- On December 31, 2023, the Hot Wheels ID System will be discontinued, and apps and services associated with the toys will be discontinued. This means the app will no longer be available for new downloads, an users who have downloaded prior to the discontinuation will no longer have access on their devices.

It's expensive to run servers. Anything app supported only lasts 1-2 years until the millenial's attention span dies out then they no longer have the item anyway. I spent $800 on a LG gas stove, and in 1.5 years after buying it they deleted the app for it. It then became bought by a chinese scamware company unbeknownst to me, and upon opening the app my phone got corrupted by malware.
When the track first came out, the full kit, not the starter set, it was $200. This was not a cheap playset.

As of 5:15 pm PST on 12/30/23, the servers are already rejecting requests... a day early. So I can't even get final screenshots of anything in the app. Unless they open source some basic server code so we can at least still play the game with a local server (or they open source the full code base as you suggest in your video), I'm done with Hot Wheels and Mattel.
Yeah, I checked mine and it just comes up with a notice and locked my phone up. They couldn't even wait until 12/31/23 to kill it. Those bastards! Thanks for watching and your comment!
Make sure to let hackers be aware of it, someone will know how to dump the code off the servers and provide it to the public so it can be reverse engineered to connect to someone's server to trick it into thinking it's on mattel's server.
i will say with 100% certainty that in the future, maybe 10-20 years from now the small footnote that was Hot Wheels iD, will be majorly collectible, and I am sure someone will get the app reverse engineered to work without a server

Me too. I'm glad I bought a bunch of ID cars and the track set. It was fun to rack the miles up on the cars.

Edit I meant I had the app downloaded and the id was like off loaded so the id may not work for me but I may have a phone that still has the id app

Which had 1 shutdown in 2017 and the 2nd one shutdown in 2018

I only ran two Id Camaros The green '68, and the brown newer version (?year). I display them with my sweet 16 HW cars. It did remind me of my original 1968 Camaro Hot Wheels I got with my 1968 Hot Wheel Race set back in 1968. Nothing last forever. The original Redlines only lasted a few years. But, I would guess that the collector value of Id cars and Id systems will not be the same as the Redline era.

WHY MATTEL
Aw man, i have 2 hot wheel id cars (especially,hiway hauler and ranger ford raptor) and if I scanned on my phone it still works and also did the hot wheels id event closed?
Now they are technically just hot wheels cars
I froze them in water
And I was going to try and figure out if they still worked
Well now they will just be standard cars
Not cool my son just got this for Christmas!😢 keeps asking to load his cars! So not cool! They could have left the app is so dumb so made that was what he asked santa for to not have it work few days after! 😡

It was a stupid idea to a point. I managed to collect every single car, even the final 12. I was lucky enough to get those. I don’t know if I’ve already commented, btw, so forgive me if I’m repeating myself here. The online app junk was just that: junk. Zero challenge and waste of time. The track varieties were barely noticeable. The cars were all the same in terms of handling. If you had the money or points, then you could max out your cars. But there was no fun, no challenge or anything.
My kid still asks to play this. Really horrible what they did. Fortunately my kids will age out of hothweels soon, but what a waste of money. They're literal crooks since they sold this up until they killed the servers.
Yep... High tech toys are cool but there are disadvantages in the long run. This is also very true for all modern real cars.
they were still selling it because nobody was buying it. they had tons of overstock, you could sometimes find it deep discounted up to 50-70% off.

Wow, my 8yo wanted to play with his VERY EXPENSIVE track and cara… Honestly, it will probably cost Matel 500 bucks a year to keep the server up and running… but that’s the price I put on a smile of one of their little customers…

Last time playing this masterpiece, was my brother birthday. It was an exciting and saddest day. Because my childhood phone that i use to play since i was 9 was broken 😢. And the happiest thing in that day was that the last time i play this game. I just got my 1st HW id in this year. I just download the game and realize, that the server was closed. Now, its all nothing... . I still keep this game as a memory. Thanks... mattel, you're building my childhood. 🥲
R.I.P. hot wheels ID. 🪦 The thing is now, the expensive as hell tracks with the cars don’t even work properly, (being hooked up to the game.) Stuff like the speed and other stats and mechanics that were used in the tracks are now FULLY useless. Yes, the tracks work irl, but no in game in life stuff.
