Bought it. Good, fast and sharp lens, with natural color. But its drawback and the price for the size is a strong vignette. The level of frame darkening at the edges at 28mm or 70mm is very strong. 🤗
I have this lense and I love it, super tiny and lightweight yet performs incredibly. Ive watched lots of comparisons between this and the 24-70. The 24-70 is sharper at 60-70mm but The 28-70 is actually sharper in the wide end, stays just as sharp if not sharper all the way to 50mm. And maintains better corner sharpness across the board. Its only the 70mm is falls off a bit. But for how small and tiny it is thats an easy trade off for me. Also auto focus is super quick and reliable!
Video intro is so polished and professional and the whole review is epic. Thank you for providing such a comprehensive review, with such a high degree of professionalism, from presentation to the details on the graphics etc. Ian (UK)
I wanted the 24-70 sigma art lens. I went to my camera store and the only one they had was the new 28-70 F2.8 DG DN And they said great things about it. I really thought I was going to need those extra 4 mm of 24 mm by after purchasing it I thought I was going to be sending it back. But I actually fell in love with the vines. You are correct it’s a little soft but I actually like that. When I do portraits with my other lenses I’m always having to lighten up the sharpening because the lenses are so dang sharp with people with bare skin. So this was really taking one less step out of my photo editing. It is a super light lens and it still plenty sharp. I’m used to heavier lenses big guy with huge hands and this little lens just seems so small on my camera. But it is actually really nice for weddings and not having such a heavy set up. My focal ring is still just as stiff as it was when I bought it last July. It’s a nice good lens and it is super silent when doing video mode. I’m just starting to learn how to do video work and I’ve been using this lens a lot with great success. At 28 mm I can focus on stuff almost as close as a macro lens, and the backgrounds look like I have an F1.2 lens on. Great video by the way and congratulations on 10,000 subscribers. I’m glad I’m one of them
Yeah that's right. When it comes to a human skin, this amount of sharpness is just right. And I liked it bokeh so much, it's vary natural and smooth. Very cinematic!! Thank you for staying with this channel. I'm glad you are one of them!!!
Ive seen the chart comparisons with this lense between the 24-70. This lense is sharper at 28-35. Even at 40-55 its on par but yet better corner sharpness compared to the 24-70. And its a bit softer at 70mm. But The fact that is beats out the 24-70 in the wide end with better corners and stays just as sharp most the way through is incredible if you think about it considering how small it is.
Hello Kensei. I enjoyed your enthusiasm and, especially, the comparison between the two Sigma zooms, which favors the Art lens more than I expected. I've been using the 28~70 for some months and enjoy it quite a bit. I bought it over the 24-70 because of its weight (470 gr vs 875 gr.) I also have all the contemporary primes except the newest 20mm. I would have opted for a 15mm or 18mm, but 20mm just call out to me. The 14-24mm F2.8 DG DN Art is fabulous, of course, but ridiculously heavy at 795 gr. When I need the last bit of contrast and sharpness over the 28~70, I favor the 65mm f/2. And, of course, the 24mm f/2 makes up for what the 28~70 doesn't offer at the wide end. By the way, I use my Sigma lenses in L-mount on the fp, a killer camera (with the LVF-11 viewfinder) in its own right. I find that with the 28!70, I rarely have the beed for my primes, which I have to say comes as something of a surprise to me.
Thanks for sharing your experience here. This weight difference is so huge. I can sacrifice the image quality for that. And Sigma fp? I always have been interested in that. Someday I might do the review.
@@KenseiAkatsu I tried the fp-L for a short while, and its 61MP sensor, but hated the EVF compared to the VLF, the magnification and brightness (ha!) was terrible. Yes, with the VLF you pretty much are limited to eye level viewing, which is OK for my purposes (Not for most people I imagine, however.)
I used to be hung up on 24mm as I had a 24-105 which was nice but looking at it moving forward I just picked up the 16-28 along with the 28-70. I still have my Canon 70-200 so when you look at it in that aspect Im really not losing anything but the image is so much so much better.
I just bought this Sigma 28-70mm lens and the Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro lens used for under $300 combined. Both were in excellent near mint condition. I think the owner was just trying to get rid of them and needed money considering these lenses still go for a pretty penny when new, I think just the 28-70mm still goes for $800 new.
I bought 28-70 f2.8 as a new lens, 1 year later sold it with small discount (I didn’t like the colour shift to yellow), 2 month later I bought a new one again, because it so light, and small, and good in every other aspect for every day use 😂 especially if you are shooting with one hand!!!!
Hi, it's obvious when you make the comparison that the Art is much much crisper and sharper. No need to zoom in ! Good job any how but this softness is a bad point according to me. 28 instead of 24 I don't care that much as I have a 16-35 Finally I will stick to my 24-90 even if it's heavy
Hi thanks for your excellent video. 400 grams of difference is important. to work at discos and in clubs which would you prefer between 24-70 and 28-70? Also to be mounted on the gimbal in some cases.
I’m considering buying this lens for my 7C II. The 24-70mm is just to big and heavy. I need 2.8 and at least 70mm l. I hope I won’t miss the 4mm on the wide

Hi--Just came across this review. I am going to invest in the new Panasonic Lumix S5 ii and am getting all the lenses for a trip to Japan I'm taking this Spring. Lighter and smaller is what I'm after as I'm moving over from the very portable Lumix micro four thirds line. I went ahead and purchased the Sigma 28-70 and paired with the Sigma16-28 f 2.8, which seems like a natural two-lens combo with similar builds and fast aperture. They're both very affordable too, which is what I was used to with m43 equipment. Thanks for your review and conclusion. It helped with my decision. Cheers!
I wanted to provide an update to say I decided against the Sigma lenses because they zoom and focus manually in the opposite direction of Lumix lenses. I have only seen one review that mentions this but it's a deal breaker for me because of decades of muscle memory of zooming in one direction. I used to use Nikon before switching to Lumix and the lenses operate the same way. I had mostly a complete set of Lumix m43 lenses but purchased one Olympus wide angle zoom. I never got used to using that Oly zoom due to it turning the opposite direction zoom. I ended up returning it. As much as I like the Sigma lenses on paper, I don't think I'd be happy if I always had to be thinking of which way to turn the barrel to zoom when I'm out shooting. I wonder if others have the same issue.
@@glennasakawa9880Muscle memory is something that you get used to pretty quickly. At least I do. I only see this being a problem if you are having to switch between systems or other lenses that work differently regularly. It would only take a short time to get used to otherwise imo.

@@glennasakawa9880 I took a single 24-240 lens to Europe and I was pretty happy with how the photos turned out. I think the new sony 20-70mm f4 is pretty interesting due to the small size. I think that maybe the tiny 35mm f1.8 Samyang and maybe a telephoto lens like the sony 70-300 could potentially make a nice travel combination that is fairly light and gives good options for wide angle, tele and low light (with the prime) while still offering very respectable image quality. The 24-240 I felt was a little bit of a sacrifice for image quality. Although the 24-240 leaves something to be desired in terms of image quality, I really think that having the 24-240 on my camera allowed me to get many more photos than a multiple lens combination would have allowed me to. I got images from on top of the Eiffle Tower that I never would have even thought to take if the 24-240 wasn't on my camera. They are framed and in my house. I think they are the only photos I ended up printing and framing from that trip too!
