I personally had one of these laptops with the exact same fault. I replaced the cap, board worked fine, then I put it back together and it died again. You know what it turned out to be? That piece of foam along the edge of the motherboard (bottom left of the screen when you put the IPA on). For some reason, the tape covering it is conductive, and if it's not tucked in properly it can touch the capacitor and short it out. For me, it was folding over the motherboard and touching the cap when I closed the lid. I ended up just removing the foam. If you still have the laptop, test that foam in diode mode - I bet it beeps.
Mine "died" and repair shop said the motherboard was powered on but nothing on screen so needed to change the whole board. I'm considering buying a thermal camera, turning on the laptop as usual and try to find the shortage but you gave me hope. Mine is asus tuf 7061, idk if that's the same
I have the same problem.. notebook doesnt power on after fan replacement. After replacing it, as i put the battery cable back in, i saw, that probably the power button lit for short moment and i couldnt switch it on anymore. So what are the possible damages? Can i find/repair it without further knowledge in electricity and stuff? Help os really appreciated❤
Nice and simple fix, IR camera working miracles. Btw we didn't see you replace the capacitor. I assume you replaced it with a new one higher voltage same capacitance?
did you replace that capacitor or just remove it? It looks like there was a hard cut in the video right after you removed it and then you were all of a sudden putting back the heat sink.
The middle PIN in those ASUS laptops [FX705 FX705D FX705DT FX86F FX505 FX505D FX505GD FX505GE ] does absolutely nothing. It is just for "decoration". You can check that in any schematics of those... Conclusion is not to worry about it. ;)
You can judge by measuring the size of the cap with a caliper, against an SMD cap chart, or desolder a neighboring same-size good cap and measure it, or look up the value(s) in the device's service manual.
@Mr Guru If the dimensions and color of an SMD capacitor match, the odds of a malicious designer specifically spoofing a component are extremely small.
I have a couple of questions please! Where can i buy a thermal camera like this? Second, what machine are you using to push in voltage to a laptop? Never heard of anything like that!
I'm a hobby repairist. In my few repairs I have done I'm unlucky to have done only 1 repair ever where there is a short capacitor whereas the short capacitor problem seems very common in UA-cam participants. I feel unlucky.
Wow Sorin, you have been on a roll with the videos. Much appreciated.

You will probably never get this question answered. Will be nice dough...
Thank you very much teacher SORIN 😊

don't need
Best work Sorin.... I
"Think about it, if there is no capacitor, it cannot be shorted." xD
Thank you Sorin
Hey
Am pretty sure I saw this listed on ebay. Infact I was one of the bidders 😅

How do you know which is the correct value for the particular capacitor?

Great teacher
Good job mate 👍

Do you know how to connect cd player , from outside.
I have a couple of questions please!

IT'S REMARKABLE HOW YOU POUR THE KNOWLEDGE INTO OUR ALIEN HEADS SORIN...
Do you have the schematic
Anyone know where I can buy a new motherboard for Acer Swift 3 SF314-59-75QC? I bought in U.S. but now live in Thailand. Thank you.
*Great again!!*
Buy ☑️ a kit of charging heads from china.
It's very helpful.

Sorin forgot to say "I'll replace the capacitor"!!! :)
True! :D
to be clear....in case of complain.....of course Sorin change the capacitor after record^^
Always! :D
sir please help me. i need file board view fx507dt
Cool..
Supper
That capacitor is not a critical component it will work fine without it.
It looked weird, ie, the black mark looks like it was shorted with a screwdriver - lol -.
4:50 gone, gone gone. 😅
It doesnt have middle pin.
Se vede ca a facut scurt pe el. La atins cu ceva ....
To all of the new people in the comments, I can confirm that sorin always replaces capacitors, there is no need to look any further okay?
Not so lucky when he gets his bill for 250 quid. Expensive cap.
Well, the money i took for that repair is £75, but if you charge £250, good for you
I also wanna be this lucky 😂 I really need a thermal camera and a better microscope .....
Man, good job but your camera is crossing my eyes. 🖐🏻
