OK, BURTON’S Batman movies are my absolute FAVORITE!!! I remember walking out of the theatre with my brother and female cousin. I was the Penguin, bro was Batman, and my cousin was Catwoman. Literally one of the BEST memories of my childhood! Even to this day, I watch it AT LEAST 5 times a year. I love it!
This movie is amazing. Bruce Wayne is the mask for Batman and Selena Kyle was the mask for Catwoman. The dance scene between them where they realize who they really are is amazing. Michelle’s acting is superb. I love this movie. I’m 44. The older I get the more amazing the movie is.
Agree. Burton and Keaton understood better than anyone else in films that Batman was the real identity. That's why Keatons Bruce was awkward and high strung around others, except for when he's in the cave or talking to Alfred, when he can be truly himself. And the way the movie ends- Bruce finding himself in the EXACT same place as Vicki Vale in the first movie, now having met his match.
I was born in 1990 and remember this being my absolute favorite Batman (along with the animated series) when I was a little kid. I could never sit through the original '89 Batman or Batman Forever cause I thought they were boring but would watch this one all the time and me and my friends and my sister and her friends used to act out the scenes together.

MITCHELL WIGGS in my opinion Batman returns is really stupid. It’s so dumb at times. I like the dark and gory tone but that doesn’t mean the movie is good.
This and Mask of the Phantasm are the best hands down. DeVito is just an incredible, SEVERELY underrated actor. The only thing wrong with this movie is the stupid cd crashing scene and the iffy mini batmobile scene. Those two scene sink this as a masterpiece. Burton KNOWS Gotham and Burton's Gotham IS Gotham. Keaton IS Batman. This IS Batman's theme and DeVito and Catwoman ARE Penguin and Joker.
Not necessarily in order, but the top three catwoman performances are Michelle Pfeiffer, Anne Hathaway and Julie Newmar with Eartha Kitt a close fourth. The bottom one is easily Halle Berry in Catwoman. There is no contest. And her performance was better than that of her villain Sharon Stone.

Danny DeVito deserved a Oscar for his performance of the Penguin. Not only was he was incredible but he was also unrecognizable. With the makeup, the the voice, and the mask it didn't feel like I was watching Danny DeVito, I felt like I was watching the penguin. In my opinion he owned this role just like Health Ledger owned the Joker role.
michelle pfeiffer is the reason why people went to go see this movie... i was very young back then and i just could not get enough cat woman in this movie... she arroused my spiriits...
Dude, something tells me that what happened is that you were afraid of offending Nolan's trilogy followers (the only kind of person that may say the old movies are bad just to "protect" the DK trilogy... once other people started saying the old ones were better). I have never met someone that had actually seen the movie without prejudice and said it was bad, they may say there are better movies, but they all agree this movie is awesome when talking about it. In short words, don't trust nor obey the internet, you know it is a good Batman film, why deny it or disguise it?
We all know Schumacher's Batman movies were utter garbage. But it's my *personal opinion* that Nolan's 3 were just awful as well, for different reasons. Michael Keaton & Burton worked great together (we got BEETLEJUICE between Bat-Flix!). Everybody is supposed to say Ledger was the "Ultimate Joker". We only say that cuz he's dead and rumors said the role drove him mad... or more likely designer drugs. He had no jokes! Evil, yes. "Clown Prince of Crime" never. Nicholson is the pinnacle. Squirting flower, trick music box, Joy buzzer, chattering teeth, 4ft pistol, and Jack's unmatched ability to play utterly insane and love it! He had fun! Ledger licked his lips way to much and got the Suicide Pity Praise! )like Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain). Keaton plays a perfect nut job too! I also hate Nolan's Batmobile utterly. The kids growing up thinking it was "cool" didn't experience the Burton-era Batmobile. Great vid! I subscribed! I kinda feel like you should be wearing a "Frankie Say Relax" shirt! 🙂👍
em D I watch BM Returns so much, my favorite Batman movie for two decades. I even had the Super Nintendo game too, this was my most favorite Batman movie until the Heath Ledger’s Joker movie, I (at that time) didn’t even care to go see that movie than I came out of the theater blow away by Ledgers insane Joker. I wasn’t even a Heath Ledger or Christian Bail fan when the movie came out. I didn’t even seeing Batman begins.
I absolutely love Batman Returns. The dark gothic fairy tale vibes, the look of Gotham, the amazing addition of Pfiefer and Devito, and it's a Christmas movie! Flawless Victory.
Don't know what it is you are going through but if you are still going through it or something else just know that Jesus loves you and hopefully some people in your life love you as well 🙏🙏🙏
I heard that there was a scene cut where a newspaper says "Joker's body goes missing" because Burton wanted to set up the Joker's return in the 3rd movie
It was underrated, but I remember when it came out I was looking forward to it. It was simply the bar set by Jack in the first one that people didn’t feel Danny could live up to, or maybe the Joker character sets a bar that people didn’t feel the Penguin character could live up to, or both, but either way very underrated.
Yep that's right, I've addressed this in other videos, they just re-used moulds from the Super Powers line-up which were based on the sophisticated bank robber Penguin, not the gritty dirty sewer Penguin from 'Returns'. It was either done out of laziness or because they thought DeVito's Penguin was too vulgar to turn into a children's toy!
This movie is Batman at his most bad ass, from the sorrowful start thru The Circus Gangs first assault on Downtown Gotham, their attempt at kidnapping of Gotham's rich children to that awesome sequence of Batman in his bat-sub.It was just a dark and grim yet fun movie...unlike B v S or MoS.
yea with Ben Afflecks Batman they are going out if their way to make him a mean scary badass where as Keaton Batman was naturally badass. If someone got in his way he'd just kill them off problem solved (like when he burned the guy with the Batmobile exhaust). Real badasses don't need to boast and brood about how bad assey they are they just get thr job done and end of :)
That's weird. I actually have some movie-Penguin figures and toys from back in the day when the film first came out. One of them is even a really nice, detailed figure that's like 8" or so tall I think and looks exactly like the the film. (Came with a felt overcoat, but that sadly got lost long ago) Didn't realize they never made a proper regular-sized action-figure. That's a real shame.
Raven Black I love it when she looks up in the sky and shakes her little booty in the end! Lol If James Cameron can return to the Terminator recently, so can Tim Burton. Would love to see a solo catwomen Tim Burton style
Batman Returns is perhaps the most evocative of the franchise because when the Emperor Penguins slid his body back into the abandoned Zoo's pool at the Polar Exhibit the audience had sympathy not vengeance for the Villain unlike the others in the series. To be fair Batman/Robin was intentionally more kid friendly on purpose and was more of an homage to the 60s TV Series which like the film is a bit of a romp if you don't take either seriously. Indeed more complex/darker themes was a growing trend in films of the genre a decade later and even the MCU earliest entry's were part of that transition and today Batman Returns would be a bit to neo gothic to be made now. It's rare for these films to be set in any other but familiar surroundings cities are today and about the only time they do is a CGI landscape/building/lair from a Comic/Graphic Novel that you wouldn't find but in its pages...
This is my favorite Batman movie. It's kinky as well as dark and brooding, but the chemistry between Keaton and Pfeiffer made their romances feel genuine. I love Selina's line "does this mean we have to start fighting?" once they recognize each other at the ball.
I remember those Happy Meal toys! How can we sell burgers when..."uh Penguin. Killing sleeping children. Isn't that a little...?" Bang! "No! It's a lot!"
Beautiful work Minty! This was actually one of my favourites back in the day. All the actors did an absolutely fabulous job with their characters. I feel DeVito is the best penguin to date. Michelle’s Catwoman was absolutely inspiring and Keaton has always been my favourite Batman strait from day one. But what got me most was the dark city of Gotham. It’s massive scale (Yes very much like Metropolis!!!) incredible attention to detail l, it married into the retro comic book style too. Completely ahead of its time. I really wished this had turned into a trilogy with Keaton and Berton coming back for a third and final time it would have been a beautiful way to wrap up this series. It’s very rare when a sequel is just as memorable as the original. Gonna go downstairs now and put up my Keaton Batman poster now. Keep it up Minty these in-depth looks into the “old” movies I grew up on are really blowing the cobwebs from my mind.
do people really hate on this film? why? this is my favorite in the series, and if its so awful, then why does it have an 81% on Rotten Tomatoes? again, my favorite.
batman returns was a great film. my only complaint was that it felt like tim burton movie than a batman film if that makes any sense. rotten tomatoes doesn't mean shit btw.
NicktheDummy Carothers people don't hate this film. McDonalds did and Warner Brothers thought it was a misfire at the time, but we all know it's awesome..
I liked it as a 13 year old in the theater, then bought the VHS. It wasn't long before I realized how horrible this film is and how inconsistent it is from what came before.
this was always my favorite rendition of Batman. The goth in me loved the whole dark, romantic noir setting. The geek in me loved the costuming, plot and Burton.
Batman Returns is everything a movie should be. It also didn’t have a happy ending. That was a huge risk in 1992 for any kind of movie. It’s the best Batman movie of all time and best Bat suit.
I don't understand,I love Batman Returns and in my opinion is the best Batman movie to date. And who says no one remembers or talks about it? Michelle Pfeiffers cat woman suit is iconic!
Never thought of it as "forgotten" or ignored and also thought it was the second best of the original Batman film series. Loved the dark tone but also the campy-ness element along with probably the best cast of any Batman feature.
The gloom of Gotham City seems to be coming from the perspective of Batman, if you really think about it. And the darkness of Batman Returns was in tune with the manic depressive trend of the 90's.
To me it's the best. To say I was obsessed with this movie as a kid would an an understatement. First movie I can remember seeing at the movies. I'm sure I went before that but don't remember. Watched it everyday when I got it for Xmas along with toys from the movie.
Another interesting fact: Max shreck isn't as much of an original character as you might think. He's basically the movie version of a character named Rupert Thorne. His story is practically the same as that character, even his look is kinda similar. He's technically a combination of two characters, Rupert Thorne and Selina Kyle's abusive husband who was the reason for her becoming catwoman. They simply gave him a new name but as you can see he has quite a bit of comic roots.
I thought Batman Returns was a great movie myself and recall that Catwoman was critized for being way too sado masocistic for kids but you know, Julie Newmar was along those lines in her first appearance in the Batman TV show. Frankly i thought Michelle Pfiffer was fantasic as Catwoman but i did l Iike the later batman movies despite the fact that George Clooney was totally wrong for Batman, but being the poser he is the man made a hell of a Bruce Wayne.
I hope in the near future both movies get the credit and love they deserve Tim Burton was ahead of his time.Sadly the 1990s were too conservative for their time I bet you if this was made it would be called a work no matter how weird freaky and grotesque it is.
This film still ranks as one of my ALL TIME top 10 favourite films, along with 'BladeRunner', 'The Empire Strikes Back', 'Metropolis' and 'Donnie Darko' ! x
Also Burgess Meredith (who played penguin in batman 1966) was originally going to play penguin’s father ( Tucker Cobblepot) as tribute to his classic portrayal of the penguin which I think it would have been cool and amazing, but his illness prevented him from taking the role, so Paul Reubens took over.
I loved this movie so much when it came out, I swear I had my dad take me to see this at LEAST 5 times in the theatres. I also loved the music, bought the toys (including Robin) AND took interest in the comics. Although I never got as much into Batman as I did X-men, I enjoyed this time greatly. My dad, today, laughs at how much I was into this movie.
This movie is far from forgotten. So many people I speak to agree that Michelle Pfeiffer is the best Catwoman, so it's definitely remembered by a lot of people.

The 1989 Batman movie is the best. Batman Returns is good but it is not the best movie I have seen.
But tim Burton makes dark film s and not selling toys and burgers why Schumacher replaced him

I absolutely loved Batman Returns as a kid and still love it today. I was surprised to learn that it had been considered too dark, but looking back I guess it was pretty dark.
I had always hoped that they would have had Michelle Pfeiffer come back as Catwoman.
Nick Cadwell to old now
I know that. That's I why I said I had hoped. Cause when I knew 1999 came I around. I knew they wouldn't use her again.
Me too!
She'll be back as Catwoman Michelle Pfeiffer
(But maybe she has to do it Animated like DC did Adam west batman)
@@smhgaming3259 In 2020, Michelle Pfeiffer has said herself in an interview that she wanted to play the original Catwoman again in the Flash when Michael Keaton returned as Batman. She said she missed Catwoman.
Michelle Pfeiffer was hot in this movie
Absolutely
I agree!🔥
Well, hotter than normal ;)
First time I layed eyes on her I said "she's a tiger"
Another quaalude, she gonna love me again...
I love Batman 89 and Batman Returns 😎👍✌💖💗 Michael Keaton is an awesome actor😎👍✌💖💗
I remember this movie, cause the Penguin ending is so sad, genuinely made me feel sad :(
That was the genius of it all… Same way with Kilmonger in Black Panther. The villain was forced to be one and rather an anti-hero then the monster folks wanted us to believe
"things change. You really dont think you'll win do you?"
..........
"Things change"
I absolutely love this movie and will put this with Dark Knight as my two favorites. Great episode Minty!! Thank you sir
Agreed,, they are definitely the two best Batman movies..
Batman returns was as good as the first one. It was a shame Michael Keaton didn't do another one?
I agree
He hated the script but they want him in the batman beyond live action
I heard Michael Keaton does come back that's like the only good news 2020 has offered us.
Batman Returns was the best movie out of the two. I always thought it was beautiful, sexy, and awesomely balanced with its darkness. I love this movie
I remember this movie when I was a little kid it was awesome. I don't know why people don't like. Maybe they got no taste.
Yea I saw it as a kid too and I loved it, it had the most profound effect on me where as with Batman Forever, even as a kid I knew I was watching thoughtless mind fluff, pretty colors to try and keep the kids occupied for 2 hours
joe jones because at that time violence is not popolar to them
or maybe they have different taste than you do, arrogant buffoon
My thoughts are my opinions and yours are yours if you can not say anything positive or better yet if you can not say your negative thoughts to my face then shut the fuck up. Thank you.
"They wouldn't put me on a pedestal, so I'm laying them on a slab!"-Penquin
michelle pfeiffer is the reason why people went to go see this movie... i was very young back then and i just could not get enough cat woman in this movie... she arroused my spiriits...
Lol yeah she did, those tight ass outfits??? Oooooweeee lord have mercy. She was dead sexy.
Nobody forgot about catwoman
This guy is on crack because this movie kicks ass, a classic even with its mistakes
mrfrogbutt1 but if you watch the video I give it nothing but praise
Dude, something tells me that what happened is that you were afraid of offending Nolan's trilogy followers (the only kind of person that may say the old movies are bad just to "protect" the DK trilogy... once other people started saying the old ones were better). I have never met someone that had actually seen the movie without prejudice and said it was bad, they may say there are better movies, but they all agree this movie is awesome when talking about it.
In short words, don't trust nor obey the internet, you know it is a good Batman film, why deny it or disguise it?
who could....
Even if it wasn't Catwoman....lol
Batman returns was and has always been my favorite batman movie.
100
Tim Burton does the best Bat man movies I don't care what anyone says.
@@TheDanielplesca Actually yes he does. Read a comic lol.
em D it’s factual
@@erinlorca1240 maybe in his first appearance but not in his modern incarnation. Read a comic.

I watch BM Returns so much, my favorite Batman movie for two decades.
The dark atmosphere is one of the things that makes me love Batman Returns so much.
I absolutely love Batman Returns. The dark gothic fairy tale vibes, the look of Gotham, the amazing addition of Pfiefer and Devito, and it's a Christmas movie! Flawless Victory.
I love Batman Returns. Thank you for making me smile during a rough month for me. ☺️
I hope things are better now freind, keep yer head up! ☝😊 remember it can't rain all the time 🌞
@@pizzalovingtrashpanda8604 o that's an other great line from another great dark superhero movie
Don't know what it is you are going through but if you are still going through it or something else just know that Jesus loves you and hopefully some people in your life love you as well 🙏🙏🙏
To Raven and other struggling posters - may you find peace or the elements that make the rest worthwhile 🥺💝
GENERAL - I’ve survived various degrees myself and hope that you may find something which helps ease yours.
Good luck 🍀💝
I heard that there was a scene cut where a newspaper says "Joker's body goes missing" because Burton wanted to set up the Joker's return in the 3rd movie
Danny DeVito did for The Penguin what Heath Ledger did for The Joker
Arenzoj *SO* agree!!!
U deserve a 👑 for ur comment sir/mam.
Not really, I mean was there much difference costume or not?
So the second best
nolol
It was underrated, but I remember when it came out I was looking forward to it. It was simply the bar set by Jack in the first one that people didn’t feel Danny could live up to, or maybe the Joker character sets a bar that people didn’t feel the Penguin character could live up to, or both, but either way very underrated.
I ADORE BATMAN RETURNS
ITS MY FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS FILM.
Yes it’s more of a dark festive fairy tale featuring Batman but it’s rather brilliant
Same, along with Nightmare Before Christmas.
I thought Batman Returns was a good Batman movie.
King_Hyperion89 it is.
You were wrong mate ... Coz it is actually amazing.
The best !
me too i was 6 when it came out and thought it was bad ass then and now
I was crazy over this movie growing up. I watch it at least twice a year. It's one of my favorite movies. I'm a old school burton fan
I watch it around Christmas most years and I watch nightmare before christmas ever christmas eve.
I seriously love this movie with a passion!!! Catwoman is my favorite
Kathryn Estrello Ikr! This movie rocks#😉
It's amazing how this film has become the forgotten one.
It also has Paul Reubens, Pee-wee Herman as the Penguin's father.
If I'm not mistaken hes also in the gotham series
Omg really?. 😂.
Also pee wees girlfriend Simone is the mom
@@mkdesignstx Diane Salinger.
i hated the fact they didn't make an action figure for danny devitos penguin. they just re colored the penguin from the comic series figures. 😞
Minty Comedic Arts. Did you get a chance to check out my list of character match ups. That I posted on ten things you didnt know about Pennywise?
That's weird. I actually have some movie-Penguin figures and toys from back in the day when the film first came out. One of them is even a really nice, detailed figure that's like 8" or so tall I think and looks exactly like the the film. (Came with a felt overcoat, but that sadly got lost long ago) Didn't realize they never made a proper regular-sized action-figure. That's a real shame.
Honestly I haven't forgotten this movie at all. Have at home and love it so much.
OHH a Catwoman movie continuing Michelle's Catwoman? That would of been so cool. She'll always be the sexiest one.
Raven Black I love it when she looks up in the sky and shakes her little booty in the end! Lol If James Cameron can return to the Terminator recently, so can Tim Burton. Would love to see a solo catwomen Tim Burton style
Duggalo Oh man that be my ultimate movie wish. One can dream I guess. Yeah I'd go so gay for her.
Raven Black LOL That's sooo Raven!!
Duggalo Blllllhhh (Spits out drink)! Awesome! Dance my hired giggalo Duggalo!
Raven Black Lol you sound like a chick I'd definitely get along with
Batman Returns is perhaps the most evocative of the franchise because when the Emperor Penguins slid his body back into the abandoned Zoo's pool at the Polar Exhibit the audience had sympathy not vengeance for the Villain unlike the others in the series.
"Let's step outside."
Keaton and Pfeiffer used to date years before the movie, which probably accounts for why the onscreen chemistry worked so well.
I still have my original VHS. I would have loved to see Kim Basinger return!
Michelle Pfeiffer at her smokin' hottest! ❤
I remember those Happy Meal toys! How can we sell burgers when..."uh Penguin. Killing sleeping children. Isn't that a little...?" Bang! "No! It's a lot!"
"Definitely not the best Batman movie, ..."
Uh, yeah it is.
I couldn't believe he uttered those words. Shameful
tell that to Kevin Smith
I LOVE Batman Returns.
To this day, Batman Returns is my favorite!!! Seen so many times... I have it practically memorized line for line
do people really hate on this film? why? this is my favorite in the series, and if its so awful, then why does it have an 81% on Rotten Tomatoes? again, my favorite.
batman returns was a great film. my only complaint was that it felt like tim burton movie than a batman film if that makes any sense. rotten tomatoes doesn't mean shit btw.
@petercox9 movie is a long way from being reviled man.
this was always my favorite rendition of Batman.
FUCK YEAH. I absolutely LOVE "Returns". Possibly my favorite Bat-film... and one I watch religiously every Christmas. :-D
batman returns is a excellent movie its a true super-hero classic!
This movie is amazing! Love the whole thing. The first 2 movies are and will always be the best.
The gloom of Gotham City seems to be coming from the perspective of Batman, if you really think about it. And the darkness of Batman Returns was in tune with the manic depressive trend of the 90's.
totally agree. captured the manic depressive hyper pop and goth feel of the 90's perfectly. it fit.
Billy Dee Williams eventually got 2 play two face in Lego Batman
This brightens my heart and makes me smile :)
Minty Comedic Arts I thought that was cool, Billy Dee Williams got 2 fully play two face in a good Batman movie
No one talks about this one? This one is the best..
August Drengberg I literally thought I was alone with that. “Too dark”?!? Batman is a GOTHIC superhero 🤣
In France, a lot of people would agree with you. Including me
UK always loved this one too. Definitely one of my favourites, possibly 2nd after The Dark Knight.
@@GryphonICD I guess in Europe we are a bit more attracted to dark gothic ambiance
To me it's the best. To say I was obsessed with this movie as a kid would an an understatement. First movie I can remember seeing at the movies. I'm sure I went before that but don't remember. Watched it everyday when I got it for Xmas along with toys from the movie.
The best line of the whole movie is Catwoman's breathless, "Meow".
The second-best line is the explosion immediately thereafter. :)
It is the best batman movie...
To me this is the best batman movie! Keaton and phiefer and devito were awesone!
“Bruce Wayne? Why are you dressed up as Batman?”
“Because he is Batman!”
"Correction---was"
Batman Returns is one of my favourite films of all time.
I thought both Batman and Batman returns were awesome
I hope in the near future both movies get the credit and love they deserve Tim Burton was ahead of his time.Sadly the 1990s were too conservative for their time I bet you if this was made it would be called a work no matter how weird freaky and grotesque it is.
Batman Returns is still my personal favorite Batman movie. Thanks for putting up Facts that I never knew Minty!
they should gather Burton and Keaton to make a dark knight returns movie
Kentucky Fried Walken oh my GOD someone please make that a meme!!!!!🙏😂🤣
I was shocked when he said it 😂
An underrated classic. And a Christmas movie too!
This movie is far from forgotten. So many people I speak to agree that Michelle Pfeiffer is the best Catwoman, so it's definitely remembered by a lot of people.
In Canada, where I grew up, McDonald’s absolutely did Batman returns promotions! They released these glasses for your soda and I still have one!
