Have I ever seen someone try Terry Black's for the first time? Yes I have. Have I ever seen people eat the brisket and beef rib with a knife and fork? No I have not.
I'm a native Texan and do that as well. Of course I do have a full beard so things like a giant beef rib and beard doesn't mix well in public😂 I do each brisket by hand, but I cut it into manageable chunks first.
@@andrehenry3497 I would've done the same. It's not a sin to reduce the amount of fat going into one's body. There's still marble fat distributed throughout the meat.
When the both of you are able to vacation from work again, you should travel to Louisiana and try some gumbo, crawfish boil, and even some jambalaya just to name a few food items. Love that the both of you are enjoying living here in the US.
Mustache'd and bearded folks might prefer neat, bite-sized, but hopefully they'll want to wash their faces afterward anyway. Avoiding that "old ashtray syndrome" is a good goal.
I can't wait until you start exploring some of the smaller towns in Texas such as Fredericksburg, Roundtop, Shiner, Lagrange, Luling, Fort Davis, Bandera (try the pickles from fickle pickles), Marfa, Rockport, Jefferson, San Marcos, Lockhart, etc.
Need to do Shiner on a brewing day when they're cooking the wort. It smells SOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD! I used to sit on the porch of the ATT office when the wind was right and just enjoy the odors wafting in. Do a flyby in Beeville, it's nice here...
Peaches are harvested from San Saba "northwest of Austin" way down past Fredericksburg and towards' Junction. And other parts of Texas, probaby near Houston.
Another great video, keep up the great work. Using a fork and knife on a brisket and beef rib was a new experience. You 2 need to get a little phone stand and sit next to each other when doing these tastings. Make it a much better experience for everyone.
Definitely need to do a bbq pilgrimage to Lockhart. There you have the original Terry Black’s, and also Kreuz Market - which doesn’t get UA-cam attention but I insist is the best of them all.
First of all, welcome to the USA! We are glad to have you here. You picked a wonderful place to live and I'm sure you'll have many wonderful years living in Texas because it a wonderful state with allot to offer.
Except Black's in Lockhard... or Kreuz's in Lockhart... or Lockhard's City Market... Snows... Franklin's... Cooper's... Schulenburg's... on and on. The good thing - there are 100 great joints and a person making 'best' judgments should visit them all, and find the rest in a 100 mile radius of Austin. After that, there's chicken fried steak wars to join. Then tacos...
There are other places who do brisket or beef ribs just as well as Black's, but in my BBQ journey I've found that Black's is the only one that has exceptional brisket, beef ribs, sausage and smoked turkey. Their sides (less important to me) are also done well. A lot of BBQ joints do one thing well and everything else either average or below average, Black's does the most difficult thing...and that is consistency with everything they do. Of course I've only been to Black's and Terry Black's in Lockhart...and never tried everything on both menus at once, but I've made the pilgramage 4 times in my life and never been dissapointed.
@@bitfenix90 I've seen bigger, but also much smaller. That wasnt the original Terry Black's they visited...quality always seems to take a dip (even if slightly) when the original branches out to different locations. They may try to do things as they were taught, (including buying their meat) but it's never exactly the same.
@@jbm0866 The adventage/disadv of 'branches' is that Terry spent 30 years learning who produces the best quality beef. Jim Franklin only needed 10 but, those were prime years for beef ribs and everyone else had to chase his lead. But they did, and how best quality meats are known. So are their prices, which is why many shops don't carry beef ribs, or good ones. "We can't expect patrons to pay $30-40-50 per rib!"
The owners of Terry Black's did purchase some land here in Houston a couple months ago and it's in the works so it's just a matter of time before they get to building and open it
Welcome to Texas. It's a whole different country here and we love it. We have some of the best food on the planet and the nicest people. They mind their own business unless you need help. Then they're right there in a second if you ask for it. You should do a short tour of Gulf Coast food. Louisiana is outstanding and here on the Gulf Coast we have fantastic dishes like shrimp tacos and cowboy caviar - along with our brisket. We hope you decide to stay.
Oh, one more comment before I go, but this is very very important. Now that you guys are accustomed to driving vast distances without leaving the state of Texas, you must visit Lockhart Texas, the unofficial BBQ capitol of the state. Not only does it contain the original Black's, but also Terry Black's first place, and also Kreuz market and Smitty's. I can't remember what each place specializes in at the moment, but instead of limiting yourself to one place you'll want to try the specialty of each. If you don't have the time (or stomach) for doing it all in one go, multiple visits are in order. It's a small town so not much to do other than eat, but it's a pretty drive in spring or late fall.
Man there's quite a few great spots in houston for bbq. Ones that're nearby me I absolutely love are Truth Bbq & The Pit Room. Killen's is also incredible.
While Terry Black's has become more of a tourist trap over the years thanks to UA-camrs etc. it's still an incredible BBQ joint. Franklin's might be a tad better overall for some people, but Terry Black's is amazing and always a great choice for good BBQ. Plus, what makes a BBQ joint are the sides and TB has some awesome sides. The beans with the brisket in there, top tier stuff. I haven't been to TB is like 20 years and I miss having that kind of BBQ so much.
You will find as Brits Josh & Ollie did (JOLLY) American South is a great place to live ... Texas, Carolinas, Georgia & more WILL BRING YOUR TASTE BUDS UP A FEW RUNGS ! Welcome and God bless, jj
Welcome to Texas. This video makes about a dozen times I’ve seen Brits trying Texas BBQ and eating tor meats with silverware and cutlery. This is not a fine dining environment. Here’s a tip to assimilate into the culture: When it comes to BBQ, silverware and cutlery is for sides. You’re going to have to lose some of that stuffy formality and relax, lol. Pick up that meat with your hands and enjoy it. And carving off the fat? Fat is flavor, and for BBQ in the elite quality of Terry Blacks, the fat should be perfectly rendered and melt in your mouth.
if the meat is very good, why do you have to put rub on it? Salt, pepper, garlic, onion, parsely, chili powder, brown sugar, cayenne...but BBQ sauce is somehow...over the top? Weird.
@@clinroatan That’s kinda like how my mom, who grew up in Queens, never visited the Statue of Liberty.. lol.. It might say “Texas,” but that doesn’t necessarily mean Texas.. But, like I said, a few use seasoned salt, which has all that in it..
Welcome to Texas. This style of higher end bbq is a relatively new thing. This is not what most Texans grew up eating. I would recommend trying a place like Rudy’s (if you haven’t yet) for a more authentic (and less expensive) experience. I haven’t been to Terry Black’s, but I’ve noticed a lot of these high end places are hit or miss on the sides. And the sides are so important because the meat is so, so heavy. The brisket most of us grew up eating was far leaner and needed bbq sauce. In the Houston area, try places like Killen’s, Corkscrew, etc. for the higher end stuff.
I live in San Antonio and of course we never get anything good down here so when I saw Terry Black's BBQ on a channel based out of the UK I've been asking friends to go wiry me as it's to much food for me plus I'm not making a trip to New Braunfels by myself just to try it even though I can already tell it's going to be great.
Y'all should go down to South Padre Island and visit the Rio Grande Valley. The folks down here will treat you like family. Y'all won't leave the Valley hungry.
Just a suggestion, but if you’re going to try central Texas style barbecue, you should do it in central Texas. There are at least 7 or 8 barbecue joints here, that are better than Terry Blacks in Fort Worth.
Sasha or Sacha reminds me of the wife I had. She looks and sounds small too. My wife was 4'8". Id bet your girl is no higher than 4'11". lol you two are so cute together. Glad you liked the meats. If you're planning to move to the US you have to learn how to eat Bar BQ the American way....without utensils. 😉❤️
i eat with utensils cause i touch my hair a lot and don't want the grease to get everywhere, unless i'm at home. to each their own.

Ribs!!! My hubby does the brisket, I supose fork maybe? But brisket done right doesnt need a knife. But I USE Fingers!!! Only way to eat ribs.
She cut the fat off before eating the rib, I'm not even a Texan and that kind of hurt

You could actually go to the original Terry Blacks in Lockhart Texas as well. But it's only a few minutes closer than Austin. But much less traffic.
It's just Black's, the family's original one.
so prim and proper... Texas BBQ meats are "finger foods", thats why there is an endless supply of paper towels near the table...
I was full on offended when she cut off the fat and then used a knife and fork to eat the rib meat. LOL
