Hong Kong Shrimp Wontons | Taste of Trini

- Wontons are my absolute favourite to order when I am in Trinidad, but some restaurants offer a very spicy version, called Hong Kong Wontons. It's a delicious stir-fry, comprised of deep fried wontons, lots of scotch bonnet peppers, onions, garlic, and some restaurants add carrots and sweet peppers.
I love this dish so much, and can't find it where I live, so I decided to make my own. Hope I did good :)
Here's what you'll need:
2 lbs of Shrimp, shelled and deveined
1 onion, sliced thinly (julienned)
8-10 cloves of garlic, sliced thinly
3 hot peppers (your preference)
1/2 cup of green seasoning
1 tablespoon grated ginger
1 teaspoon of soy sauce or a drizzle
salt (to your preference)
Wonton wrappers
Oil to fry
Drizzle of sesame oil

Hi, I'm from Trinidad but live in the US. I visited Trinidad this year for carnival and we had the hong kong wantons at the Yatch Club in San Fernando ... I loved it so much. Was fantastic. Always love my Trini food, I miss it
I've had wontons from Wing Wah and they were fantastic! It's a real honour to see you using the knife. The real pleasure was in the giving. This recipe is a keeper!

Great recipe! Wing Hua use a lot of pimentoes in their Hong Kong dishes(I am a regular😊) that was missing 👍👍👌👌

@@TasteofTrini you can do both pimento and hot pepper. Pimento adds a nice flavour

Sam Shepard Yes you can, but shrimp cooks so quickly that you don't need to pre-cook it. That hot oil will cook it in seconds.

the wontons u buy in the resutrants barely have any filling in them... wing hua isnt so bad.. i rather make it my self... i love the hong kong Squid tho!
Fahim Ali Yeah they mix it with flour as a filler. Yeah I like making it at home too. My brother told me the HK Squid is good so I will definitely try it!
