Hi all. I don't know/understand how this video got so much traction lately. I just want to clarify one thing: this video was made a long while ago and I only used this system for when I am leading worship with a friend on Zoom during lockdown. I wanted more control and functionality beyond what I can get with VM, which is why I connected Reaper to VM this way. I don't use this system outside of this purpose and would revert back to my Focusrite ASIO for my regular audio setup. Besides that: - A1 is your main ASIO. You can only use 1 ASIO system at a time. You can assign other output options on A2, A3... and so forth like I did in my tutorial. It just won't be an ASIO system. - Keep Reaper opened (do not minimised) while using Rearoute as your main ASIO. Otherwise you lose audio for everything as it is your current ASIO system. I was not recording while leading worship, so my non-gaming laptop worked fine when I kept reaper up the whole time. - If you can't find rearoute in VM, you'll need to install the 32x version of reaper as VM uses 32x. I use and paid for VM Potato. - IDK how to use Restream and decided to go this route cz this made sense to me lol
Hours and hours of searching and asking on multiple forums and your video is the one that got me what I needed, although sort of indirectly. Thanks! For anyone else who might be struggling, I was using Banana and my Rearoute channels wouldn't appear. Turns out, it was because Banana is 32bit and Potato is 64bit. Banana wouldn't work with my 64bit Reaper but Potato did.
For those who can't find ReaRoute for VM- Voicemeeter uses the 32 bit version so you have to install reaper 32 for windows Additionally when you install Reaper again, make sure to click the include rearoute for installation!
Maybe someone can help me out. So I did everything, and i got it to the point where my reaper audio is being rerouted to Zoom. However, i dont get any audio back. I can hear myself playing through Reaper, but i can't hear anyone else on the Zoom call. I also can't hear the audio from VM, but maybe i just misunderstood that.
so i followed what u did there but i got no sound on my headphones? May i know what is your mic settings both on the input of VM and windows sound settings? Im just trying out my audio-technica headphones thats connecte4d with a mic
I can't figure out how to setup my XLR mic & my USB headset mic up via Reaper/Voicemeeter this way Q_Q I think the main problem is that my speakers also plug into my interface, experienced some insane feedback when I was fooling around with it all... :(
i have a question... you s\answers seem so simple, they're literally a sentence in a comment section :) I simply want to add compression to my computer's standard output. I am watching youtube videos, and would like to control their dynamics a bit. What is easiest way to do this?.. I do have reaper, and am familiar w daws and routing... to varying degrees... still working on improving my knowledge... ESPECIALLY with deep hardware-midi stuff. Thank you!
I can not, for the life of me, get ReaRoute to show up in Voicemeeter :( I reinstalled Reaper to ensure that I have ReaRoute itself installed, I can see all the options popping up as sends in the master track now as well, and I've even managed to get OBS to successfully recognize ReaRoute as a viable ASIO through the use of the ASIO for OBS Plugin. I can record video with DAW audio, however, some of the finer intricacies like having the microphone active at all times even when I'm switching between projects is better suited for Voicemeeter set up. Any idea why ReaRoute doesn't show up as an option in Voicemeeter?
Hey buddy! Thanks for stopping by. I'm sorry you're having a lot of issues with this. I saw your previous comment last night (my time) but I wanted to reply in the morning. Let me see if I can help you out. I may have failed to mention that VoiceMeeter is a 32-bit application. So if you're using the 64-bit Reaper, ReaRoute will also be a 64-bit driver. Try installing a 32-bit Reaper so you can have the driver show up as ASIO on VM? I have the 32-bit Reaper on hand, but I am still using 64-bit no problem. I know you mentioned something about the sound "closing" when you minimise Reaper, I'm wondering if you're still curious about this? I usually keep it open during service as the smallest window possible just to see the levels. I hope this helps!
Additional comment because my ADHD brain skimmed through but didn't quite address your issue: 1- My previous reply is for you to set up ReaRoute as your main device in A1. If that's the route you're still going for, go for it. 2- I have no idea why Reaper does not show up on VM. Funnily, it did for me last night during a musical brainstorm sesh on discord, and then a second after that there was no audio coming out on my Virtual Input. Just thought I'd mention that. If you are switching between projects a lot and want to keep your mic active, personally I would set up my mic device in VM and keep that on the whole time. There may be some latency if you like monitoring yourself. And you will have to constantly add ReaRoute as an additional hardware output each time you open a new project, which can get tedious overtime. So if VM does not seem ideal for you anymore, I would recommend SAR Audio (Synchronous Audio Router). "Synchronous Audio Router lets you route audio from any Windows application through a DAW (digital audio workstation) application, giving you an immense amount of control over your system's audio."
@@simminglymel @Ambiguous Dust I randomly ended up with the solution about this: just switch from voicemeeter banana to voicemeeter potato as she does in the video and rearoute will be now avaiable! Voicemeeter potato is x64, that maybe could be the reason!

Just trying to have a processed voice signal and processed guitar on reaper and trying to route them with Potato and have a correct monitor signal without latency but it seems is not working haha.
Thanks for this! I love your style- subscribed! I see your comment below though and sounds like you are saying this is outdated? I am new to reaper, but nut have used VM for years. I reinstalled Reaper and now have rearoute. I selected rearoute in send (outputs) as you described. However, restarting computer and VM still does not show rearoute as an option in A1. Any thoughts? Any other "updated" recommendation for efficiently connecting reaper with least amount of changes every time I try to use them? Thanks!
It is outdated simply because I do not have use for Reaper + VM anymore, thus not keeping in touch with updates, if that makes sense? In terms of why it's not showing up, there is a comment below about the different bit types and you need to match your Reaper and VM. Try that and see if works for you?
You need any decent ASIO driver for low latency, then lower the sample rate. ASIO by itself doesn't do anything but switch audio to kernel level so it takes less cpu power. In doing that it allows you to manually set a lower sample rate without overloading the cpu which causes crackling. 128 samples is a good start, you may be able to go as low as 64 if you have a good system.
Can you please elaborate a bit about what you have done in System Settings of Voicemeeter. I do not understand how It fits with the rest of the setup. Thanks.

Great video. I got ReaRoute working, that is great. I installed VM potato and issues began. I'm running Windows 11, probably I have to wait for official VM support for Win11. After install Potato, run once, exit. Then upon entry to sound settings the sound settings app itself would crash. I uninstalled VM and it's ok. Just a warning to people, and a question if anyone has VM working on Win 11.

Assuming A1 is Reroute, you can use A2 for your speakers.
When you switch A1 to ReaRoute how do you hear anything else? I lose audio to chrome, discord etc.
Keep Reaper opened / stay on top and see if you still have audio. Since Reaper is your A1, it needs to stay opened.
