I swear.....3D Printers still blow my mind.
This is great. I never even thought about getting a 3D printer considering their prices. But for just $10 more than a 2DS XL, I might just get one of these soon. I loved the lego keycap. Or just the fact that you can print with enough precision to make a keycap for the Cherry form factor at all. I also love DIY stuff, so that's a plus for me.
i have bought the printenr and have been using it for a few months now and its great
my prints come out really crisp and look amazing.
its realy a cheap printer but if you put some time into it than it can be an amazing printer to start with.
indeed the mains wiring might be a bit scary becaus its... well you know mains power, but aslong as you dont touch it your good. i do how ever recommend makeing a power suplie cover for the cables just in case. i added a 3 point pc connector with a switch so i can easely turn it on and off. al those files and components can be found on thingyverse or on google.
I have thought about 3d printing off and on for some time now but the investment has always thrown me off. but this, I think I might have to jump headfirst into this without looking back. Thank you for sharing this with the world Blunty!
I picked up one of these and it works great. As you stated, you spend some time getting things dialed in just right, but then it works wonderfully!
I use to hate you Blunty, im sorry bro...
It was so long aga and i dont even remember why, but this was one of the best reviews ive seen.
I feel like i just got every piece of information i need and honestly.
Last night I was so close buying this and the UGEE HK1560 drawing display.
But I only got the Hk1560, Because I needed to buy a new car battery today. lol
Thank you for showing the off the place product that's something that I haven't been able to find on 3d printing channels, I've found people talking about how to clean your print, but not many show the product off the plate
This is actually pretty good and for this price almost make me want to buy one.
I love you for loving the switch
Wow... crazy. I literally bought this printer a few days before this review. In my opinion the assembly is indeed long and difficult at times, but it's worth it. You learn how your printer works by building it yourself.
Thanks Blunty. I've been on the fence about getting a 3D printer. I've been wanting to get one so bad, but this video finally convinced me to do it. And at that price point, it's a steal. Can't wait till it arrives.
ABS filiment is pretty tempermental. You have to keep it warm, otherwise the lairs will warp as it prints and it will come out looking more like plastic tumble weed. So you'll need to do something like put a box around it or something to keep the heat inside.
PLA is the exact opposite though and requires you keep it fairly cool as it prints, so an open air printer like this will do wonders.
As for filament thats made with corn startch though, that's not PLA. It's PVA which is a dissolvable filament that's great for getting complex prints to come out with out destroying it by removing support structure that's bound to it. It's made using corn starch and can be placed in water to dissolve.
I have never seen you before on youtube but Dayum you KNOW how to talk in a mic and make an amazing product review. instant sub.
I'd been eyeing the A8 for a little while. Thanks to your good review and this really good flash sale plus your coupon code, I could not pass it up.
Just ordered one and can't wait to jump in and start assembling, learning, and experimenting with it!
Oh man, i've been wanting to get into 3D printing for ages. Cheers for the video, Blunty. It's always good to see what else is out there.
Oh man, if I had ones of these I'd also have to go out of my way to learn how to create 3D models for it to print-- but I'd be super happy to do so. All those little useful things are so perfect.
I'm pretty sure there are schematics available online. You don't need to model it yourself.
I bought one of these like 5 months ago and the trick to changing filament at least for me is to heat up the extruder push some filament through manually (About 10 cm of filament) then as quickly as you can pull the filament up. When you are putting the filament back in just cut the end to a point, straiten it then prey that nothing got plugged up when you pulled it out.
Two years back, I bought exactly the same 3d printer, but back then it still cost ~250$. Still works really well! Addressing the filament changing issue: 1. Heat the nozzle up to about 210 °C. 2. Unthread the screw that's holding the spring in a bit. 3. Press down on the screw so that the gear disengages on the filament. 4. While pushing down, push filament *in* a bit, extruding a bit. Now you should be able to pull it out with ease. 5. Straighten the new filament out at the end so that it's straight, not curved. Now press down on the screw again and push the filament through until you see it coming out of the nozzle. 6. Tighten the screw again.
This is the method that has worked best for me after clogging up the entire extruder and having to disassemble entirely for 3 times...

Have you noticed any change from wear and tear with the printer? Has it gotten any worse at printing or is it any more finicky or fiddly?
Basically, how durable is it, and do you think it could last 5-10 years of occasional use in making replacement widgets around the house or random doodads for gaming.
Well for me it's been working well, the only problems I encountered were with moving the printer and one of the wires breaking off of the heating element. I haven't noticed any other signs of wear and tear. But it is a diy printer and everything is easily fixable with every part available on eBay. For that price I would definitely recommend it, but calibrate it well and tighten all the pulleys so that there's no slipping. Just buy one and you'll have a lot of fun with it, I guarantee that!
I've gotta say, you're making this sound _very_ appealing. I'd like to know more about the finishing process of the pieces, and the rough print times for objects, but my main problem is thinking of stuff I'd want to print.
There's a 3d printer at my university, but I'm always swamped with work and can't really use it.
I WANT THE BULBASAUR HOLDER
I just bought one last week, it's on the way!
Thank you for recognising the difference between hard and a bit time consuming lol
this thing looks cool
Some tutorials for this maybe? I'm probably not going to get it due to lack or space however I think many people would enjoy it.
Wow! Really impressed by the detail it's able to print. And for that price!
I want a 3D printer, and I love GearBest, might have to pick up one of these after my trip in a couple months :) Excellent review!
Thanks Blunty, I have been watching your videos for a while now and been looking for a 3d printer myself. Would not have found this if not your channel.
Wow, amazing price. I just ordered it through your GearBest link. Didn't know the site, great deals, and they ship to EU for free!
To change filament easy use the prepare - than preheat pla or asb, once heated, go to prepare move axes - select 10m - z
than you can back the filament out of the extruder with ease.
Wow, I had no idea that these had come down so much already! Thanks for the info.
I have the same Printer and replaced some parts like the linear bearings and remade the frontplate from Aluminium.
After that I really have to say its a nice Printer for a low price.
Thanks for this review, I want to learn how to 3D print and this looks like it will be my way in. Thank you !
ive had this for a couple of months and an auto leveler thats like 15 bucks, a couple of printed tentioners. This thing is a boss.
Wow! That price is fantastic.
What would I print! Well the list of crazy things in my head is huge! I do think the first thing I would do if I had that would be to print things for the printer itself to cover the exposed areas etc.
Great video dude 👍🏽
Hi, i just see your video, i have also a anet A8 and it is effectively quite tricky to poll out the filament, i found a quite nice trick for pla, heat the filament to 220°C-230°C it will be very soft, at this moment you juste have to pull out in a quick movement the filament, since i do it this way my filament si no more stuck in the head the the printer.
I just bought this printer, and have not been disappointed at all. It has it niggles, but its been awesome.
So long as you are prepared to tinker with it you will get a lot more out of this than you bargained for. :D
You made me order one as well...
Now I just need to learn how to adjust it. And which filament I should use. And how to design printable objects. And how to make the printer actually print them. And which software I should use.
Looks like I'll be watching a loooot of youtube tutorials the following few days...
Maybe you could make one as well, Blunty?
changing filament is always crappy even with the regular ones one thing you can try is cutting the filament and running whats left threw first to get rid of part of the problem
Might even pick this up for prototyping, obviously it wouldn't mass produce anything but having a small cheap 3d printer to roughly test a design before putting it into production, or just to make knick nacks would be useful. Now if only i could find a half decent Cnc router for this cheap that would really be something.
Very concise and understandable video. Got one for myself! thanks for the info!
Damn. Blunty really knows how to sell an item to the right demographic. I really respect that (No sarcasm intended)
The official Anet A8 Facebook support group is a handy resource as well.
Very clear and concise video, well done!
Ack, this looks like a slightly nicer version of the kit I piece-mealed together myself about 3 years ago... for, as mentioned at the end of the vid, for a four-digit total cost. (To make matters worse, I've hardly used the thing.)
Live and learn, I suppose...
I like these things but I have no use for them. I just started with Arduino so I'm already learning something new. I will keep watching the reviews just in case I see a need for a printer.
What software do you use to make things on your printer looking to get in to it!
I use Sketchup with an stl exporter extension. Works very well and super easy to learn.
Dude the Lego key caps are wicked! Please do a video and print a whole bunch
I've had mine for going on 2 years now. Its made of magic.
I actually have the same exact printer and I wanted to know how you precisely adjusted your z axis endstop, I had to use a screwdriver as a pry bar to move it ever so slightly and I wanted to know if there is a better way, thanks.
holy shit its so cheap im gonna get t his for making D&D miniatures XD
ive seen some people do miniatures with this they're not the best but its better than spending 20$ on 1
Its cheaper than buying costum miniatures for a normal sized D&D group on the interwebs....
Even custom cardboard "miniatures" are in the same price range if you buy them play ready and dont make them yourself...
idk shit about putting together electronics but I kinda want this, hopefully I don't die. Also that Bulbasaur phone holder is amazing and I neeeeed
Excellent vid! Actually considering getting one now!
This guy sounds like the narrator from the The Stanley Parable. lol
I didn't think you could get a 3D printer that cheap. It looks like a fun thing to play around with, and to print my own Lego 😂
Nice i was thinking about getting this one as well but i think ill get one with auto positioning and all that jazz lol
Awsome review 👍😎
Notice how the guy used tape to prevent slipping. For a 3D printer, this is kind of a steal.
Cool video.
I've been looking at these printers and it does seen like a pretty sweet tool, particularly as a learning experience.
Noob question here.. what is a half decent program to prepare models with?
Reduced to the max! Looks absolutely convincing for the price.
Oh man a free headphone mount *Totally making that now*
Ordered :) Thanks Blunty!
very intersting, thank You so much for the review, Now I feel the need to buy It!!!!
This is what gets my blood flowing. :)
your bulbasaur phone holder is so cute!
I've been printing for a few years. I have a couple custom designed printers made for just a bit more money. Personally I think that the quality is quite horrible, but it seems like it has the ability to be upgraded. Might pick one up for how truly cheap that is.
Changing the filament is just that "A complete pain of fiddly finger pain misery" HAHAHA Gotta remove the fan and "Heat sink" every time....I just completely removed the heat sink and fan all together because the combo does basically nothing...
I have my eye on the Mini Fabrikator V2 3D Printer. You get even more for your money, like a heated bed.
Are the only options for the plug EU and US? Because I live in Australia and I would prefer not to buy an adapter, since I'm already on a tight budget.
Would this be good for printing more organic shapes such as characters scupts? I was just wondering as I would love to get one of these to start printing out some of the scupts I do.
INFINITE LEGO BRICKS!!!
Hey...simple minds....right?
The custom cooling head is definitely worth it!
Nate Your voice is too good OMG
Damn, time to print some custom action figures.
If I had a 3D printer, I would probably just use it to make Zelda figures.
Welp. While I hate the ANET A8, I do applaud you on getting some decent prints outta the little bastard.
Nice Vid ... I allways wanted to buy one (without spending 2000€) ... so I ordered this one :)
I don't know why, but I like you Blunty.
You sound like the narrator from The Stanley Parable
That's a good thing
How much did the hook cost to print? I have no reference for how cost effective 3d printing is
Haven't printed yourself an MSI Dragon yet Blunty?
Maybe one to go with the figurine you got from Secret of Ryzen?
Great review. Thank You
Good onya mate. Nice review!
I'd be cool to get this and print out some miniatures. But I don't really want to fiddle with the wiring and break it.
Your voice is so... Soothing
nice, can you give more examples on what accesories for phones, consoles, pc and desk can you make out of this 3d printer?
im even interested in other things like wire organization, amp and intrumentation, things for artist and tools. this looks promising for the mortal man
The first thing I'm going to print is a cover for that exposed circuit board.
I would print a replacement model clip for my super saiyan song goku model
I'm debating on buying this!
For $160.00, I might actually get into 3D printing. The steep price of entry has always been what kept me away.
I realy like the walll mounted kinda pc!
ALDI have a 3D printer that's going on sale on the 10th I think, for about $300.
Looks interesting.
seems like a bargain. been wanting a 3d printer for ages, but i haven't been able to justify the cost. if its as good as you say it is, then it looks like this is the printer for me. is there no way to print directly from pc? any network adapters? i've heard acetone works well to smooth out the layers, is this the case?
also, if people are worried about the bit that can kill you, take it to an electrician to wire up the 240v side.
interesting! who could have expected such quality for such price?
his voice is so soothing
wow not bad! is 160$ low for a 3D printer?
excellent review, thank you. Now.....where am I going to put the bloody thing !
I fucking love your voice
Nice video, thanks very much for it! :)
Honestly, the final prints look really good. FAR better than I'd expect from a printer of it's price point. Looks like it could actually be useful in a shop for quicker prints where quality isn't exactly the concern. Nice review, and thanks for not finishing those pieces (though, I think a small video detailing how you can get them to look is in order, personally, though that's up to you ofc)
