He is quite meticulous on what role to play and his acting has always been solid. I am so glad his shot to stardom comes at a bit later age, so I cannot associate him with any cringy idol roles. This has greatly enhance my viewing experience and I will keep an eye on his dramas.

Wow! This must be fate, a few months ago, one of my Chinese friends recommended to watch NIF. I did and discovered Wang Kai. Then on, I was so impressed with his acting and other charms; I watched many of his dramas and movies. I'm sure that there are many good actors in China. But, Wang Kai possess his own unique style and charisma as an actor and moreover as an entertainer. I am very happy that I found him and appreciate his work. I am looking forward to watching his artistry in the future. Hopefully, he will continue perform in a long time as you mentioned. I am certain that he will act even better and deeper with his age. Yaay!! Wang Kai!! One of the first actors I came to love in Chinese drama land! Saw him for the first time in Love me if you dare where he left me with a serious second lead syndrome. Then saw Nirvana in Fire and was swept away! Also, who can ever not be mesmerised by his voice!
Here I am again to add some details left out: 1. When he was working in Xinhua Bookstore, he got an opportunity to shoot for an ad in Beijing. The director thought he was from one of the acting academies, and asked him 'are you from Central or Beijing Film?' The director was surprised that he was not and suggested that he could try. I remember he also said that he had interest in acting and did some for fun in high school. So because of what the directors said, he was encouraged to seriously consider getting into this profession and then went for preparing and applying for the academies. 2. Right after graduating from CAD, he purchased an apartment in Beijing because he was so confident that he had a bright future in front of him (he was already signed to Huayi Brothers). So one big portion of his expenses that pushed him to take that role Chen Jiaming in Ugly Betty and shot for 4 seasons straight was mortgage. 3. The first TV drama he was ever in was 寒秋 (literally: Cold Autumn). Wang Ziwen was the female lead in that drama, and they had their first ever kiss scene (hee hee hee~). I have to say they make really good couple on screen! I love Qu Xiaoxiao × Doctor Zhao, and the snail×lion couple is so cute!!
I don't understand why people would say that Wang Kai is thin. Hu Ge is thin, Wang Kai is not. Instead he comes across as someone who is tough and strong, a military man. Perfect for the role of Prince Jing. His acting is one that grows on you. You'd not notice him initially but once you see enough of him in c-dramas, you understand and appreciate his acting abilities.
You know, years after watching Nirvana in Fire, when I suddenly found myself reading fanfiction and Prince Jing's lines, Wang Kai's voice sounds really clear to me. Now that you mention it, yup, I finally know the reason.
Based on your story, Wang Kai is a hard worker, persevere, positive and humble person. I have huge respect for people like that. I understand him when he wanted more in life rather than working in a bookstore because i had (stil have) it too. I pray that he keeps these qualities when he becomes more famous and succesful. I remember the magical year of 2015! I was so impressed by both Hu Ge and Wang Kai with their very different characters in NiF and the Disguiser. I can see why NiF book fans objected to WK's casting, but his portrayal of Prince Jing really showcases the mental resilience and unwavering fortitude of the character, too stubborn for his own good haha. Next up can we hear about Huo Jianhua? xD

Didn't know he struggled in anonymity for so long prior to success.... Guess good looks and talent are not enough to make it in China entertainment circle, you need the Hand of Fate too
And if I could make a recommendation for your acting series, I would LOVE to know more about the voice actor that voiced Ye Hua and the other thousand male leads for the last couple of years. That dude’s voice was on EVERYTHING and honestly it always took me out of the drama because every time the male lead spoke, all I heard was Ye Hua. Off the top of my head, I’m positive it was his voice on the male leads in ‘General and I’ and ‘Love Lost and Times’.

The way he played the characters from teenage years and watch him slowly mature and grow old without a hint of awkwardness in between is such a joy to watch. Thank you for this! In addition to my last comment, actors and actress who are past 30s and even beyond should not disheartened by their age. You still have a large group of viewers some maybe your age group or older still.be your strong supporters. We recognise your talent, experience of life on your way to your achievement . Most of them whatever roles you play will fit in easily and can be more realistic because in real life you may have been there. Older artistes also have their own charm but their experience cannot be undermined.

Your addiction to voices is one that I can understand. It has been something that I have always noticed about the men that I have been attracted to. Now back to Wang Kai. Nirvana in Fire and then the Disguiser were not just top Chinese dramas, but I would consider them to be international top dramas. Very rarely do we see such a beautifully blended drama from anywhere in the world. Beyond compare. Wang Kai has also starred in several films I would like to recommend. I can't remember its name but he was playing the part of a highly decorated soldier in Mao's revolutionary army. The name mentioned something about a river. He was also in Jackie Chan's Railroad Tigers. Not the main part, but of course his charm and good looks make a major impression, especially on this old lady. Railroad Tigers is half drama and half comedy and beautifully acted by Kai and Jackie. Kai comes into his own towards the second half. I found it on Netflix, Australia and have been recommending it ever since. I might go and have another look at it myself!

There was a full length drama he did jin 2005 or 6 when still in college. Starring Opposite Wang Zi Wen (!);and Ding Yong Dai(!!). I used to take screenshots to compare them to NIF and Snail/Ode to Joy
Wang Kai is SO good at speaking x_X His delivery is amazing. 17:30 I remember the first time we see him, when he arrives on horseback and is super strict with his words. He presence was such that I immediately went "pls let him be a prince as well" keeping in mind that at this point I was extremely confused by everything as I haven't watched many dramas back then.
I was hooked when watching love me if you dare about half way. The drama got so boring (love the book, though) that I just skipped the whole thing and went to watch when snail falls in love. Yeah, very satisfying result, in terms of acting and cp (at least).
Which actor/actress will be the next in this series? Please next time consider some young actors 😁..... like, Liu Haoran, Zhou Dongyu, Jackson Yi, etc...♥️
This actors personal history and work ethic sounds so interesting, and come to think of it, I think I have seen him in the drama called "When the Snail Falls in Love" and "Love me if you dare" (neither of them did I finish, maybe I should re-watch them). Tbh, I loved him in Nirvana in Fire, but then when I watched Snail falls in love, I got kind of disappointed. The character was just so stoic and boring. It seemed like a watered down version of prince Jing. Seemed like he didn’t have much range tbh. I’ll try another drama of his tho.
It is an actor's job to bring out the character as written in the script. His range is huge. Have a look at Ode to Joy, Ugly Betty, Educated Youth, and you see totally different persons. His character in The Disguiser is also quite different from the Prince Jing character. See his performance in Like a Flowing River and in Serenade of Peaceful Joy , where he aged from late teens/ early twenties to his fifties (in Serenade). Not many actors can pull this off, in looks or in acting. The Hunting policeman is also different from the Snail policeman. As AX expressed, "真香“ ! It would be really boring if every character he plays is just like Prince Jing character. Haha. Happy watching.

I remember the magical year of 2015! I was so impressed by both Hu Ge and Wang Kai with their very different characters in NiF and the Disguiser. I can see why NiF book fans objected to WK's casting, but his portrayal of Prince Jing really showcases the mental resilience and unwavering fortitude of the character, too stubborn for his own good haha.

And if I could make a recommendation for your acting series, I would LOVE to know more about the voice actor that voiced Ye Hua and the other thousand male leads for the last couple of years. That dude’s voice was on EVERYTHING and honestly it always took me out of the drama because every time the male lead spoke, all I heard was Ye Hua. Off the top of my head, I’m positive it was his voice on the male leads in ‘General and I’ and ‘Love Lost and Times’.

You still have a large group of viewers some maybe your age group or older still.be your strong supporters. We recognise your talent, experience of life on your way to your achievement . Most of them whatever roles you play will fit in easily and can be more realistic because in real life you may have been there. Older artistes also have their own charm but their experience cannot be undermined.

Your addiction to voices is one that I can understand. It has been something that I have always noticed about the men that I have been attracted to. Now back to Wang Kai.
Nirvana in Fire and then the Disguiser were not just top Chinese dramas, but I would consider them to be international top dramas. Very rarely do we see such a beautifully blended drama from anywhere in the world. Beyond compare.
Wang Kai has also starred in several films I would like to recommend. I can't remember its name but he was playing the part of a highly decorated soldier in Mao's revolutionary army. The name mentioned something about a river. He was also in Jackie Chan's Railroad Tigers. Not the main part, but of course his charm and good looks make a major impression, especially on this old lady.
Railroad Tigers is half drama and half comedy and beautifully acted by Kai and Jackie. Kai comes into his own towards the second half. I found it on Netflix, Australia and have been recommending it ever since. I might go and have another look at it myself!

There was a full length drama he did jin 2005 or 6 when still in college. Starring Opposite Wang Zi Wen (!);and Ding Yong Dai(!!). I used to take screenshots to compare them to NIF and Snail/Ode to Joy

17:30 I remember the first time we see him, when he arrives on horseback and is super strict with his words. He presence was such that I immediately went "pls let him be a prince as well" keeping in mind that at this point I was extremely confused by everything as I haven't watched many dramas back then.
I was hooked when watching love me if you dare about half way. The drama got so boring (love the book, though) that I just skipped the whole thing and went to watch when snail falls in love. Yeah, very satisfying result, in terms of acting and cp (at least).
With that kind of looks, there's only one place to go in life, Hollywood.

Tbh, I loved him in Nirvana in Fire, but then when I watched Snail falls in love, I got kind of disappointed. The character was just so stoic and boring. It seemed like a watered down version of prince Jing. Seemed like he didn’t have much range tbh. I’ll try another drama of his tho.
It is an actor's job to bring out the character as written in the script. His range is huge. Have a look at Ode to Joy, Ugly Betty, Educated Youth, and you see totally different persons. His character in The Disguiser is also quite different from the Prince Jing character. See his performance in Like a Flowing River and in Serenade of Peaceful Joy , where he aged from late teens/ early twenties to his fifties (in Serenade). Not many actors can pull this off, in looks or in acting. The Hunting policeman is also different from the Snail policeman. As AX expressed, "真香“ ! It would be really boring if every character he plays is just like Prince Jing character. Haha. Happy watching.
