяців тому +3

      Mounting from the ground is a lot harder on horses physically, so unless there's no other option a lot of people would try and find something to limit the distance you're trying to climb onto your horse's back from. It saves them from discomfort in the long run. Also, I imagine English saddles are more difficult to ground mount from than Western saddles.

      @@-o_o_o_o_o_o_o_o- no problem, personally I know here in Ireland ground mounting is also done a lot too but in cases like riding schools, tall horses, old horses etc. mounting blocks are nearly always used wherever possible to protect them or make it easier!
