I am glad the devs are trying to be open via these dev diaries, but I do want the devs to talk about the always online feature.
As do I, but I fear there’s not a lot they can add that Almir hasn’t already said.
Wait, the game is online only? Damn, what a way to kill the game
I'm worried about mods for PD3 now; I think they're going to implement anticheat to encourage microtransactions
@@TheKknowley Alas, we don't know who was the one who okayed the always online shtick, it could be almir but without much evidence we can only rly assume innocent for now until more info releases
@@mikelikesmike6005 that's what'll happen, probably an anti
-cheat. And no offline is for people not to try paid skins & unlock stuff via engines. Sadly is clear they will just focus on paid cosmetics & seasonal stuff, at the same time they charge us for maps & for the game(no free mode, but freemium experience). So damn greedy they don't even want to give future maps for free like every game is doing.
Now that you pointed out the new HUD portraits, I think it would be a cool detail if, in the end, the devs made it so the portraits would update to masked-up versions whenever the respective player... well... masks up.
they're busy making the hud look like warzone
Ono michio is that you ?
I doubt they would go as far as to show the mask your team is wearing exactly just imagen the complexity of doing that with how heavily we can modify masks. Maybe they could show the caracters original mask instead.

I love that transparency, and truly hope thwy contiune with it. That would be amazing
There is a SCP that takes inspiration from payday, SCP-2064.

The ide of switching the cleaning cost to a % of heist income was a brilliant move for stealth especially as before if there was a few civilians in an area u wanted cleared it was an easy choice, kill and bag if needed. Now u actually want to keep them alive ziptie them and just move them out of the way instead. I appreciate you being able to be genuinely critical about the issues with payday 3 while still maintaining a good relation with the studio, the 40 dollar price tag definitely takes the sting away from always online DRM for me though. I'd love if more companies, companies that are definitely alot more lucrative than starbreeze and overkill, would price their games reasonably like this. I heavily doubt Activision-Blizzard or Sony are hurting for that extra ten dollars they're trying to milk out of people with 70 dollar price tags, and I also doubt most of that money is going towards the developers who actually put their labor into these games and make them what they are.
Depending on how many copies the game sells, those 10 dollars could get them hundreds of thousands of dollars
They aren’t the same size of studio wither
@johnramos8703 yeah, thats why i said that much more lucrative and successful companies that overwork their devs and pay them shit compared to executives, shareholder, and publisher cuts should definitely follow this example if smaller studios can survive on 40 dollar games.
Thank you for pointing out that Payday 3 was Games As A Service. I honestly wasn't aware.

I feel like removing microtransactions would reduce how much total money they make, but will make more people buy the game. Could be a net positive in the future. Having some free heists and weapons along side it would be amazing too. Maybe make bought heists cheaper too. The only online thing is really up to the player's view. I like playing games on the go, so of course I feel like this is a bad move. Other players might think is isn't a big deal. I'd say to remove it, right now or post launch.
No it wouldn't
The only feature that I'm really waiting to hear whether or not they're going to have mouse and keyboard support on console and I mean both Xbox and PS because I knew bunch of games that only have it on one or the other so I'm really hoping they're going to have them both

@@Spokenwordagreed, payday the heist only launched with I think 6 heists, and those still hold up to this day(save maybe green bridge in my opinion)
@@SpokenwordThose heists are all fine though. Yes, they are easy and fairly short, but that's the entire point of them. Shout out to "The Bomb: Forest" as a great example of design I hate. If you play it with a team that has done it a lot before, nothing too special, other than being a really really open map, when I think Payday is best on closed in maps... But my God, Solo, with vague directions for search objectives that don't give you markers, friendly ai that can't keep up with you... It is a real, and very long, slog.

I’m interested how he talks about human charecters like they have to specify human interesting
Well if you make a game about dogs ( or other 4 leg creatures) you would probably not use motion capture, but rather key frame dog animation by hand
didn't even hear about the always-online part... ugg... I was planning on pre-ordering, but now it'd be better to wait a few weeks after release. Not because i wanna "wait and see". i have a full expectaion of what i am getting, and sadly "always online" never works good the first week or so when everyone is overloading the servers. Which means i can pre-order and still have to wait a couple weeks to play, getting frustrated as i attempt, or just wait a few weeks to even buy it, and be able to play in the first place.
Kinda disappointed by that, i was actually wanting to pre-order.
I assume singleplayer and maybe LAN mode will be a thing that will allow you to play locally with everything on the client (or atleast have the server also run on the same machine as yours) but online-multiplayer will prob use dedicated servers, but prob seperate from the match-making and database ones, so each server will do different job: gameplay servers will do gameplay stuff, and singleplayer and LAN will have them hosted locally on your machine maybe, match-making will be used to find other servers near you excluding local servers, database servers will be used to load your progress but that prob also means you would need internet connection otherwise game will fail to load your data and you won't even able to play singleplayer even if singleplayer ran it's server on your machine, this ofc if they don't add a local save system of some kind but seperate from your main one so you can still play offline if you wish.
@@wedoalittletrolling723 They announced always-online. What that means, is to start the game up, you need to connect to the internet.
This always has a few days or weeks of a failure rate with new releases, due to how many people want to play them right away.
It's not about lagging in matches. nor does it matter if i'm playing with others. It's just gonna be frustrating, if not outright impossible to connect up the first few days.
@@antirevomag834 What if they upgrade the servers?
@@wedoalittletrolling723 First off, because i get the small feeling there's some wires crossed. this isn't going to stop me from buying. I 100% plan on buying, i just don't wanna own a game and not be able to play it.
Second off, they've been having money problems, which is why payday 2 started getting dlc again, specifically to add funds for working on payday 3. Them upgrading servers could bankrupt them or at the very least put them into trouble, and it wouldn't solve the issue in the long term, because the problem is short-term.
Always-online games always have a shakey launch because there's always more people who want to play, than the devs anticipated, and the servers will drop periodically because of this. After a few days this will dwindle off, and then probably a couple weeks later, it won't happen at all, but they won't be able to until they overload the servers to see.
Some games do betas to test this, but even then the servers always seem to lag behind during this first period, and contrary to what alot of people think, payday 3 is a pretty big deal. sure, it's not gonna pull in "COD at it's peak" numbers, but i'm fully gonna say it's probably got a few hundred thousand pre-orders already, and more are gonna buy it once it's out because of the "don't pre-order" culture.
the always-online part's not stoping me from buying. to be clear. It's just i don't wanna have a game i paid money for sitting there when it's released and me trying for hours to connect up.
Love the way payday 3 is turning up! If anything i would love to hear your thoughts about it going online only since that tends to be a feature that ends up killing games.
It literally can’t not kill games unless the equipment for players to set up their own servers isn’t released before End of Service, which rarely happens ever.
@@WildCharger so basically it kills games because devs should but never implement those set up features before abandoning the game
@@shaggytophyou think they wouldn't?
@@shaggytoph i don't think they will abandon the game if it becomes a success, also coding a P2P system for a game with client-server networking model is too much work.
Either way PD3’s in a weird position where Overkill has said for sure “hey this game’s gonna change engines during its life”, which would definitely impact server software.. I say we hound them to implement offline capabilities when the transition to UE5 occurs personally
Always online? ooooh dear. Cos that's gone so well for other games in the past
ngl i thought payday 2 was always online... guess i just never dove into the singleplayer enough
PD2 *is* always-online.
Due to gameplay being handled P2P and it's a game from 2013, it's singleplayer can be played offline and also your progress is saved locally (with it being updated with Cloud should you have internet connection).

Still a bit cnfused by this, I see comments about the game being always online, but what exactly does that mean? Maybe since you can have different masks ?
my first impression of the game was thinking the game looks horrible and weird, but as i watch more and more clips of the game, more i start to like it.. so the graphics are ok but i can see why people would think it looks bad (the game not released yet is no excuse either, many big studios show a unfinished game before launch and it looks the same post-launch...) now about the always online and microtransactions, it's a really bad move for them, there are many examples of games like this that died fast, (the game should atleast be free with these features) i want the game to be a success but by the looks of it, it might probably die fast aswell...
Personally I don't understand why the art in the gallery being ai generated would be a big deal. it is literally supposed to be representing "generic piece of art" so if anyth it would be fitting
Also let's not be delusional ourselves, as of now there are only a few consistent tells if an image was ai generated, and none of them can be clearly recognised in in the style those paintings are in. Anyone who claims they can consistently recognise if it is ai generated or not with any degree of certainty is bullshiting
The old gaming model charged people for maps but gave ways to unlock skins just by playing. In modern gaming it's usually a pick one situation: you either give all maps for free but charge for skins, or you charge for maps & give ways to unlock skins for free, by playing. Alternatively, other publishers decide to make the game free-to-play & they fill it with microtransactions. *Payday 3 will charge us for the game, will charge for ALL the maps & will also have a paid currency & paid skin store* like if it was Warzone, meaning it'll be filled with microtransactions (cause even if you buy the $100 gold edition, after September 2024 everyone hast to pay for future content separately like in PD2). Plus Almir just said it's always online & no offline play even if there are games like Back 4 blood or Borderlands 3 which are Cross-platform and still offer offline progress which you can later carry to online. It's clear Starbreeze understood "modern gaming" wrong & strangely I haven't heard youtubers reporting this.
BTW I heard MarioInATopHat saying something like max leveling is seasonal, so a lvl cap each 2 months like in CoD Warzone, which makes me think there'll be a battlepass after the game launches. And this basically means infamy as we know is dead. I don't understand why they'd choose the seasonal system everyone hates in Warzone instead of the OG prestige everyone is asking for.
@@shaggytophif your and OP's comments are true. Then my hype for payday 3 just died today. Nice job starbreeze/overkill! You just earned your bankruptcy!
You do know that you'll be able to play new heists even if you didn't buy them?
Funny that you mentioned Back4Blood, it didn't have an offline mode at launch.
Overkill is desperately trying to not declare bankruptcy by releasing a beta ps3 game with minor gameplay changes and slapping the payday title to it
Lets compare these animations with GTA 4 ones , and before you say Payday 3 AAA as well.
Yeah GTA has a crazy big budget and PD could never even get close to their level
@@Jocken75 they have half budget of gta 4, and cant make proper animations for 8 map idk man, and gta 4 is 16 year old game.
half budget of GTA? I don’t think you know the difference between these studios? GTA are the most expensive and best games in the world even if it’s an old game 😅Not many games are even close to that level
it's fucking beta footage
Thing is I don't mind the always online thing because the only reason people wont have internet is if your ISP had issues, or connections in your area became disrupted, and we live in a day and age where you are always online anyway so I don't see an issue really. the only way I can see it being an issue is if the approach was no ai and always queuing to find other people playing the game, and a year or two after release where only the fans remain would make matchmaking an issue.
Whatever the case may be, I am really excited to get my hands on it, grind levels and master the levels both loud and stealth.
"Don't act dumb"
Hopefully see you all bagging and getting away with that sweet loot gang. its payday time.
I can understand why always online is disliked for single player games. Its stupid still as basically everyone has constant internet so as long as it doesnt ruin performance its a dumb reason to cry about.
Now what I dont understand is how you can cry about always online for a game that is meant to be played online with other people...
when you have solo play it should be available offline especially since some of us play only in solo due to dodgy internet
-servers maintenance, sometimes it can take up to 3 hours which you will not be able to play at all. In PD2 this never happened because it's peer 2 peer. BTW I don't know how they do it but server maintenance just happens to always land at the same time you just only had 2 hours free.
-DDoS attacks. Some people get really mad because they don't agree with things the company is doing with the game, so they send DDoS attacks collapsing the servers.
-Game preservation. Imagine you play the first 6 months; you unlock lots of things but then life happens. Now imagine 3 years pass by & when you try to come back, even if you have the CD for your console or you have it in your Steam Library, if the game did horribly and the company went bankrupt, they servers will be permanently closed, meaning you will not be able to play the game at all and you will not be able to unlock the achievements you had left or anything. This happened with EVOLVE, a turtle Rock Studios game (creators from Back 4 blood, that's why users got REALLY mad when they tried to make Back 4 Blood always online too. Those devs had to revert that change.)
-Hackers taking control. E.g. the Apex Legends drama with the #saveTitanfall situation. People weren't able to play for a whole week cause hackers took the servers in a way of protesting.
-Always-online means an anti-cheat (it's a PVE game). Anti-cheat means no mods. Usually, it also means no offline mods (devs do this to prevent players using offline-only cosmetics mods, like guns skins, etc. Of course, this is all done so players buy skins instead, which Payday 3 will have tons of, it'll be exactly as warzone with CoD Points & will be added after the game releases, so reviewers don't put thumbs down)
the funniest part of their always online "DRM" is that it's probably just gonna get cracked on release day. methinks they don't use always online as a form of DRM/preventing an early crack of their game - it has to be for something else. they cannot be that delusional. obviously it'll have to do with money so, probably something to do with the garbage MTX that they'll sneak into the game a week after the positive reviews are out, so nobody can mention the negative parts if they literally didn't exist at the time of the most people reviewing the game. scumbag tactic, as is standard by now in the games industry.
What exactly is wrong with games being online only? Genuinely just confused
People cant mod the game, and generally people have no time to go online these days or fear of cant play when the connection was bad/servers down, apparently. That's from what I understand so far.

@@shaggytoph Can they make it a peer to peer post launch?
@@nobody5093 Not possible, peer-to-peer and client-server models are different things. There is a reason why some games even ship the server build with the client should they want their games to be played offline (Source games like HL2 is a great example, they use the server-client model but to make it playable offline they just ship the server with the client build and make the game host a local server to have the client play on it, you can notice that some source engine game's bin folder has both client.dll and server.dll)
Ofc, shipping the server with the client is unsecure if they keep API keys and other important stuff they don't want the general user to get their hands on, but this can be simple fixed by *not* doing that, and who even does that anyway?
If the concern was they want to limit cheaters in online, then fine by me, make online-multiplayer run on dedicated servers hosted by Starbreeze, but they can still make singleplayer run offline since it doesn't matter where the server runs on anyway, and if they don't want people cheating in singleplayer then make singleplayer progression save the game to your local save, so your online progression and local progression are seperate.
Can’t wait to play payday 2.5
Personally already took Payday 3 off my wishlist. Don't even want to help Starbreeze there by giving them a metric bump. It's unlikely payday 3 will be dead on arrival however given the state of payday 2 wouldn't hold out hope its gonna be this ideal launch bringing payday from the brink.

i dont really get why people are worried/complaining about whether they used ai to make the art, it just makes their job a little easier and allows them to work on other more important things. at least thats how i look at it
Because people are scared that ai is going to replace artist and they just love to complain.
Personally i don't think any good artist should have anything to worry about, now people with no originality on the other hand their screwed
always online L game
Just canceled my press order. I'm sick and tired of this always online bs!
Good side mission idea was to add 1 ai made art and the mission is to destroy it and other fake art.
I genuienly think people are blowing the always online stuff way out of proportion. It's not that big a deal. It sucks yeah, not the most ideal approach but it's hardly going to seriously affect gameplay in any significant way. The major drawback I can see is people who like playing on the go or while travelling being unable to, which I'm guessing is a very small percentage of players, and being unable to play if the servers go down for any reason, ie. maintenance, but honestly I have some faith in OVERKILL in that regard. For as many issues Payday 2 had, servers were never one of them.
I’m not all that worried about 8 heists in launch. I expect, if they want to make the model work, we’ll have a few more than that by the end of the year.
It's more to do with the already sour reception of always online games, especially ones that can be played solo as if you're playing offline through the entire game. People can no longer play games they bought because of this feature, servers tend to get buggy and not let anyone log in for days at a time, heavy drm vibes which many people hates
Also "servers were never one of them" is because payday 2 online is peer to peer. The one time they handled the server epic games fiasco happened
@@TheKknowley Judging by the prepurchase options, I'm guessing their plan is to schedule new releases every ~3 months, with 4 heist releases a year, so we _should_ get a new one before the end of the year yeah.

Graphics wise, it looks like a game that would've came out in 2013, not 2023
Just get a graphics mod
no it doesn't
AI accusations are just massive copes
Even if the paintings were made by AI so what? Thats no chip on the teams artists shoulder
Them making some ugly pretentious art by hand or generating it real quick makes no difference on their monthly paycheck
Either way we are not getting the saucy art from pd2 art gallery so it doesnt even make a difference
I think a lot of people would prefer less of that saucy art
It does have legal implications. AI art isn't copyrightable (as the AI isn't recognized as a person). Hence why ai books and art aren't readily sold beyond spam listings (what's stopping someone from just taking your stuff and selling it as their's?).
@@FatalFrostbyte29 You have no taste
@@theepicduck6922 Pure AI art isnt copyrightable yeah but all it takes is to transform it a certain amount.
You could just have the AI spit out 300 images as reference and then cobble something together.
Also who cares if you cant copyright a singular image in your game? Thats a non issue.
Payday 3 dead on release, microtransaction hell hole always online trash
The game is very unlikely to be dead on release. For one, there will be no microtransactions on launch, they’re being held for post-launch… That doesn’t mean I don’t agree with your concerns, but blanket statements like these help absolutely no one.
@@TheKknowley That's... not a great look, either. Withholding micro-transactions until post-launch can be interpreted as an insidious "first rock free" type move. Get people hooked, and then start siphoning money after they can't refund. Some companies will handle it way better than this, of course, and the actual implementation remains to be seen, but that's why we need clarifications from OVERKILL and Starbreeze regarding this and the always-online feature. I'd love to hear the developers talk about, for instance, end-of-life plans, confirming that the game will be playable in perpetuity, instead of kicking the can down the road.
@@Sausagesaucey Oh, 100%! I seems to have become a common strategy to almost hide the worst parts of your game from reviewers.
Simply mentioning it to refute these strange dead on arrival statements. They seem like wishful thinking from sadists baying for the blood of a game that hasn’t even released yet…
Yeah they really could just go the paradox interactive way and make fuckton of good games with 70% content locked in dlc, just like what they've done with payday 2
But fucking with micros is just tempting fate, especially if it's not visual only on stuff that isn't unlockable without said micro
@@Sausagesaucey Payday 2 had microtransactions for 10 years at this point.
bye bye knowley ty for shilling this crap......to everyone boycot pd3 look what they did to pd2. Btw.Pd3 gonna be always online plus full cash shop on start and 100% on crappy epic servers.
not only that. from all the gameplay I saw the gameplay looks like sh. Only the maps look better in the distance due to the Unreal engine 5.
i want it out now
@themadman616 It's actually 2 months 😅
@themadman616 thank you for the motivation, I needed it before I go out of my mind after 10 years of payday 2
