  • What have you been told about what to do with your leg as you ride? Maybe put your leg at the girth, wrap your leg around the horse, feel your heel against the horse…
There are many different instructions riders are given and as is true with most riding advice, many common “instructions” may be great for one rider and not for another.
In this video, I will explain the principles of a leg position that helps keep you secure and give clear cues to your horse.

Great Callie - knees forward and down is a great reminder of position. Thank you.

with my horse Tara and I, I picture my legs as giving her a reassuring hug as my constant contact- thanks so much for your videos, they are great!

This is wonderful advice. I especially appreciate the advice about focussing on the knees moving foward and down (and keeping the joints soft in general). I'm sure that will make a big difference next time I ride. Thank you.

Thank you very much for your video - as always, very well-explained. I am now practising using my leg/calf aid rather than my heel aid to go forward. It mean reconfiguring my leg position into the classic position as you describe above.

I been told to wrap my legs around the horse as possible, specially when seated trot and canter, in order not to loose balance. I did not feel comfortable with that advise.
Thanks to a prior video of your you spoke about leg positioning, I follow your advise, and I succeed in seated trot, but not in seated canter, where I still squeez (mixture of fear and luck of experience, not finding the right position/firm stable contact. Is the squeez inevitable in sitting canter to hold balance ? thanks for the vidéo!
