Have kingdoms or if you are born into a prestigious family,

Even if you are an expert in six angas and the four Vedas,
An expert in writing good prose and poems,
If your mind does not bow at the Guru’s feet,

Even if you are considered great in foreign lands, dazzling in riches,
And greatly regarded in the virtues of life,
If your mind does not bow at the Guru’s feet,

Even if you are a king of a great region,
Used to praise and adoration,
If your mind does not bow at the Guru’s feet,

Even if your fame has spread world over,
And the entire world is with you because of your charity and fame,

On passion, Yoga, fire sacrifice,

I just want to say @Nick Wells you are a gem, I love how much you meaning and feel you keep in the music. I don't know how much you grew up or experienced in Indian classical music but I as a person of Indian heritage take my hat off to you. The words and emotions you are expressing and putting into the world have been sung for almost 1300 years. Whether you feel a part of the culture or not you are singing the words of generations of people, there is a direct line of humans who have sung these words, bringing joy and emotion to people. Long may it go on.
I can't express the joy I feel when I see hear music and traditions kept alive of all cultures and played by everyone, its in these moments i feel most apart and closest to everyone, the music belongs and speaks to everyone. LOVE IT. And if you didn't know that a lot of the Shlokas you were singing was taught and passed down by singing them pre-written language, again your also a part of that lineage literally 1000s of years of repetition in an ancient language no one speaks really anymore.
