    >starts as fun character for young readers.
    >becomes a super hero.
    >married the son of satan and committed suicide.
    That's honestly a good summation of the tone in marvel comics over time.
    I think the biggest thing holding Hellcat back is her costume, it's kind of bland IMO but I like her concept when you explained it.

    • @arkinyte13

      Prophoem yes agreed, why don’t they give demonic powers as well?

    • @maosama3695
      @maosama3695 5 років тому +27

      yeah but i think the costume is ok, it's probably because there's another cat like superhero who is more popular and dare i say more sexy than her. it's blackcat from spiderman. she's somewhat an anti-hero helping spiderman or sometimes she's the cause of the trouble. and yeah her costume is a little better thanks to being simple and colours being easy on the eye.
      i think the whole character and superpowers are bland. she's just your average super strong super agile cat-like superhero. they've been done to death. it'll be hard to make this character popular when marvel has tons of easier options. blackcat having a solo-run is better , rather than your standard superhero comic she could branch out to a more like indiana jones type of adventure seeing she's a thief and her father is a legendary thief. a good adventure type of comic would be a great change.

    • @ExeErdna
      @ExeErdna 5 років тому +9

      There's so many "cat" like characters, her being "bland" is what makes her unique. She just didn't want to be left out and kicked ass. I can respect that

    Patsy is hands down my favorite superhero of all time. Her story is all about getting caught in cycles of abuse and how to heal and learn to live beyond the hell ( literally and figuratively ) that she has been through after marrying two abusive men. Part of me is glad her storyhas never taken off because I would be afraid how Marvel would exploit her trauma, erase it, or worse yet, have her get back together with either of the men she fled from. She teaches us how to keep fighting the good fight even after going through the worst of the worse, and her relationship with shulkie is one of my all time favorite dynamics.

    I honestly like Netflix 's take on the character, how it turned the comics published by her mother , into a tv show her mother forced her into.
    Even the developments of season 3 of JJ, id like to see her come back in the future, maybe in her own series.

    • @CaptDingDong
      @CaptDingDong 5 років тому +14

      I think the JJ season 3 developments set things up perfectly for a film or series. Trish meets Damian/Son of Satan in prison, and she dies/kills herself upon seeing his true self. He then resurrects her and turns her into Hellcat, to control her bad impulses. Trish then performs a secret mission for the US that gets her pardoned. This would transition the character from the Netflix show to the Hellcat of the comics, while summarizing her comics history approximately.

      I'm inclined to agree. Patsy/Tricia became so blind by wanting to be the "Hero" that she never thought that the death of her mother would affect her in such a way. Like many heroes she never saw that line between hero and villain until it was too late. You can so easily cross the line. But it gave Tricia a much needed depth.

Like how they revitalized Absorbing Man and Titania in the Black Bolt series, or how they've brought Gwen Stacey to the forefront of their books with Spider-Gwen. Hellcat is downright my favourite character, aside possibly Nightcrawler. And yeah, her powerset is pretty standard, but I think the important part left out isn't her origin or abilities, but her personality. She's a good character because she's fun, she's optimistic and positive, as opposed to all the dark and gritty comic book characters. Of course, that made season 3 of Jessica Jones hard to watch.

There are tons of Archie-like series from that era that I love: Ace Comics' Andy, Harvey's Mazie and Stevie, Toby's Meet Merton. It's not really the culture of the era; I'm all about that. I’ve always been a big fan of Hellcat. I mostly remember her from her time with the Avengers and the Defenders. I never understood the references to her past ‘til now, so thanks for that. I bought the 2008 mini and didn’t understand the Daimon Hellstrum(sp) stuff until this video.Though she was only an aside in this video I never quite understood how and why Tigra were a part of the Hellcat narrative though I always liked both heroines.
    I could go on about the best stories regarding each character from back in the day but I won’t. Great retrospective of a cool, if not overlooked, heroine.

    I absolutely adored the version of this character they created for the Jessica Jones show. She was probably one of the best depictions of the abuse and trauma that many child actors sadly go through. Too bad she had almost nothing in common with the comics version of the character, but Marvel does retcon a lot of comic characters to have more in common with their movie/TV version nowadays and Patsy Walker is one I would not mind them doing it to.

    Hey now, the Inhumans may not be as interesting as the X-Men. But the have had some good stories (black bolt series, death of Inhumans and marvel knights), been part of good stories (infinity, war of kings, hickmans fantastic four and others) and gave us kamala kahn, moon girl and other interesting characters. They shouldn't have been pushed soo hard with multiple titles and throwing in a ton of characters at once, but they still deserved to have thier moment to shine. With that said, I respect your opinion and enjoy your vid. Keep up the good work. 👍

    I enjoyed the entirety of the JJ series. I’d love to see these and other street level hero’s picked up and developed on HULU. I’d love to see them develop an anthology series that had 3-4 show arcs with all of the Netflix hero’s along with new ones like Moonknight. Like for instance: Marvel Knights. Start with Hellcat in a 3 show arc being recruited for dark missions for the govt to win back her freedom but drug out over a few years. Next a 4 show arc with the origin of Moonknight, then a 3 or 4 story arc with Daredevil, then Luke Cage, then Tigra, etc, etc, in the 2nd season, do more of them with an eventual culmination of the Offenders or Defenders again. So many possibilities!
