- Diane Abbott has said she was "shocked" to hear she would be banned from running as a Labour MP but vowed she would not be "intimidated" by "forces beyond all of our control" when speaking at a rally in her constituency on Wednesday.
The fate of Ms Abbott's candidacy has been a key question for Labour since the start of the campaign with Sir Keir Starmer saying "no decision" had been made over whether she could stand earlier on Wednesday.
She had the whip restored on Tuesday, but reports suggested she believed she had been barred from standing in Stoke Newington and Hackney on July 4.

Ask your Irish, Jewish or Afro-Carribean friends at work, school, sport and see the difference in experience they have when dealt with discrimination based on so called ''race'' in the UK.
I don't think she was referring solely about present day experiences. She was speaking about these ethnicities' historical circumstances as well. When one looks at the whole historical experience of these peoples to suggest that Jewish people are "basically white" and they haven't been treated as badly as African descended people is just a poor grasp of history. The National Socialist Holocaust was just the worst and most famous of their persecutions over the centuries. Tsarist Russia was particularly brutal to them as well with regular pogroms. She's like our version of Whoopi Goldberg in that sense. The only difference is that Whoopi is just on the telly and not scrambling for a governmental Cabinet position.

@@MrResearcher122 That's... debatable. If you're talking about their historical exile and subsequent wandering through Europe then yes slavery was worse. If you're talking about the treatment they received it all depends upon which countries you're specifically talking about. Some were worse than others and the persecution happened over a much larger timeframe. Some of those Russian pogroms were little more than murder-fests and we don't need to get into WW2 and all that business.
And yes, the Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jewish peoples are the descendants of Biblical Jews although they have picked up some other DNA on their travels. The people they're genetically closest to are those in the area they originally came from because they mainly kept their ethnic integrity (with some exceptions) over the centuries.

I think Ms Abbott should fight with full force, with the full backing and support of her entire constituency, she should take this matter now to a court for proper adjudication based on the merits of the case. In the opinion of most knowledgeable people, Kier has most improperly banned Ms Abbott from fighting the next election as a Labour Parliamentary Candidate.
Kier is playing with time by holding up a decision, but he really lacks the political foresight. He has destroyed his own chances of continuing as a leader of the Labour party. His suspension action against Jeremy Corbyn was also quite extra-ordinary and unacceptable and this will be confirmed by the voting public.
Jeremy Corbyn is now an independent Parliamentary candidate and is most likely to win his election by a very high majority of votes in his favour. This in itself will be a slap on the face of Kier, showing that his decision making is defectively short sighted and it seems very likely that in the hope of reforming the labour party, as he claims, he may completely damage the reputation of that party and all the good people may slowly join other parties or it may give rise to the NEW Labour party which will have explicit policies about the type of behaviour given to Ms Abbott & Mr Corbyn who have worked as excellent MPs during their entire life time.
