Star Wars The Arcade Game is an astoundingly good port for the Atari 2600. Easily the best Star Wars game for the system, and one of the best technical achievements. It plays great too. And the sound effects and music are first rate. This is one of my "go to" games for the system, like Pitfall 1 + 2, River Raid, Hero, Phoenix, Ms Pacman.
Star Wars was is the best sci-fi series ever. I remember playing Empire strikes back and being blown away that ain’t was in the Star Wars universe. Another excellent review - thanks.
That very first poster you show of the original film...I have hanging in our master bedroom wall (my fiance is a gamer and Star Wars fan- 6 films only not the new stuff). Our poster is signed by everyone- Mark Hamill Harrison Ford Carrie Fisher George Lucas Anthony Daniels (C-3P0) Peter William Mayhew (Chewie) I love that film with all of my heart and still own all of the original toys (in our temperature controlled attic).
I still have the empire strikes back, return of the Jedi and Star Wars arcade for coleco .. spent many many hours as a kid.. thanks for the memory.. I should get them out for a blast to the past
There was a Star Wars game that projected an image of a TIE fighter on a Death Star background and you shot at it with a gun mounted to the game that looked like the guns in the Millenium Falcon turret. I remember this from about the end of 77 to 78.
Empire on VCS was incredible when I was a kid. I was playing it in 1990 and loved it. Going after the little red spot on the at-ats! Going to emulate this on my OG Xbox
great video. I Don't know if you go back and read these comments on old videos like this one. I Just like to say that back in 1983 they used to heavily advertise "Star Wars : Jedi Arena" on TBS. If you watched NWA Wrestling around that time "Star Wars : Jedi Arena" was always the first commercial when they would go to commercial break
I really love how an expensive game for the 2600 is ~20-30 bucks, compared to like what, 200? 500? a thousand? for other consoles. Truly the best system to collect for.
@@PlayerOneStart Are people realky assuming the airspeeder in ESB to be the Falcon?? I know the Ataris graphics are limited, but even if you tried the game out without knowing its a star wars game, you will put the pieces together after playing the game a bit. Also, the Intellivision version doesn't look as fun. Yes, the Airapeeder and AT-ATs are more easily recognizable, but it looks almost nothing like Hoth.
Goodness. You said you went to your local goodwill and game stores. And I'm like hey those locations look familiar. Then I was like oh hey those are the exact stores I frequent. Small world.
3:24 I can't believe anyone ever confused that with the falcon. I mean come on, it's obviously the snow speeder. You can clearly see the stubby little drop wing. Also the game's setting kinda gives it away! Sheesh. I thought Star Wars fans were super-nerds?
i know Im asking the wrong place but does any of you know a way to log back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me.
Although the Parker Brothers Empire Strikes Back Game is a bit repetitive, I used to play the crap out of that thing and still consider it one of the most polished games for the 2600.
I love your channel buddy! Great work. Subscribed for sure! My best to you - keep up the great work. Cool stuff!! I grew up with it all hehe (im 53) derp! Rock on!
The ESB game was ported to ColecoVision fairly recently (Team Pixelboy), and it is really good. Also, the definitive home versions of the arcade Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back were released for the Atari ST computers during the late 1980s (by Domark). The mouse controller is every bit as precise as the flight yoke was on the sit-down machines.
I have all of the commercially-released Star Wars PC games from X-Wing up to but not including the Battlefront re-releases. Not a single game I'd call garbage and a few of the games are on my top 20 favorite games of all-time list (Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, Star Wars Galaxies). I've been going back through what came before X-Wing as well as the console offerings. Definitely interesting seeing the wide range of adaptations of the same intellectual property to video games.
The last two Battlefront games are not what I would call great. The graphics are astounding but everything else is less than the previous versions. It's very unfortunate that EA held the Star Wars property in their icy grips for so long. What's really sad is now that EA has lost Star Wars (thank God) they finally make two games that are genuinely okay...Jedi Fallen Order and Star Wars Squadrons. If only we could somehow take Star Wars from Disney we would be all set. I can't wait to see what other publishers are going to with Star Wars now that EA has lost their exclusivity deal. I would also love to see them lose the sole right to produce football games as well.
@@Sinn0100 It's really tragic when a property with so much creative potential is held hostage by a corporation unwilling to take risks. Art and business often don't gel very well, though. I finally got around to the new Battlefront games and my brief experience was that they felt like nicer-looking cash-in versions of the originals. I've always preferred the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series of games over the Battlefront series, but the original Battlefront games were quite a bit of fun. I've become rather jaded with game releases by major publishers. Part of it is buying Fallout 76 and a few other lackluster titles at launch (bad choices on my part), but there's a lot of creative projects by lesser-known companies. Hopefully future Star Wars games take what made Star Wars Galaxies, Jedi Outcast/Academy, and other favorites of mine great to an even better level of quality.
@@AunCollective I'm with you 100%. Although I wouldn't consider myself jaded as I play so many different games across all genres and platforms. So far I have been able to stay ahead of it but only just as it's getting worse. I may have avoided Fallout 76 for example but...I purchased not one but two copies of Cyberpunk 2077 (fiancee and and I play everything). That my friend is the last time I preorder anything again. I learned my lesson and now I wait for reviews from independent sources so I can avoid that unpleasantness again. Actually that whole month was just one bad decision after another for game buying.
well you said the isometric return of the Jedi only ever got released in the arcades well i beg to differ on that on i remember playing them on the spectrum 48k and Amstrad cpc464 home computer/micro but saying that i am in the uk also they got ports of the starwars arcade game.
I've played all of them - both in my youth and today - and I believe Star Wars: The Arcade Game to be be the absolute best Star Wars game on the 2600. Death Star Battle would be next. ESB is just too damn repetitive. And Jedi Arena is a jumbled mess.
I absolutely love the contrast in old video game commercials between the live-action footage and the old graphics.

Agreed. Very glad to see someone mention Hero. That game is severely overlooked these days it seems.

I love your video content and production quality. I was looking for star wars for the 2600 and your video popped up. Great work as usual.

Loved all the 2600 Star Wars games! Nobody ever thought the Snow Speeder was the Millennium Falcon... That was not a thing!
Empire on VCS was incredible when I was a kid. I was playing it in 1990 and loved it. Going after the little red spot on the at-ats! Going to emulate this on my OG Xbox
I used to love the original vector arcade game and received the Atari Computer version one Xmas. Fantastic past events and a great video thank you.

The Empire strikes back game is my favorite. Ive gotten pretty good at it, along with the return of the jedi game.
Nice! It is simple, yet addictive.

If it was a falcon it would be gray and big

Cool retrospective Tyler! Personally I enjoy The Empire Strikes Back the most too.

The irony of apple using an u licenced game
The graphics look pretty good for 2600 game the course when you compare the new game unit of course it doesn't look good good
Having grown up with these games I think mostly they did the best they could. :) Thanks for watching!

Disney needs to drop EA and hire Parker Brothers to develop for the next BattleFront game
Achei a versão do Atari 2600 do primeiro star wars melhor que a do intelevision!
Atari 2600 could produce better graphics than people gave it credit for.
Masters of Teras Kasi is the best Star Wars videogame ever😂😂😂😂😵😵😵😵
Im sick of hearing about the gaming crash of 83. Its just a rumor. I know because I was there. Games were alive and fine.
I agree, i kept playing my Atari until the NES came out, i was not aware of a crash
Technically Jaws was the first blockbuster.
That was Birth of a Nation (1915)
the first movie to be shown around the clock to keep up with demand
and the first one to have midnight screenings.
Where is the star wars disco from?
The song has been around since the 70s, but the animation is from Rebel Strike (Rough Squadron III) on GameCube.
Star Wars Theme by Mego.
It was BIG hit!

It an Atari 2600, all the games are pretty basic.
3:40 so very very inaccurate
