We have feral chickens roaming our property, and they decimated our black eye pea crop. They stripped the peas open while they were still on the plant and ate every pea they could find. They also dug up an ate the potatoes that were growing close to the surface of the garden bed and ate the avocado pears straight off the tree. Rather than dying, they have increased their numbers and I quake in fear to see what will happen this year.

I think you meant to say that tomato leaves/plants are not good for hens, BUT ripe tomatoes are perfectly fine - actually they are great! I have been feeding my hens excess ripe tomatoes for a decade - they go absolutely nuts for them 😊

@@chrisz.9974 Agree. They take a little bite of something they are not instintly know. They are definitely drawn to red and ripen fruit for sure. They totally avoid avocado pit, onion and garlic and raw root veggie.

One thing I’ve observed in my own chickens is they seem to ignore things that aren’t great for them. I get onions that have gone a little south from a cafeteria at my college and the chickens never touch them. Same with orange peels. Not interested at all. I also free range my flock in the backyard, so it could be due in part to such liberal access to other food sources. If there’s nothing else for them to eat, maybe they’d try? I don’t know. Always better safe than sorry but I don’t sweat tossing orange peels in the chicken composting system.

I agree with most of this, but you should include some ways that some of these things are actually beneficial to chickens. Things like a tea made from garlic and a spray bottle filled with a combination of lemon juice and water. If you're unaware of what these things do, do your research. Another thing you can add to this video is anything dried, like rice and grits. Not because they're poisonous, but because they will absorb water after they've been ingested.

Can't say that I've ever known a chicken to eat anything that harms them. Whether they can taste it or genetic memory I haven't a clue? Just as I've seen many times over when young birds meet my beehives for the first time they instantly turn away. Any type of bee or wasp actually. Being the insectivores they are that has to be bred into them. I imagine much of what they eat is the same.

So when you say cannabis has a broad spectrum cuz there's multiple parts of the plant as with most plants. More than likely people that give cannabis to their chickens, they're giving the fan leaves, and more than likely they're giving them the family use when the plant is in the veg stage, so no trichomes are developed, tricomes are the sticky residue glands on the buds of the cannabis, the trichomes are like the cannabinoid factory and storage part of the plant then which it's combusted , So when you feel the effects of it. Even if you had fully matured cannabis flowers or buds, if you were to eat them, you're not going to get stoned, You're going to probably just have a stomach ache. The combustion is what causes the chemical change to allow the enhancement of the effect of the cannabis once smoked otherwise it's unaffective.
